Strange you should say that, last week I had two birds in my garden that I've never seen before - a Bullfinch and a Goldcrest.
Not at the same time.

Winter visitor to the visitor centre at Clough Head Centre on the Grane road above Haslingden.
Paul Jackman is creating a cracking photography hide there, for people interested in bird photography. The picture is my wife’s not mine.

Not common around the Buxton area, though do recall them as a kid.Taffy on the wing wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 2:19 amAre these common now?........i used to dream of seeing one when i was a kid.
Someone released a pair about 20 years back nearby us. Think I used to watch one of their offspring in the fields behind the garden.
As Alp says, they cover a big area. The sort of kept to a timescale so, you'd always a chance of seeing it.
Lived a brief time ( 2009) in Norfolk. Saw them every day there.
As with most of our wildlife, loss of habitat/pollution takes a toll.
Buzzards ( at a cost to kestrals ) seem to have had a population explosion.

A lot more about than a few years back, at certain times of year we're tripping over them, that will do me nicely as I just adore owls.Taffy on the wing wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 2:19 amAre these common now?........i used to dream of seeing one when i was a kid.

Re: Winter pictures 2024
I'm assuming that the promenades around Blackpool would be in a serious state had the sea defences not been put in place.
There was a similar construction at Southport but they seemed to ignore the fact that the sea never got anywhere near the place.
However, Southport had an annual airshow which attracted hundreds of thousands of spectators who could sit on the terraces as all sorts of aircraft passed close by.

It's been a bit misty recently. The predicted snow might give an opportunity to take some stunning shots before you have to be rescued by the Emergency Services.
An opportunity to get some pics from the Mountain Rescue helicopter should not be mid.

Re: Winter pictures 2024
Yes you would think so. I haven't been that way for a few years prior to my Christmas visit but the defences are very high now. Can't envisage the sea breaching them under normal conditionsDressinggown wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2024 10:47 pmI'm assuming that the promenades around Blackpool would be in a serious state had the sea defences not been put in place.
