About time that Hladky got a game. Did brilliantly for them in their promotion-clinching campaign last season.

Yes, the excellent goalkeeper that’s now sitting on our bench. That said, he’ll hopefully play at Reading.

O'Shea at right back. Never a centre-half in my book :D
We had their pants down selling them these two liabilities.

Muric was a massive part of how we were promoted so impressively. There's no ifs, buts or maybe about that.

He wasn't great in the Premier League, and that's being kind, but who in a Burnley shirt was?

When Burnley were promoted to the PL last we bought a new keeper and started him. Our fans spent most of the season clamouring for the keeper from the season before because he got us promoted and deserved it.

Hladky got Ipswich promoted, they bought a new keeper... The only difference being they got rid of him.

Shame, I'm a huge fan but it seems as though he can't overcome his erratic tendencies.

He has all the talent in the world, but unfortunately he can also put in a 9/10 one week and a 4/10 the week after - I thought with more experience he might be able to iron that out of his game, but it seems like it's a permanent characteristic.

He’s not a good keeper at all. At no point in his time at Burnley was he excellent like you suggest. Even in the promotion season Peacock Farrell conceded less goals per game and had a better clean sheet per game stats.

Muric is good at passing and that’s it. He’s very very limited

He was superb in that Chelsea game at Stamford Bridge and did give the team a lift when he came into the side last season.

If you read the Ipswich forums there are familiar themes - he's a good shot stopper but a liability. I remember him being very poor on crosses (a criticism made of him in the lead up to a few games for us in our promotion season).

I wonder at what point the tactics will come full circle and the whole sweeper keeper will be dropped as teams become too good at the higher press.

He’s also had three absolute howlers in about 10 games.

Muric is up there as one of the worst the league has seen in my opinion.

The way we played in the promotion season Muric was the catalyst for many of our attacks and by the time it got to Christmas every team had stopped attacking us as they were too busy defending so we didn’t need a good shot stopper.

Ok this is my last comment on this thread as it is becoming boring. The way I see it that when we won the league (the one we are in now) we won it at a canter and one of the reasons was that Muric was so good with his distribution it was like playing with 12 men at times. Think we scored over ten goals where the move started from the goalie. I can't really remember any handling or major cock ups in that season other than the goal we gave away at home to Blackpool.

When he got brought back in last year, of course he did two major screw ups, but he was also man of the match in many others. In fact his overall rating over that period was one of the best in the league.

I don't really care anymore as he is no longer our keeper, but this narrative that he was some kind of crap clown keeper when playing for us, is disingenuous at best.

He’s great if you’re dominating possession in every single game and playing out from the back, there’s not many better. If you’re mostly under the cosh and he needs to make lots of quick decisions under huge pressure then he’s an absolute liability.

For all we debated it on here previously, by the end of this season, who do you think will have the higher value, Trafford or Muric? It’ll be like comparing ‘The Beast’ to Nick Pope before long. Cult figures are great fun but that’s it.

How about this.

Muric had a decent season in the championship playing a style that suited his confidence, but also in a team which was a lot stronger than the rest of the league and so there wasn’t a huge amount of pressure.

We bought in an absolutely full of potential, and actually already better than Muric goalkeeper, Trafford.

Kompany didn’t manage his introduction to top flight football and he played in a team playing a style that didn’t suit the fact he was a bit green. The team was weaker than the vast majority of the league and Trafford was under pressure a lot. Ultimately fans got on his back which compounded the problem.

Muric came in and was lauded as an amazing keeper. He made a few goood saves but also threw in a few complete howlers which undoubtedly cost us points. The upshot is, he’s a decent enough keeper, who’s probably a bit over confident.

For me he’s held in high regard for the fact he was part of a really successful season. I don’t really doubt he’d have lost that ‘aura’ if he’d have been number one in the 23-24 season.

I still think Trafford is in the top three of goalkeepers we’ve had since my time as a claret in 1990. Really do think he has the potential to be the best ahead of Pope and Heaton. For the minute maybe Pope edges it. Muric isn’t close to them three imo.

I do. Never saw him make those same mistakes as Muric. Killed any chance we had of staying up with two huge mistakes over the course of 2 games. He’s continued making mistakes for Ipswich too.

Trafford can't catch a ball under severe pressure. Pope did that without any fuss time and again.

Trafford can't catch a ball under severe pressure. Pope did that without any fuss time and again.
At Trafford’s age Pope was playing on loan at York City in League Two…

Muric is a very good keeper, but I'm not at all sure he's PL standard and Ipswich definitely should have looked elsewhere in the summer (or stuck with what they had!)! Ironically, I didn't think either of our main keepers was PL standard last season, but that was largely irrelevant because neither was most of the team (or manager).
O'Shea is also a very good player who probably has the makings of a decent PL defender and we all saw he came on leaps and bounds in a struggling team last season. However, I'm not sure joining what was almost certain to be another confidence sapping and ultimately doomed struggle was his best move at his age and he'd have been better off playing and improving with us in the Championship for now.

You mention the points he cost us but not the points he gained us through super brilliant saves which was something we didn't see from Trafford.
The manager relegated us not the team or keepers.
We won 2 games with Muric in goal. Brentford home, when Brentford gave us a penalty and had a man sent off after 4 minutes; and Sheffield United away, who were losing by 3+ to everyone at the time. Neither victory was because of the change of keeper. At best, he won us the odd point from a draw; but he certainly cost us 2 against Brighton and more than likely cost us 1 at Everton. He was no significant improvement, in terms of points won, on Trafford.

And we conceded against Sheff Utd. Beat them by more with a clean sheet when Traff played.

I was very pro muric last season because I didn’t feel like goalkeeper was a position that needed changing. If you spend 15m on a new keeper then you we had to let Muric leave because it was always going to cause a divide between fans.

The style of play last season would have suited Muric much more than Trafford. Kompany set both keepers up to fail, by starting Trafford to begin with and then by bringing Muric in when he did. People can’t say the games we won weren’t to do with Muric, because against Brentford and sheff united he made some crucial saves. Thats like saying the saves Trafford made away at Brighton didn’t help towards a point.

If we were to go up under Parker this season I would be much more confident in Trafford as a keeper then muric due to the style we are playing

Imagine thinking football works like that.
