Agreed.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 7:00 amJohn Egan was a shrewd signing as was Joe Worrall, Ash and Josh Laurent. Lots of heart, talent and ability. They are ideal role models.
Those who are applauding Jack Cork being back at the club shaping the youth players with his knowledge and professionalism, are in the same breath bemoaning Jay Rod and Barnes being in the squad.
They bring experience, expectation, and confidence. We have young pros in a new country settling into the hardest league to escape from in the world, with the reward of being promoted into the hardest league in the world.
They need Barnes and the others more than they need the advice of a message board!
Seasoned, trusted pros on reduced terms for a year or two can be the difference between settled success and failure. I’ve walked that role, all be it in the cycling world and it’s THE blueprint of success.
They then retire, or move into the clubs back room as part of a succession plan.
This is just good management and great leadership from Pace and Parker.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
It will be very interesting to hear the names we are interested in currently. Can we add some creativity and a few more goals.
Left footed winger
Number 10
Striker
Would be the ideal window but I suspect we may get 2/3

I only meant for the Reading game.ClaretFelix wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 7:30 pmNo, let's just leave him where he is. Where he has played at youth and U23 level has no bearing on where he should be playing now.
He's performing brilliantly at CB, no need to muddy the waters

Ideal signing for me would be Philip Billing on loan (not that I think it will happen) natural big number 10 but can also play deeper if needed

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
The team is set up so defensively minded I don't think we'd see any difference if Trafford goes to be replaced by Hladky and it would be encouraged by Pace as it was a very expensive buy where the money should have been put into attack anyway.Guller Bull wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 1:27 pmYEP report on potential Trafford move to Newcastle offers interesting stats and food for thought on his possible move.

Would Hladkey/ Greene be able to offer the same stability across our defence whilst our attack offers little potency?
Could have far reaching implications to our promotion push. I’m not Traffords biggest fan but it would seem to cause massive disruption at this juncture of the season that would warrant a transfer fee of in excess of £40 million to make the risk worthwhile??
I just hope we see a change in approach with some better attackers.
Could we get Odobert back on loan maybe doesn't seem to be getting a look in down there.
I also think we are missing Vitinho for breaking through the lines.

Not Burnley but have you seen Sunderland are trying to sign Enzo Le Fee? I recall you were raving about him a season or two ago.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 8:26 pmNumber 10 is arguably the most critical position along with right wing this window

He has been playing as the central striker thus far. I don’t see it changing personally with Brownhill doing as well as he has further forward but we need an option to give us more creativity, and if the opportunity comes then could be in scope to replace Brownhill next season if he leaves on a free.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
It should be no real surprise that Delcroix would refuse a move to Standard. He came to us from Anderlecht, and there is absolutely no love lost between those two clubs. He could have ended up being booed by his own fans before kicking a ball for them.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 6:19 pmSacha Tavolieri now suggesting Hountondji is likely to complete his move to Standard tomorrow but Delcroix has rejected a move there

For a forward - any of the below (all out of favour)

Marc Guiu is the stand out on that list, no chance he comes to us though.
He would probably get a decent loan to a la liga club

If we have accepted anything under 30m it's a very poor bit of business.

Newcastle have a 20m geek international keeper on the bench, yes he was signed as a PSR stunt but I can’t understand why Trafford would think it’s best to move now

Does look like Dubravka is off, which is worrying, but equally no reliable media calling Trafford as his replacement yet.
I agree about the valuation, although we have form for selling keepers to Newcastle cheaply so nothing would surprise me.
If we want to start maximising profits from these young players we really do need to start learning to hang on to them for more than 18 months!

If we sell any of the regular 1st team squad before the summer and I was SP I be banging on the chairman’s door with a shotgun.

I really hope we don’t sell Trafford for anything less than £30m. If he goes for the £20m mentioned then Newcastle will be laughing at us.

Tresor, ekdal etc are part of the squad. I would have no problem with those being sold

I completely agree. I have to say though, given the summer transfer business I have no confidence that we’ll block a move at all.Rumpelstiltskin wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 9:08 amAbsolutely and he shouldn’t be going anywhere till Summer. It would be madness to disrupt our defence right now.
My main worry is that a deal was actually in place in summer and didn’t happen because something changed on the Newcastle side (did a summer move for Dubravka fall through), meaning we now have some form of gentleman’s agreement in place with Newcastle/Trafford to do it now.
Disrupting the best defence in the league mid-season would be absolute madness though. Giving Scott another unnecessary job to do. As he has rightly called out, we need stability.

Right now it would be in Newcastle's interest to keep Dubravka until season end. THey desperately need a trophy, and are on a good run in the league too. By Summer Pope will be fit again, and you could then have Trafford as their No 2 and ready to step in should Pope not perform

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Hopefully SP's performance and influence has grown to such a level where he can throw his weight around a little bit in regards to blocking transfers.
His last 'back me or sack me' shout didn't go so well but he wasn't exactly going into that one from a position of strength.

Of all the players we have that we value. Trafford would be the one i would least worry about if he left. And we have a good replacement.

We should not be selling anyone in or near the first team in this window and need to strengthen
Simple as that for me
Selling Trafford would be silly but he might want to go with how he was treated last season

On paper we have a good replacement on the bench but the way Trafford has been around the squad this season the bond with other players can’t be forgotten. If he leaves a big part of the buzz at the minute will be gone

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
With Barnes now back in the house I wouldn't be worried with that one. But keepers and their defence can take time to gel together which they have. I wouldn't want that changing unless it meant we brought in 2 players that would significantly improve our scoring.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 10:50 amOn paper we have a good replacement on the bench but the way Trafford has been around the squad this season the bond with other players can’t be forgotten. Would be a strange time for Dubravka to go to Saudi and basically retire. Just established himself at Newcastle and having a good season, chance to win something etc.
