Re: Ewood Experience
My first Ewood experience was in 1966 on New Year's Day. We won 2-0, Blackburn going down that season, the Clarets finishing third. My next visit was in February 1971 for a friendly on the day of the FA Cup 4th round, as we had been both knocked out. We lost 2-0 but took the Darwen End over, then Blackburn's home end.
Re: Ewood Experience
Only been to Ewood once and it wasn't by choice. New years day 1988 should have been going to Carlisle away, but for reasons I can't remember (car problems or road closures maybe) we had to turn round and ended up going to watch Blackburn v Sheff Utd. Can't remember anything about the game but it was the season Steve Archibald was there.

Re: Ewood Experience
My first game there was in October 1959( title winning season) and we lost 3-2. Sat in the seats of the Riverside with my dad and I was only 7 years old.
The games in that early 60's era are a bit blurred for me( I'm 72 now so that's my excuse). Definetly won there in Oct 1962 by 3 goals to 2. I also remember being ahead at half time one year by 0-1 but they scored two in the second half( Ian Lawther may have scored both). Trying to recall the game sjb and basil 345789 mention where it seems we turned it around in the 2nd half for a 1-2 victory. And New Year's Day 1966 was a special win. Willie Irvine first half, then 'Bomber' Harris after the break. Ralph Coates directing play from a seated position ......... on the ball.

Re: Ewood Experience
The 2nd or 3rd time I went was in Spring 1966, to see Brian O'Neil play for England Under 23's v Turkey. England had a strong team, won 2 - 0 and Brian behaved himself!
Re: Ewood Experience
Wonder if the music was extra loud to drown us out of getting behind the lads in the warm up? Coz it was stupidly loud!

Re: Ewood Experience
I watched a blog yesterday where it showed an older Burnley fan getting hit with an object near to the Riverside stand, the blogger said bottle but it looked to cause some injury.
I hope he's OK.

Re: Ewood Experience
As a kid, sometime in the 60’s, I remember queuing up to get into the ground only for the match to be postponed due to fog. I’m fairly sure it was at Ewood Park. Can anyone tell me when it was?
(As a kid, like many others, I used to watch matches at both Turf Moor and Ewood so it’s possible it wasn’t a derby match, but I think it was)

Re: Ewood Experience
The 1-2 defeat would be 24 February 1962 Silky. We led at half time through Ray Pointer but Ian Lawther levelled just after the interval & Fred Pickering got their winner soon after the hour mark. Nearly 34000 on the game.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 4:53 pmMy first game there was in October 1959( title winning season) and we lost 3-2. Re: Ewood Experience
I can't recall a fogged off derby at Ewood though other posters may do. Our 4th Round FA Cup game there in 58/9 was abandoned at half time owing to a frozen pitch & played 4 days later when we won.ClaretCliff wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 9:29 amAs a kid, sometime in the 60’s, I remember queuing up to get into the ground only for the match to be postponed due to fog. Re: Ewood Experience
I think there was an FA Cup tie called off for fog or ice in the late 50's at Ewood Park against us. Stand to be corrected on that one, though.ClaretCliff wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 9:29 amAs a kid, sometime in the 60’s, I remember queuing up to get into the ground only for the match to be postponed due to fog. Re: Ewood Experience
I was at the U23 international, with my dad. I moved away from him and later got into verbals with some Bstd fans stood behind me. I heard a clicking then felt movement on the back of head and turned round, to see 1 of them had a lighter, trying to set my hair on fire. One of the reasons, I really hate them.

Btw Silky, late 50s and early 60s I used to go to Burnley and Blackburn matches with my mate and his brothers and dad. You might know them, the Hugo family who took over Boysons greengrocers on Manchester Road in Hassy, between the Savoy and Varleys newsagents. We used to pile into the green grocery van to go to the games.

Re: Ewood Experience
Was there for youth cup final a few years ago and sat in jack walker stand with a rovers mate as i had just come out of hospital and needed help , but what i heard from behind the enemy lines was disgusting towards our young lad's especially the subs who were warming up and it wasn't kids shouting it was old men to put it nicely , couldn't believe what i was hearing that night, the hatred towards us especially young lad's took it to a new level for me ...

Re: Ewood Experience
Definately not abandoned at half time but postponed just before kick off . We were queuing to get in and it was thick fog. I definately remember that - just can’t remember where or when!

Pretty certain it wasn't a Blackburn v. Burnley gameClaretCliff wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 11:50 amDefinately not abandoned at half time but postponed just before kick off . We were queuing to get in and it was thick fog. I definately remember that - just can’t remember where or when!

I remember that game,at work the day after a guy I worked with who was a bstards fan actually apologised and said he was embarrassed to be a fan that night.Clive 1960 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 11:46 amWas there for youth cup final a few years ago and sat in jack walker stand with a rovers mate as i had just come out of hospital and needed help , but what i heard from behind the enemy lines was disgusting towards our young lad's especially the subs who were warming up and it wasn't kids shouting it was old men to put it nicely , couldn't believe what i was hearing that night, the hatred towards us especially young lad's took it to a new level for me ...
They despise us as ( normal) people, whereas we tend to despise their club and the cheats they've been since their inception with benefactor after benefactor, plus their strange accent.

Re: Ewood Experience
I think the game you are referring to was on December 22nd 1962. Queued up to get in then called off for fog, I think. Opponents were West Brom and the game was eventually played in April 63.ClaretCliff wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 11:50 amDefinately not abandoned at half time but postponed just before kick off . Next home game was Boxing Day v Sheff Wed and then just a cup tie v Liverpool in Jan until March 9th.

He had 50 odd stitches as he fell down some of the stairs also after the object hit him.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 9:20 amI watched a blog yesterday where it showed an older Burnley fan getting hit with an object near to the Riverside stand, the blogger said bottle but it looked to cause some injury.
I hope he's OK.
He is a well known Burnley fan used to work on the doors in town and Cornwall in the summer.
Said he's a bit sore but enjoyed the win

If they get the coward who threw the object on cctv then arrest him I'm sure a former doorman would like to pay a visit.

Bunch of losers, copying Burnley and Helmond.
The guy with the black flag has even got odd shoes on,unless he's got a club foot.

Extremely funny that a former PEC Zwolle player scored the winning goal for us.

Re: Ewood Experience
My favourite visit to Ewood was the day Terry Cochrane scored an absolute worldy from about 25 yds. They battered us all match but couldn't equalise
