Team for tomorrow

Post by boatshed bill » Fri Jan 10, 2025 8:25 pm

I haven't seen a thread on this, perhaps the FA Cup isn't important enough ;)
Anyhow, here's a team I'd like to see.

Hladky,
Sonne (if he's not suspended), Worrall, Humphreys, Pires,
Cullen, Laurent,
Anthony, Sarmiento, Koleosho,
Foster.

We'd get battered if we made 11 changes against a half decent side from the league below.

Needs to be a mix. Maybe 5 rested, if that.

In the league I favour experience in the squad but it would be nice tomorrow to see some of the u21s either start or make the bench.

We haven’t seen anything of Lewis Richardson for what seems like ages

Hyladky
Some Worrall Egan Pires
Laurent Brownhill
Koleosho Sarmiento Foster

I’m not particularly fussed about the Fa cup be nice to give the fringe players a go to keep them sharp for the run in

Lewis has played recently for the u21s. Not sure he’s available tomorrow but I don’t think you will be disappointed if you want to see some u21s in the match day squad.

With our lack of wide players fit and the need to rest a few, we might see a back 3

Hladky

Worrall Egan Ekdal

Sonne Laurent McDermott Pires

Koleosho Jay Rod foster

Injuries haven’t helped Richardson and us being in the premier league when he first came through, probably leaves on a free at the end of his deal and becomes one of the what if stories

Tbf 123 with 4 senior strikers on the books you would imagine Richardson wouldn’t play anyway

Richardson seemed like he played more as a 10 for the u21s couple of weeks ago, so thought he might help with our lack of wide options for one cup game that’s all

Not sure losing at Reading at the start of January will keep players sharp for the run in around March/April

Who plays midfield then? I'd like to think Parker will treat cup games with a bit more respect than Dyche did.

Neither the Bournemouth nor Fulham teams managed by Parker in the Championship had significant FA Cup runs both being eliminated at the 4th round stage. Bournemouth being beaten at home by Boreham Wood.
Hopefully we can progress beyond today’s 3rd Round stage and give an opportunity to some of the younger players.

I'd like to see Koloesho through the middle as a number 10. People may scoff but can see that being his most dangerous position.

I certainly wouldn't be changing the formation in defence. Why would we with the record we have? That would be ridiculous. I want to see Koleosho in the number 10 with Foster ahead of him. Something like:

Anthony Laurent McDermott Sarmiento
Koleosho
Foster

Either go full rotation or experiment with our strongest team in a setup designed to breakdown teams that are expected to sit in - where we'll have long periods of the ball... could stand us in good stead for the remainder of the league

I disagree. Players who are close to the first team or bench need to be surrounded with first team players. This isn't a friendly.

I couldn’t disagree any more. He’d have even less space in the middle and for someone whose weaknesses are close control and awareness this would be a bad move.

Maybe if he played as a 9 on the shoulder of the centre halves he could be effective with his pace and space to run into. But as a 10? Not for me. He’s not a good enough footballer.

We don't agree on much so no problem here. If you watched us you'd know he sometimes has 5 players on him out wide. One on him, one or two ahead of him and one or two behind him. Through the middle his trickiness is perfect. Would he be a target man number 10? Absolutely not. But a number 10 doesn't always have to be a target man. He'd still be the man you get the ball to who would turn and supply the striker. And we'd of course need a striker/cf who ran on.

I would like to see Flemming given a full game with a striker ahead of him. It’s also a good opportunity to get some much needed game minutes into Foster’s legs.

Hladky
Sonne Worrall Egan Pires
Sarmiento Cullen Laurent Koleosho
Flemming Foster

We do lack a bit of depth in midfield to give the likes of Cullent and Laurent some down time.

Passing is the worst part of his game and that's a pretty important part of the number 10. I'm not sure he's got a trick in him to work in small spaces or the strength to fend of the opposition in a congested area.

He's quick and can dribble. He's a winger. He just needs to improve.

Is that right? I don’t remember ever disagreeing with you previously….

Koleosho turning in a tight area and supplying a striker with a weighted pass? Not happening, I’m afraid. He would need to improve his game immeasurably to have the ability to do this.
