The 1970's and 80's were considered to be the worst of the Hooligan era as far as football fans in England were concerned. It was kicking off at most domestic venues and we exported it into the European stage with England games and European cup clashes.

Thatcher and her consort of over privileged bafoons decided to try to end football by way of membership schemes, fences, and banning orders in the hope of getting our national game gone.

Despite this, football fought back, although largely sanitised in the form of the new Premier League. The modern game was a different animal to what had been seen before.

Currently, there is this perception by the media and football authorities that football is now a family friendly form of entertainment.

Is it ?

In the last few years there has been a huge increase in football violence in the UK. The biggest clubs have 'main lads' who organise meet ups between rival supporters and tend to be in their 30s and 40's/ Quite a number are mates with each other.

Social media and phones make no problem in avoiding the Police and arranging a 'tear up' with opposing like minded individuals.

Now.there's emerging a new breed of football hooligan. Mostly, aged between 14 and 20 they are there to make an impact in the Social Media world.

Fighting takes place outside football grounds and is usually pre-arranged between both sides. The encounter has to be based on similar numbers. If one side boasts 50 lads up for the scrap and the other only 10 then it doesn't usually take place.

Interestingly, a lot of participants will take a good hiding in order to post pictures of their injuries online.

There are feeder hooligans from lower league teams to the top Premier League outfits. One of the biggest battles is between Bury and York City.

One lad stated online that it cost £40.00 for a theme park ticket but that it was free to get involved in a pub carpark brawl and was 10x more exciting.

That's the image that presents itself inside most grounds. How many teenagers can afford to shell out over £30 to watch a game?

Their entertainment (& violence) is now not only centered around the lower leagues but at local division games.

There was serious disorder at Padiham FC on two occasions last season where the home club was hosting local league finals. It was reported that in one Final players attacked spectators whilst in another fighting continued for in the car park for over an hour after the final whistle.

I have a mate who’s a Villa fan and travels to the European games, on his last trip he was sat next to a guy on the train who was busy organising a gang advising which pub they should descend on in order to meet the opposition, and was proud to display his socials where he played a major part in creating mayhem.

He’d also spent time in the nick, he didn’t have a ticket to the game.

The major badges of honour still remain:

Turning up outnumbered at your local rivals and 'having a proper go'.

Infiltrating the home end with a small, but select, group of extremely violent comrades intent on causing major damage to their top boys.

Posting images of your injuries on Social Media. The most 'likes' tend to include the loss of eyeballs, open wound fractures and full renal collapses.

Fighting with your own mates on the train home.

To me there was nothing funnier when French and Russian Hooligans got stuck into the English mob in Marseille. Some of them got proper hidings and some of them even literally got chucked into the sea.

They got shown up exactly for what they are and learnt that lobbing coins, giving verbals and paggering some poor lad 5 to 1 over here don't make a hard man.

Hooliganism here is on its arse. Just full of stupid kids that want to look cool on insta and a load of sex starved saggy middle aged men that are are one stray punch away from a coronary. Most footage I see nowadays is just people 'pogoing' around, it's pathetic.

I've had a number of appointments recently with medical personnel who have suggested that I have temporary brain relapse.

Following this I have been seen by a consultant who confirmed the diagnosis and suggested that the condition started about 1979.

Over 5,800 at Bury v Ramsbottom United yesterday, saw one police van however no coppers. Fans were sort of segregated in the main stand but not on the concourse. The only trouble was the pies sold out during half time.

Interesting that Bury and York get mentioned early on in the post. Back in the early 90s they met in the playoffs and a York lad was badly injured.

If loonigans just want to arrange a fight party, then that's up to them. It has nothing to do with football. They could call themselves the Burnley Ballerinas, for all it matters. No one cares.

Hooliganism of the past was scary and involved gangs attacking isolated away fans as well as group punch ups. Never show your colours or open your mouth was good advice. Arrive at a ground and get treated like **** is also a thing of the past.

Our Derby is probably the safest to now attend at any time since the 60's..the Police know who the small band of Bellend's are on both sides.

Totally off topic, have you returned to Gigg Lane? Went for the first time in about 10 years on Boxing Day , last time was for a Kenyon Cup final. Enjoyed going back and bumped into a few old friends in town after. It was good to see bars were busy post match. The town needs its football club.
