Can we keep hold of CJ ??
CJ s contract is up on 30 June.
He has proved himself to be a great centre back for us and his distribution is topped class.
My fear is that the board may be tempted by big money for him in the summer window.
We must keep him at any cost.

Re: Can we keep hold of CJ ??
If he goes in the summer window there will be no big money unless he signs a new contract with us before then
Re: Can we keep hold of CJ ??
Wont be as big as you might think. Would walk for free were he older. If he wants to join a club and they dont accept our valuation the fee would be decided by tribunal and no doubt take into account his transfer in fee and his contract with us. Whatever we get we would lose (I think) a percentage of any profit to City.
Sadly I doubt he would be worth much to us in ££ but we should do our best to get him a new improved contract ASAP.

3 years contract according to article, but four years according to this official BFC tweet. Maybe it's 3 year with one year option?
Other media outlets have suggested four years

four years according to this
UTC homepage is guided by the club. We have seen it before where the club holds an option on a player without publicising it.
I am just guessing though....it's 3 or 4 years according to which articles you read

Re: Can we keep hold of CJ ??
Funny how it works. At the start of the season I reckon a lot of fans would have ok selling him on to a club in League One or Two. 20 games later and people think he's worth tens of millions. We had the same with Zaroury after half a season.
No brainer to offer him a new contract though. Hope it doesn't become an issue or a distraction.

I can only assume by the lack of news coming out that the club will have an option of a year, but are almost certainly working on a new deal.
He is one of our players of the season.

Re: Can we keep hold of CJ ??
Why are there mentions of a four-year deal?
Could his agent have leaked that it's a 4-year deal, ie. 3+option of a further year.
I am just guessing. The fact that the club tweeted that it was a 4-year deal and the lack of any news coming from the club would suggest there's no urgency over his contract?
Like I say, I don't really know. Have the club stated recently that he is out of contract?

Someone made a mistake on the tweet - it's a common occurrence at Burnley FC - the club confirmed a three year contract in announcing the signingmanuelbenny wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 3:24 pmWhy are there mentions of a four-year deal?

Can see him getting plenty of offers, some of which we won’t be able to compete with. Hope I’m wrong, but can’t see him being with us next season.

can't see any reason why he wouldn't want to stay here.

I suspect guaranteed Premier League teams, possibly a city offering far more than what we can may well turn his head. Both he and his agent know they are well and truly in the driving seat here.manuelbenny wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 3:59 pmfair enough...cheers ClaretTony....

Re: Can we keep hold of CJ ??
I guess its possible he will leave this window if he isn't going to sign a new contract.
A difficult decision for the club to make if an offer was to come in and he has no intention of staying beyond the summer. Would be a real shame to break up what has become a fantastic defensive unit that could serve the club well for years to come. With the Trafford rumours to Newcastle still circulating, its a worrying time.

It’d be galling to lose him for a pittance, either this transfer window or in the summer. However, nobody would've really predicted his meteoric rise, so I can understand the club being caught out with his contract, to some degree.
Should the worst happen, we also have Beyer to come back in, hopefully.

We will still get something for him in summer due to his age, it won't be much but it will probably be worth keeping him for the next six months to assist with our promotion bid.eastcoastclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 6:40 pmI guess its possible he will leave this window if he isn't going to sign a new contract.

If he goes, so be it
We find the next young defender from a bigger club and show them we can offer a path to first team football, like we did with Trips, Mee, Keane and CJ
That's what we should be doing

Would not be surprised if VK at Bayern shows interest in CJ in he summer.
He"s the reason why he came to Burnley in the first place.

Re: Can we keep hold of CJ ??
We will basically have to sign him again. Big signing on bonus and big wages.
Re: Can we keep hold of CJ ??
Not sure anyone could have predicted his growth from where he was at the start of the season.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 2:21 pmThe club have said three which is probably why they’ve are frantically trying to get a deal done.
I have a feeling we will sort something out unless of course someone is in for him in January. A longer contract on better money now with release clauses should someone come in look like a no brainer in the main.

It sounds like the club have the option of another year. My guess is likely will sign an extension if we go up. If not, I'd imagine a lot of the established mid/lower prem teams would be interested.

Re: Can we keep hold of CJ ??
I don't think it would have been possible to predict his growth to be honest. Even Parker said today that CJ was surprised that he turned to him when Joe Worrall was injured. But how he's grabbed his opportunity. Parker also confirmed that his contract is at an end this summer, something one new poster this week has been doing his best to say is not the case.Papabendi wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2025 3:37 pmNot sure anyone could have predicted his growth from where he was at the start of the season.

