Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Given their current league position I cannot see Plymouth selling Morgan Whittaker in the January window unless they receive an offer well above his true valuation. They will not be strapped for cash given they have a lucrative home FA Cup tie against Liverpool on the horizon. The owners will also be mindful of any fans backlash in selling their best attacking forward at a crucial stage of the season.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Puzzling if we've sat all this time waiting and still not figured out how much he'll cost. Would be a pretty exciting signing though.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Only one of those is at Burnley, so you're suggesting selling him, in the hope you could sign one of those?KRBFC wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 12:07 pmThere’s a few better forwards at this level than Foster despite some insane posters claiming he was the best in the division, think even those posters have realised how laughable that sounds.
Flemming Piroe Adebayo Morris Sargent Gnonto Cannon Wright Isidor to name a few
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I dont disagree with that. Koleosho is young and been injured so worthy of more time yet to see how he goes.Stonehouse wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 12:01 pmFoster probably did more positive things on Saturday than Koleosho has done for most of the season ,probably the only good thing he’s done was scoring against DL’s when he’d no one to beat and could show his speed otherwise he’s very unproductive with the ball ,I don’t dislike him but I think loaning him out to a mid table championship team that aren’t seen by others as being a major threat so don’t play a low block against them would give him a bit more room to play as an out and out winger and restore his confidence he’s similar how Dyche used to say about McNeil and never seems to play with a smile on his face.
So far, Foster hasn't proved anything and a fair judgement can be reached he's had time. My judgement is he's expendable.
Hopefully he takes his chance in the team if/when he gets it and makes my opinion look premature.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I think we'd get Whittaker for around £8m, at that price you're never going to lose money, even if we sold him back to the championship after promotion.
He's certainly a talent, just not sure he's premier league standard, but who knows

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
The most pleasing thing about Saturday, other than the way Bauress and McDermott played, was seeing the powerful runs from Foster. I know it was only Reading but they could well be in the Championship next season. We are all aware Fosters biggest issues have been fitness and consistency, but with the spirit in the camp being what it is, and under Parker's management, I think he could be huge for us in the next 3-4 months.
And as to why we need another wide man, simply look at Koleosho's stats this season. I think Parker has to keep him on the bench now, because of his persistence in trying to dribble past 3 or 4 defenders and consistently getting the team in trouble, its becoming noticeable the fans are turning against him because of his lack of end product, and that is not good for the youngsters development

You could go through the championship, and find 2 things that every single player has done really well. It doesn't make them all great.TsarBomba wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 9:27 amAgainst Bristol City, Whittaker provided a nice assist by driving to the byline and dinking a cross to the back post.
Against Brentford, he’s cut inside, beaten 2/3 players and drilled a shot into the corner.
Bizarre that people are saying he’s not what we need when he is exactly what we have been missing from our wide players- end product and the ability to mix it up.
Whittaker had 1 very good season, and it wasn't this one. He's of an age where that 1 good season might be his lot. I'm not saying it is, and I'd happily take him, but not at any price. It would be a massive risk to a club of our size, and one not worth taking, at a reasonable price, maybe.

Haven’t read it in here but Hull have had a big rejected for Whittaker.

Tella has had one good season in his career and everyone still wanted us to spend 15m on tella, I was one of those that wanted us to sign tella. Isn’t there a risk with any signing that they might not hit the heights of their former club. Flemming had 15 goals in his first season at Millwall and only 7 goals last season, he’s now on 6 for us this seasonColburn_Claret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 12:45 pmYou could go through the championship, and find 2 things that every single player has done really well. My point was highlighting 2 things that Whittaker has done, only in the past few weeks, which are specific things that our wingers have struggled with all season- end product and variation.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Can we not sweeten the Whittaker deal by offering Koleosho on loan until the end of the season?
We'd have Whittaker, Sarmiento, Anthony, Foster, Hannibal, Tresor, Agyei, Benson (when fit), Redmond (when fit) to name but a few that can play wide if needed.

