TV choices for FA Cup
Prem at home to League 2 twice today. I won’t be watching another procession.
Teams may be taking the FA Cup less seriously these days, but TV companies continuing to pander to the larger fan bases is doing nothing to promote the competition.

Re: TV choices for FA Cup
Agree but was pleased that Liverpool v Stanley was selected as the money Stanley received May keep the club solvent for a much longer period
Been trying to find the Attendance figure for the game but without success so far.

Re: TV choices for FA Cup
Sorry....the cup known for giant killing games you don't want to see on TV?
Absolutely should be on TV and rightly so. Wish Leeds Vs Harrogate was on somewhere
The quarters/semi will generally be all PL affair, enjoy the drama and novelty whilst it's on

But how many real giant killings have their been over the years when the big team was in the comfort of their own home? They usually end up 5-0+.criminalclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 5:50 pmSorry....the cup known for giant killing games you don't want to see on TV?

I may be misremembering, but when I was a kid and the FA Cup was huge, the TV games were always either the big clubs facing off or the underdogs on their home patch.

Burnley 0 - 1 Lincoln City ring a bell?
Your right. We should just play teams against other teams in their same league and put that in TV. We don't have enough of that.

Leeds v Harrogate is on BBBC. Red button I think.criminalclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 5:50 pmSorry....the cup known for giant killing games you don't want to see on TV?

Well, I'm not sure how many neutrals will be watching Man City hammer Salford at home.criminalclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 5:57 pmBurnley 0 - 1 Lincoln City ring a bell?

Re: TV choices for FA Cup
Obvs s clearly gonna be a higher likelyhood of a team further up the football league beating one below it, don't think many are expecting less. But it's the novelty of such a fixture and how many banana skins have happened over the years, that's what people tune in foragreenwood wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 6:00 pmWell, I'm not sure how many neutrals will be watching Man City hammer Salford at home.
Same for Tamworth v Spurs and Millwall Vs G and R also

Re: TV choices for FA Cup
I don’t disagree with you, but for me the likelihood of a memorable upset is enhanced by the underdog being on their own patch. Yes, there’s been the odd upset over the years when the big club are at home, but by and large they are more like training games.criminalclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 6:04 pmObvs s clearly gonna be a higher likelyhood of a team further up the football league beating one below it, don't think many are expecting less. Thanks
Wow 60,261
Stanley will get a big pay day
Tamworth not much v Spurs as ground only holds between 3,000 and 4, 000

Re: TV choices for FA Cup
Would have preferred the Leeds v Harrogate game to be one on the main channel as featuring non premier teams buts its better than them showing the usual “Arsenal v Man Utd” type games that more often than not as a borefest as the cancel each other out
Re: TV choices for FA Cup
I think that around £500,000 was mentioned in commentary.DAVETHEVICAR wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 6:12 pmThanks

Got to agree. It’s not watchable at all.agreenwood wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 5:42 pmPrem at home to League 2 twice today. I won’t be watching another procession.

Re: TV choices for FA Cup
Its great for the lower league sides getting money spinning games, but not great to watch on TV for a neutral. Tbf which of the 3pm games would have been better?

Re: TV choices for FA Cup
They don’t show much love stuff but then they go straight to the greedy 6. Pointless
Re: TV choices for FA Cup
Morecombe would be my choice. Maybe a club that needs a little air time rather than the Man Utd 92 backed Salford. Hardly the underdogs to want to win after they’ve bullied and barged their way up.

Re: TV choices for FA Cup
Someone from the Morecambe was on Radio Lancs earlier saying they would earn about £350k, so maybe Accy will earn close to £500k? Like you say, a very big pay dayDAVETHEVICAR wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 6:12 pmThanks

Seriously, who wants to watch Man City beat Salford by 10 goals?

Yeah, doing the 'Poznan' is embarrassing in any game, but doing it against Salford is extremely cringeworthy.Stonehouse wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 7:28 pmCity celebrating like they’d beaten Real Madrid ,classless.

Re: TV choices for FA Cup
So, Stanley may be inline to receive around £1m for today’s fixture? 45% of gate receipts plus what, £100K for TV money and £25K loser’s award.

I think it is BBC/ITVs only chance to show a live game involving the “big6”.
