The commentator on SKY said it was one of the best organised victories the Championship might see this season. We were tremendous-we made a very good side look ordinary and the team to a man were all superb. Just a mention for Foster when he came on, put in a good shift too

Re: Brilliant
Don't know if you noticed but there was a game changing thing that Parker sorted about 30 minutes in, there was a stoppage and he called Flemming over who was getting battered by Souttar, he told him to start slightly deeper so Souttar wouldn't engage and that's how the first goal came. Brilliant from Parker, brilliant from the team.

Re: Brilliant
Excellent that. Really was a well rounded performance. Josh was outstanding.
Re: Brilliant
Could be wrong but it also looked like he had given Brownhill a role where he was drifting out the right regularly and Roberts would then drop more central.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2024 5:06 pmDon't know if you noticed but there was a game changing thing that Parker sorted about 30 minutes in, there was a stoppage and he called Flemming over who was getting battered by Souttar, he told him to start slightly deeper so Souttar wouldn't engage and that's how the first goal came. Possibly what led to Brownhill arriving unmarked on the back post.

Re: Brilliant
Deliberately left it open…

But seeing as you asked - Brownhill seemed to be everywhere.

Was certainly a comfortable performance. Didn’t once feel under threat by them at any point despite them having a fair bit of possession.
The midfield is much better when the 2 holders are Laurent and Cullen. The key is Laurent for me, he can carry and hold the ball so well allowing others to run ahead of him and occupy opposition players. Hannibal on also on the wing adds a lot of extra defensive cover and he has a good first touch.

Re: Brilliant
That same starting line-up for the last two games has seemed to bring out the best in the lads. We looked balanced, dangerous, and solid. Players seem happy with it too. Superb away performance today.

Re: Brilliant
Who would have thought have our best team would be without Koleosho and Foster (as starters) at the beginning of the season.

Re: Brilliant
I wonder how many top hats on here don't recognise the similarities between the early Dyche days and the early Parker days.

Great options to have though, and as has been said, Ramsey and Benson to potentially be back come February.criminalclaret wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2024 7:05 pmWho would have thought have our best team would be without Koleosho and Foster (as starters) at the beginning of the season.

Re: Brilliant
Exactly my thoughts for a few games now, unbelievable similarities in dyche and Parker, nothing fancy yet effective, yes a sizeable blip with Derby but been very apparent from the stoke game.THEWELLERNUT70 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2024 7:09 pmI wonder how many top hats on here don't recognise the similarities between the early Dyche days and the early Parker days.

Re: Brilliant
We dominated the key stats too. They had more overall possession but in terms of passes I the final third we were well on top - also with attempts on target and key passes - defensively we were dominant as you would expect
Re: Brilliant
Looking at the player ratings thread there were plenty who didn't particularly rate Flemming's performance and yet he was instrumental in both goals. His ball out to Humphreys gave him the chance to cross and his run into the box drew the defenders which left the space for Brownhill. He may not be a number 9 but I think there's an excellent player in there who is capable of far more than we've seen from him so far.
Very impressed how we managed to handle the set pieces against some massive players and how we have suddenly started to vary our own set pieces which have been ineffective all season.
After a period of disappointing draws this team is exceeding my expectations again and again in the big games. Long may it continue.

Re: Brilliant
I didn't think Flemming was great against Watford, but was much better yesterday. Good at holding the ball up and moving forward. He still tends to drop deep rather than playing on the shoulder of the defender, but that's understandable I suppose. Interesting to see how he plays alongside Foster.dibraidio wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 11:12 amLooking at the player ratings thread there were plenty who didn't particularly rate Flemming's performance and yet he was instrumental in both goals. Re: Brilliant
The difference is that we are playing narrower and really dominating the midfield, which allows Brownhill and others to arrive late into the box. Humphries is providing width on the left and the midfield three in front of the double pivot are much more fluid than having two established wingers, which gives teams more problems.
The one fly in the ointment is whether this works against teams that park the bus. Norwich, Watford and Sheff Utd all tried to compete and were simply outclassed but we still haven't really convinced in a game where teams just turn up to disrupt.
I think that is SPs final challenge everything else has slowly improved over the course of the season.

Re: Brilliant
Thought Wilder ( who I don’t dislike) showed his tactical naivety when he said there was nothing in the game. Other than the odd set piece they never really troubled us at all and certainly never looked like scoring. Impressed by SP tactics and his ability to change as required. Parker 1 Wilder 0
Re: Brilliant
It was like the sheff utd of 2 years ago, playing for set pieces. I thought they were better than that.

Don't underestimate Scott Parker's green windcheater!
We would be struggling without it.

Re: Brilliant
I seem to remember that when the team was announced against Watford, there were many negative comments on the match thread with some posters even labelling Parker as clueless. I bet he knows more about football than most on here.....