I was just wondering if he may have signed a four-year contract, perhaps 3-year deal with an option. That has been the case with other players. It's not me who suggested that, the club actually tweeted that he had signed a 4-year deal...it's been reported elsewhere too
But anyway you cleared it up yesterday and I thanked you for doing so. Obviously, Mr Parker has too today
No need to be precious and petty
(haha might be my last post ehh...)
Hope CJ signs, he's been superb
Re: Can we keep hold of CJ ??
I could wrong here, but is the reason that CJ was originally 5th choice CB , constantly loaned out and probably realised at the end of this season is because he has been playing as a full back.

Re: Can we keep hold of CJ ??
My worry is if I'm correct when he moved to us he had run his contract down. I hope that isn't what he his intending to do with us. But like most people prior to this season I wouldn't have been so concerned if he didn't sign another contract. But I will certainly be sad if he does leave. I have watched the club for a LONG time and I can't remember many defenders who could ping a ball like him, especially to Antony.
Re: Can we keep hold of CJ ??
Most supporters would not have cared too much if he left at the end of the season, because we didn't know how good he was as a CB.The people who should have known are the highly paid couches and managers who see players every day and are expected to know their qualities and skill levels.CJ is not just a bit better than the alternatives,he's a completely different class.A blind man on a galloping horse,to quote a previous manager should have seen this and extended his contract earlier. How much did we pay VK,£3m a year was it, absolutely ridiculous

That will likely be the case, especially if he's not playing. ((I fully understand why players do it to be honest)
Remember, a player will be able to negotiate a much higher wage or signing on fee if he goes on a free.

A shame, but don’t think that there is a cat in hell’s chance he will sign a new deal. Nobody’s fault, just the way it is. Hands up if you would have been excited if he’d signed a contract extension at the start of the season!
Re: Can we keep hold of CJ ??
You bet the offer was turned down, being 5th choice CB, playing out of position with players ahead of him that are not fit to lace his boots, he should have been in the team at the start of the season with an appropriate contact offer.Thats how you treat good players,..Alan Pace must be wondering why we pay these managers so much

He won't be a free though as he's under 24. Granted it won't be anything like what his worth would be with a 4 yr contract behind him, but you'd think if he could snag an U-21 call-up between now and the end of the season then that would help!Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2025 1:44 pmThat will likely be the case, especially if he's not playing. Re: Can we keep hold of CJ ??
I'm not having that. He'd just got back from a loan at PSV's youth side where he'd done absolutely nothing. Before that he'd had a loan at Hibs where by all accounts he'd done alright, but certainly no world beater. He'd done virtually nothing in the professional game to warrant starting the season as first choice for a top-end Championship team. He got in the team purely through circumstance, much like Dwight McNeil did, taken his chance and run with it.gtclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2025 2:08 pmYou bet the offer was turned down, being 5th choice CB, playing out of position with players ahead of him that are not fit to lace his boots, he should have been in the team at the start of the season with an appropriate contact offer.Thats how you treat good players,..Alan Pace must be wondering why we pay these managers so much

His been great this season, but his development has probably caught most people off guard, and he’s hardly been sat behind Steve Blatherwick in the pecking order.

Presuming esteve is going to go summer if cj goes too, leaves us with beyer, ekdal, Worral and humphries potential cover lb/cb, delcriox
?????? how we would love to see fully fit esteve and fully fit beyer partnership I think kompanies style of play made the cbs look abit better than they are but esteve has defiantly proved he can defend regardless of the style of play and the left foot appeals to teams

I’d love him to stay but has to be unlikely , though a season or 2 with us in prem would bring him on well . Steve surely goes to . Though long as we get promo Humphries looks a real talent ( the buy obligation surely needs promotion )
I’d love to see the club secure CJ and Steve as a real show of intent , though how ALK will deal with assets v prem money will be interesting…

Bit depressing that we could go up and lose Trafford, Esteve and CJ, realistically our only 3 players who are good enough to step up.

People are overlooking Connor Roberts also out of contract in the summer, who has been in absolutely fantastic form in the past few months.
Been suggested he wants to return to his beloved South Wales, Swansea a likely destination.

Not overlooking. I've put him in the same bracket as Brownhill - he's moving on regardless of whether we get promoted or not. Traff - Newcastle
CJ - who knows likely have premier suitors
Esteve - certainly will have bigger and better things on offer.
Roberts - Swans.
Quite a big overhaul tbf that whether we go up or not.
