Plenty for me to consider. I'd have to choose 1963 and a 6-1 win against Manchester United, 1973 and a fabulous 2-1 win v Liverpool and a 1-2 away win at Blackpool in 1972
Disappointments have been plenty. A 2-3 home defeat to Blackburn in 1977 and a 4-2 loss at Bury in 1999. What are your memories of Boxing Day fixtures?

Dragged my wife to be to her first Burnley game. Sat next to a classic Burnley family. Will never forget the Mother telling her kids to stop f***ing swearing !!! We left early and even missed our goals. Weather was vile. Amazed that she still married me !

We just pulled up outside Millmoor when that game was called off. Did we also have a game away at Blackpool called off? Perhaps mid 90’s?

I always feel like we got beat on Boxing Day, too. The 4-2 at Bury as already mentioned, a 1-0 defeat at Barnsley under Stan, and a defeat at Crewe with Branch and Gnohere at CB?

Not sure where you've dug that one up from. The only 3-3 I'm aware of was in August 2022 and I don't think we have played them on Boxing Day since 1972.

Two days later, Busby brought Anderson and Best in and they ran us ragged and won 5-1, but we won 7-6 on aggregate.

There was a 2-2 draw on the Turf but that was May 1993, I think it might be that one.

We managed to get seats so stayed dry, and then after the game we went down the wrong street and couldn't find the car. By the time we found it, we were also drenched.

More postponed games at Derby and Oldham. We were on the way to Chesterfield one year when that was postponed but not 100% sure that was boxing day.

Getting soaked on the Bee Hole End v Port Vale and the away end at York.

Barnsley away under Brian Laws. ‘Powder keg’ sums up that away end. And we did actually win that one, which delayed the inevitable a few days. Absolutely freezing too.

The one I always remember was the abandoned Port Vale home game in the 90s. I think McMinn scored for us, but we were losing 2-1 when the ref called it off due to the torrential rain.

My dad and I were huddled in a shop doorway after the game waiting for our lift home. As the game had been abandoned and it pre-dated mobile phones, we had a long wait for my mum who was oblivious to the early finish.

Blackpool away Boxing Day 1970 was my first away match and the first time I ever ran onto a pitch.
I jumped over the wall & onto the pitch as the players were coming off at half-time to get Ralph Coates' autograph, the only one of the main players I hadn't gotten up until then.
My dad wasn't very pleased.

We beat Wolves, a rarity, 2-1. After going two up fairly early through a fine Gareth Taylor header and a slightly deflected piledriver by Dean West I was in dreamland. Wolves pulled one back at around the 80th minute mark (I'm not entirely sure) and I feared they'd get a second.

But we held on.

I was in a mini bus with about 15 others after an extremely early start, heading for Chesterfield on boxing day when it was (unsurprisingly given the torrential rain) called off. Still didn't get home until around 1 in the morning after being refused entry to Chesterfield by the police, but still visiting Buxton, Stockport and Manchester centre. Who needs footy!?

My first ever away game was the horror show at York in 84. Made entertaining by the pitch invasion at HT by dozens of Clarets in fancy dress. Also remember hearing the Chesterfield game was called off as we were on the M62, early 90's. Bradford at home in 85, we went in the BLS for a treat and were sat near the directors box, remember the Bradford officials celebrating jubilantly.

Everyone in fancy dress. Vampires, waiters, the lot. I remember someone dressed as a waiter clattering a copper over the head with his tray. What a performance on the pitch to lose 4-0.

They certainly did bring the most i have seen from them at the Turf that Xmas and even in town before the game they were in our pubs but no trouble until near the ground behind and in the bee hole end as i lived near Park View..

I can't remember specific matches, but I can remember getting a lift to Padiham and then walking from there to the ground as there was no public transport on Boxing Day. I remember the Rotherham that was postponed just as we arrived but I couldn't have told you it was Boxing Day.

I can tick a few of the games mentioned above.

The 1973 2-1 victory over Liverpool was probably one of my favourite ever games. Fletch’s early header and a later Keegan penalty slammed into the advertising boards at Beehole End.

I really felt we were in the big time after that game.

Remember New Year's Day 2005 when the game was abandoned due to rain of "Biblical" proportions. Called off after 20 minuites and I think we were 2 goals up! Went to the pub. . .

The following year at a Christmas Eve party we decided on the spur of the moment to go to Stanley on Boxing Day for a derby game, I forget who against. Got to the ground and found it was frozen off. Went to the pub instead . . .

Liverpool equalised and we went straight up the other end and scored the winner. It wasn't a last minute goal at all and both Ray Hankin and Billy Ingham were involved with, I think, Hankin just touching the ball over the line.
That was the last league game we won that season until the middle of the following March when we beat Everton 3-1 at Turf Moor with 3 goals inside 4 minutes in the second half. Had been 0-1 down and Everton missed a penalty too. We did have a decent cup run though.

I honestly don't remember but probable. They were a very experienced side and we hardly got a sniff. Me and a couple of mates were only 14 and kept being given a nip from various hip flasks from the older Liverpool fans

That's funny. A very big following [for them] but all contained in the away side of the Longside. None anywhere else. I was there.

I've seen that before too. Gates closed by 2pm in some parts of the ground already filled with their massive following. I was on the Longside as usual, season ticket holder and got on as easily as any other game that season. Bit like Blackpool fans claim in the 90's that they had fans all over the ground for another game they lost.

Another Boxing Day memory, jogged by a on this day facebook post, beating Carlisle 2-1. Was only 17 and looked old enough to get served, me and my mate went round a few pubs in Burnley and the word was that Carlisle were all over town causing trouble.
