COVENTRY'S ATTENDANCES

Post by Quicknick » Fri Dec 27, 2024 5:02 am

They have been amazingly high this season. Genuine figures or season ticket holders who bought on the strength of last season when they hadn't before and don't attend all the games? Having suggested that, they get hellish big away support. Just about a full away end at Portsmouth just before Christmas.

They started to rebuild their club after getting kicked out of their ground. I think the city rallied.
Their away support grew massively as some refused to go to Brum.

If they had stayed at Highfield Rd,now the stadium would not be big enough, but on the down side, the Ricoh Arena,is horrible to get to,a soulles atmosphere, just not the same, give me Turf Moor any time, just stay were your History and feelings are, when you move, lost forever,UTC.

I've no time for their fans crowing about it. In the last ten seasons they've had 5 seasons under 10k on average and just as coincidentally as they've had an uptick in form and the fair weather's have come crawling back, they think they're a shining example of how you should follow your club.

They sing “ in our Coventry homes “
Dunno if they’ve always sang that ? but pretty sure they haven’t . They’ve a somewhat plastic sheen to them sprinkled with a touch of delusion , 15th in the champ tells its own story .

I'd hate to have to go to a ground like the Ricoh every home game.

Back in the day, Coventry were a decent club at Highfield road, with a handy following.

Certainly not plastics.

They formed a really odd obsession with us because we were after Gyokeres and later O'Hare. Another single team city club who think they have a divine right to be above us.

Not interested. They were terrible at the Turf also.

It should be ‘home’ (no S on the end, the same for ‘Lancashire home’). It’s originally a Liverpool song by Pete McGovern (?) and originally sung by Liverpool fans about having 2 cathedrals. Coventry nicked the song and have sung it for decades I believe, but these songs go out of fashion and come back.

We nicked it from Liverpool too, but after Coventry as we first sang it at Charlton in 2014 - that’s the first time I heard it anyway. The same game ‘Aye Aye Ashley, Ashley Barnes’ made its debut.

Coventry have two cathedrals (if you count the bombed out one) so they probably have a reason to sing their own version of the original song.

I went to watch Huddersfield on Boxing Day with the father in law and there was 21.5k there which looked about right. Stockport sold out their allocation but were very quiet after they conceded…….in the first minute

I also went to watch Huddersfield vs Wigan and the attendance was given as 17k. Absolutely no more than 12k on. Being a rugby town, Wigan only brought less than a couple of hundred. Obviously counting season ticket holders who didn’t attend. I think a lot of club do it to inflate their support

I went to Highfield road in the cup match under Stan. Was a cracking ground with great atmosphere. It’s a shame they couldn’t redevelop/extend that, although it was hemmed in by terrace housing. The Richoh is an awful stadium
