Commentary v Rovers

I watched on TV and the coverage picked up local radio station commentators.

In previous weeks I’ve been impressed by local radio commentary in Norwich and Middlesbrough who despite their local links provided excellent commentary and no overt bias to their own team.

Today however “I think” it was two of Radio Lancashire’s own finest commentators. First half they were fine but after Flemming’s goal things changed and it was us (Rovers) against them (Burnley). They were playing hell about any decisions that went the Burnley way and were virtually spewing bile by the final whistle. Not good to hear really when Burnley is in their catchment area.

I was wondering if anybody listened to Radio Lancashire commentary. The link I watched had the RL commentary team fully behind Rovers?

Perhaps they had a ‘Burnley’ oriented commentator for those listening on the other side of Accrington?

Don’t listen to the commentary but wasn’t it Glen Little & Mark Atkins?

Just arrived in Salisbury. Sutton on 606 said he had flu into the New Year but his wife made him get up and do jobs!

It was and still is, if not in name, Radio Blackburn.

I haven't listened to that station since the mid to late 90's when they did the after match phone ins.

Old Jack Holden was the Rovers commentator before Walker came in, and he didn't seem to like us at all.

They were constantly accused of bias by Burnley fans, not just against Rovers but also when we played PNE and Blackpool.

I suppose it makes sense as their nearest and dearest, even though we were way below them at the time.

I listened to BBC Radio Lancashire coverage from pre-kick off to post-match analysis. The Rovers pundit was Mark Atkins with Clarets favourite Glen Little putting over the views from a Burnley persuasion. Match commentator was Dan Jewell and hosting the broadcast was Andy Bayes.

I have regularly been critical of Radio Lancashire’s football coverage over many years, but not today. I thought they got the balance spot on today. Dan Jewell was completely objective in describing what was, a disappointing spectacle (result aside). Andy Bayes was equally professional in giving each ex-pro broadly equal opportunity to articulate their respective observations. No complaints from me today. It was certainly a better option than enduring Andy Hinchcliffe on Sky’s commentary.

There were two people on the commentary I picked up. One was a presenter and the other a summariser / pundit. They didn’t at any stage say they were Radio Lancashire so not sure who I listened to then? Certainly no Glen Little or any Burnley representation.
