“SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
To compound the embarrassment, the announcer said to the 'winner' that he had some 'good news and bad news'. The good news was that he had almost won the money but the bad news was that he hadn't, or words to that effect!
His announcements get more and more ridiculous by the week and make the club appear amateurish.

Perfect example this of class or a lack of it in an organisation.
If there has been a balls up (no pun intended) with an ambiguous set of rules or matting then clearly the supporter should be given the jackpot for an outstanding kick, then reprint the matting afterwards or reword the rules.
Customers matter. When they start to feel they don’t, problems start.

Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
Not true. Look at World Championship bowls - unless the result is too close to call by eye, they don't bother measuring everything. It's certain that if one ball lands on the red blob in the middle while the others aren't even in the centre circle, there is no need to measure to comply with the rules to judge who is closer.daveisaclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2025 10:31 pmOutrageous that they didn't give him the win. You can't even tell from where we sit that there is a white circle within the red.
However (and someone may have mentioned this) it seems pretty likely to me that measuring all four balls is necessary to comply with the rules regarding holding competitions for cash prizes. Yes it's obvious but if they could be run by eyeball there's no way to demonstrate it's been done fairly.

Total embarrassment
The sponsors must be really unhappy

Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
I'll be honest, I don't even know who the sponsors are - it has been such a terrible 5hit show of a competition that I've never actually focussed on anything other than the sheer ineptitude of the people running it, rather than who might be sponsoring it?!
If anyone thought Pace and his cronies gave a flying one about the fans, then this has to surely be the final nail in the coffin. The fella laughing was a complete and utter disgrace and he's meant to be 'part of the Burnley family?' If they wanted to indirectly prove to the average fan that we do not matter one jot to them, then they've 'hit it out of the ball park', to coin a phrase from Pace's Motherland.

Ah, I thought that you thought the man with the microphone is Russell Ball.Turfmoorclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 8:59 amNo I don’t he was right in front of me laughing he is there every half time. The announcer quickly realised he needed to keep a straight face when he walked in front of the Jimmy Mc. Russell went to the left. So yes I know who he is.
I didn't realise from my vantage point that Russell Ball is on the pitch.
Apologies.
Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
The guy has just tweeted that the club have awarded him the money, but have said the ball does need to be on the white spot. Sounds like they are trying to reclaim the moral high ground.

If they haven't communicated the rules effectively, and have implemented an ambiguous playing surface, then they deserve a round of applause for correcting their own error
Give them some credit for doing the right thing, even if the events leading up to it were rather Poundshop

Wonder if they've given him £500 or the roll over amount

Glad the club have done this but totally agree that it’s reclaiming the moral high ground. They absolutely should have said that they’d messed up.

My mum used to say " it says Wrigleys Spearmint on the side of double decker buses, but that doesn't mean they sell it".
That has got absolutely nothing at all to do with "Spot on", but seems quite apt in the circumstances.

I feel sorry for all the contestants who thought they had to aim for the tiny white target when they simply could have placed the ball inside the big red one.

I wouldn’t. Most of them don’t even get it on the mat.
Though they probably also thought the red circle that says win win win win was the target.

Because it’s almost like an estate agent who was given a job because of a deal falling through isn’t qualified to have any sort of involvement in the running of a football club. He is a disgrace, pains me that he’s involved in the club at all.

There's more to it than that...deanothedino wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 8:14 pmBecause it’s almost like an estate agent who was given a job because of a deal falling through isn’t qualified to have any sort of involvement in the running of a football club. I think you would win your case, in a law court!Rosehill Claret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2025 7:41 pmTo confuse matters though, the tarpaulin seems to contradict the written rules:
If only the sixpence pimple in the middle wins, then that is the equivalent of that old newspaper thing, 'Spot the Ball'.
That circle has win all around it, as you state.
So, either 2 prizes or one prize fits all
As only one prize announced, that is a winner.

Re: Half Time Centre Spot Challenge
There was actually a second prize, as announced, a hospitality package which the contestant won.IanMcL wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 8:35 pmI think you would win your case, in a law court!

Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
That's a lose, lose!
Who does their PR???
"You didn't actually win, however, there was a bit of an uproar and we look stupid, so we're paying you, to quieten the crowd. Really, you should have known that on page 79 section 4Iiii it states that all of the football has to land on top of the pointy, little, mound, placed under the white blob, to even be considered for a positive outcome. Decision will be taken, at a scheduled board meeting, following the claim."

Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
i'll say it again, it matters not financially if they gave him the money or not as they allocate £500 per game and it rolls over,
but its the bad PR that came with the decision, the booing was from all 4 sides of the ground which wasnt a good look for the club , i suspect thats why they have paid him out ,
and i suspect they will do a presentation at the next home game just to get the fans back on side. but who knows with this lot !!!

It's remarkable he left the warmth of APs backside for so long![]()

What a cop-out.
They obviously thought they were never going to have to pay out, so now they’ve been forced to capitulate the plug has been pulled.

Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
I bet they’re waiting on an order for a new piece of sheeting now that they’ve done the most basic of checks and realised that their product was wrong and compounded by very poor communication. You see, this is the problem for me: basic errors across the board that simply should be EASILY avoided. It all feels unbelievably slapdash, as though the people responsible don’t have a clue how to run things.

Made its return today with “tweak” to the rules that the red spot in now the target
But why were the competitors introductions made down the alongside touchline?
It took up time for them to make their way to the balls to take their kicks and return, that the announcer had to interrupt telling us who the winner was to WELCOME BACK TO THE FIELD, BURNLEY
