Ashley Barnes
Re: Ashley Barnes
We have one 35 year old striker in the squad. Do we need another ?
Re: Ashley Barnes
If it meant the other 35 year old not playing again then absolutely

Re: Ashley Barnes
Loan him in for Saturday
I can’t see it but I found the somewhat lengthy discussion between him and Parker after the Norwich game rather odd. They have no history as such do they?

For a moment there I was getting excited thinking we’re getting Zaouray back, what a signing he was.

Makes you think what great value we got from Barnes-£350,000 was the supposed feefidelcastro wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 5:32 pmNo. A younger striker who can score rather than just wind up the opposition is what we need.
It'll cost a few quid though!

For half a season he was very good, but after that he went down hill and although some will say he wasn't given much of a chance in the PL, I never thought he was up to that standard.

Re: Ashley Barnes
Only just seen the press conference from today where Parker is (strangely? I’ve not even seen a link before this?) asked directly about Barnes returning to Burnley. Parker says he can’t speak about players until they’re in and then smiles….
Re: Ashley Barnes
Family was/are settled up here, good mates with Jack Cork, wouldn't surprise me if we got him until the end of the season to help with the younger players all whilst coaching alongside Cork or moving in to that role in the summer.
Wouldn't be a signing of technical quality but experience wise and what he'd maybe offer the squad could be invaluable and what a player to have in the backrooms team moving forward if that was the case

Exactly it's a random question with an answer that isn't one of putting it to bed by denying it or looking confused. These rumours are supposedly flying around but that question was the first time I'd ever heard it mentioned then Parkers answer seems very telling to me.jedi_master wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 5:44 pmOnly just seen the press conference from today where Parker is (strangely? Coming back on the Coaching staff could be a good shout.
Re: Ashley Barnes
What is the near obsession with former players? Is it just a Burnley fan thing?
Barnes was brilliant for us and played the game in a way a supporter can easily latch on to. He'll always be remembered for that game against that lot. And was no doubt a good influence in Kompany's Championship season.
But he should've left us about a season earlier than he did, if our recruitment had been better.

Barnes scored plenty of cracking goals in the Premier league & on a team that was usually struggling to stay up.

You’d imagine Barnes will be back at the club at the end of the season in a coaching capacity unless he fancies going to Huddersfield to play for Michael duff.
Duff was sat with Chris Casper on Saturday, wondering if anyone could be going on loan to Huddersfield

Re: Ashley Barnes
As mentioned earlier, if him being here in a playing capacity means Jay gets nowhere near the pitch, then it’s a good thing because playing Jay up top is like starting with ten men.
Jays been a very good player, but it’s three seasons too far I’m afraid. Confirmed for me when the Salford lads put him in their pocket…

Re: Ashley Barnes
Exactly. Why? Where have these links come from (do they even exist?)
Seen people on this thread suggest it would be good for Barnes to come back to the club as a coach. Why? Is he a good coach? Is he even qualified? Does he want to be a coach? It's only suggested because he's a former player.

Actually he, and Jack Cork, started their badges while here.

He was doing his coaching badges alongside Jack cork whilst still at the club so that suggest he wants to be a coach. You are getting yourself in a pickle or something really not that deepPickles wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 7:57 pmExactly. Why? Where have these links come from (do they even exist?)

Re: Ashley Barnes
We could do with someone who could teach our lads how to shoot.
i think he has the right personality to get the best out of young players. Cork is with the U21s as far as i know, a good place to start, I think.

Re: Ashley Barnes
Always had a good shot on him did Barnes. Had a knack of hitting it first time or early. Don't think he's what we need right now on the pitch, would love us to sign a more dynamic striker for the next two, three, four years instead. (If Foster doesn't come good, I'm still of the opinion there's a player there!)boatshed bill wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 8:05 pmWe could do with someone who could teach our lads how to shoot.

Enthusiasm about Barnes re-signing is because of nostalgia, which is absolutely fair enough.

Re: Ashley Barnes
I think he'd be an excellent addition to the coaching staff teaching the academy how much it means and what it means to play for and be a BFC player. He loves the clubs his passion brings the best of our other players, he wouldn't be brilliant player wise now but training amongst the group and coming on when we need someone to ruffle a few feathers he'd be a good option and it'd mean something to him.Pickles wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 7:57 pmExactly. He'd have been an excellent second half sub against Stoke for example when we needed a push.
Most academy coaches are ex players from said clubs.