I like Lyle Foster and think he could yet well be a leading light in this division but if a bid of 20m + came in for him as Ipswich did I'd be biting their hand off.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Perhaps so. He's a good player but if someone is offering that amount of money then I believe we're capable of finding someone better for some or all of that fee.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
For fun, compared the FIFA/FC25 stats on Anthony and Whittaker.
Almost identical. Using their detailed breakdown, accepting it is just a game but one EA Sports takes pride in researching, Whittaker is like a left footed version of Anthony, who we know Parker adores.
I do find it hard to believe Parker won’t ensure he gets his man.

Hull in for Whittaker as well according to sky sports
Plymouth Argyle have rejected bids from Burnley and Hull City for forward Morgan Whittaker.
The 24-year-old scored the winner for the Championship side against Brentford in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Maybe, but anyone looking at paying £20m for Foster will look at his medical history and then at his stats and will at best want to loan him first. Having already loaned out Amdouini doing that with Foster makes no sense. Before anyone says but yes, Ipswich offered £20m+ in August-we dont know that for certain, and if they were to revisit they will think they dodged a bullet if they look at his stats for this year
He is best staying with us, getting his confidence back, and helping us achieve promotion. That could of course turn him into a £25m +striker

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Please God do not buy Whittaker. Only one season where he showed any potential and has been decidedly below that this year. I just don't see the logic in buying a player who isn't better than what we have already and is certainly not PL level. It would be a waste of money going after him as I can't see what he would add to the team. He wouldn't start and would mostly be on the bench. I also don't see the logic in sending Hountondji out on loan then get Whittaker he is not the player we need. Burnley have a habit of pursuing players for a long period but he is only bang average at the moment in a struggling team. I hope we miss out and lookn elsewhere.

Suspect player won't want to go to Hull given they are also in the relegation zone and only three points above Plymouth. So even if they offer more than us, chances are he would dig his heels in and push to come to us instead.

That’s a silly debate just because our wingers can’t score goals doesn’t mean we should sign a winger that also can’t score goals.KRBFC wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 11:55 amSo you’ve only seen him this season? he also got 3 goals in 18 league games, how many does our other wide options have?
Only a new watcher would assume playing for Plymouth and Burnley is the same thing, completely ignoring league positions is the dumbest thing.
I’m going to trust Parker and the recruitment team but I think it’s more than fair to say that anyone that has seen him play this year is in the right to be at least dubious of this signing.
Your point about league position is just as daft, Plymouth actually create more chances than we do for a start. Plus it all depends on systems etc…. That’s why Wood has been so successful and Burnley and Forrest but couldn’t hit a barn door at Newcastle.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
That was pre injury when he was full of confidence, since his injury we haven't seen the same Koleosho and I doubt we would by sending him to PlymouthCoolClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 2:28 pmHe looked more confident playing every week last year whilst we were getting battered.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
It is encouraging that the club are serious about addressing and improving on our attacking weaknesses this window.
It’s clear we can’t unfortunately rely on Koleosho. Considering our main attacking play is to feed the two wingers , for Koleosho not to have any assists this season, says a lot about our lack of goals and lack of service to our centre forward, whoever is playing there at the time.
A quality left footed winger is essential if we want to be in the top two.

A simple "I don't rate him" would suffice. Instead you've gone for "Only one season where he showed any potential".
Yes I'm sure a Championship footballer somehow made it to that level of football despite showing absolutely 0 potential at any point in his career.
He then suddenly banged in 20 goals.
Bit farfetched isn't it.

Serious rumours around Newcastle re James Trafford whose current Burnley salary is £25k a week....The Toon pay their no 2 £40k. so must be very tempting for JT with Dubravka possibly on his way and Nick Popes injuries.
...and continuous EPL and euro football good possibility.
So....I'm not too happy with Hladky being our permanent no.1....and no sign of any decent keepers available....a bit worrying.
