I'm talking getting game time here not just training, the lad at Dundee is a rarity in the amount of game time he's getting and again I question the actual standard of the league he's in.
Getting game time here this season is inviting unnecessary pressure on a young lad, they don’t need the pressure of a promotion push now, let them go and play free in league one or two.
But your argument about positive quality role models in the lower leagues isn’t right, some might say there are better role models in those leagues than in the championship and premiership

Its actually a shame we have poor cup draws because I can’t see Parker playing bauress away at Southampton, it would of been nice to get a championship team in the cup and then let him play and test him at the level

This is a perennial argument and of late we have loaned out promising youngsters to non league sides imo hampering their progress through to the first team. Now we have Chriis Casper at the helm I feel an improvement in our system is imminent

Which players have we loaned out to non league teams who would have made it into the first team

We recently had a situation where Will Hughill was loaned out to Chester and then after only a month moved to Fylde. I know that Fylde are in a higher league but switching a player around doesn't make sense to me as it can unsettle their development. He was well thought of at Chester and that came from one of the Directors, who I know personally.

Immaterial of Southampton being a premiership team in (in name if not nature) I'd like to see Scott show even more faith in the two lads and start them again in the cup. Let's be honest we aren't going to get that much further so let's keep giving the youth and fringe players the opportunity to get up to speed so they are 100% ready should they be called on in the second half of the season. That to me most definitely isn't undue pressure on the youngsters and I'm sure if both were asked that question they would welcome any further opportunities to get involved.

In the cup their isn’t pressure but I just think with Parker’s conservative nature he won’t put the young lads in the firing line against Southampton, but I could be wrong

Southampton are low on confidence and there for a bit of an upset I feel - I'd be tempted to go with the two young lads and maybe put Laurent behind them within a midfield three.

Southampton might be more focused on the league, or they could be looking for a win against us to give them some momentum. The pressure will certainly be on them which can only help.

Bit off topic, but I think Southampton will be desperate for a win against us and will go full strength. Being rock bottom with such a low points total and getting knocked out of the cup by us wouldn’t be helpful for the rest of the season.
I’d go near full strength, maybe just Hladky, Sonne and Bauress from the team that started vs Reading.

It’s amazing how still after years go by people still don’t understand that discussion threads go off on tangents. The initial post about Shelvey led to talking about the young lads getting a game which led into the cup game at Southampton. It’s what happens.

I'd agree, they're so far gone in the league there's no point resting players, may as well have a crack at the cup. I don't think they made loads of changes for the 3rd round.
I'd still be tempted to play Bauress or Mcdermott, but alongside a bit of experience.

We've Oxford (h) the preceding Tuesday and then Hull (h) the following Wednesday.
6 pts from those will be the priority - I can see 11 changes for the 500-mile round trip in between those two.
Preston, Pompey and Sheff Wed the other surrounding fixtures for which i'm sure 7 or 9 points will also be the target of the club (and most on here).
Saints Shmaints for me.

I'd be surprised if the bit about us seeing his long term future being true. I'd hope so because once Esteve is gone it'd be nice to have another left footed centre half to come in.

Little off topic but notice Sacha hasn't had much to say about us this window and whether you like the guy or not he's been bang on the money with a lot of stuff.
My guess is that whoever was feeding him stuff left in the summer transfer window.

I wouldn’t say he was bang on the money, he got a couple of things right in the summer of 2022 even if they were already in the media and then he rinsed of the fact Burnley fans would cling onto his every word.
He was embarrassing in Jan 2024, he said benson was signing for Leeds on loan about 5 times. Then in the summer he claimed we wanted Hulls first team coach to replace kompany, then it was mark robins and Ashley Cole. The stories about foster and koleosho. Talks waffle, anyone begging for people to realise who ‘first called’ a potential move

Rosenior was interviewed, bids were in for Foster and Koleosho and Leeds were in for Benson also.
In relation to the first transfer window he had under Kompany, he called a number of things first, correctly.
Other than all of that you're right.

Hulls first team coach at the time was called Steven Dawson or something, if you are going to pass off information as your own at least check if Rosenior was still the Hull manager

Plymouth boss Miron Muslic said: "I have a very good first impression of Morgan. I know it's busy for him because I think in the background something is going on but that's normal if you have this quality and you are that kind of profile. It's just normal, but he's very professional and he can deal with that."
"He's a player who can have one individual moment and decide the game for us. That's quality. Normally those guys cost a lot of money."
I haven't seen anyone else linked with Whittacker. Plymouth are being linked with Liverpool's young striker Darren Witcoop but they have a problem because they have 5 loan players, one of them being Obafemi. You have to wonder if making his transfer permanent can't play a part in the transfer. That would allow them to free up a loan spot. With us trying to limit the amount spent before the end of the season that could be something that would suit us too.

Them wanting to make the Obafemi deal a permanent one, might be an issue. I don’t know, but has he actually done anything there to warrant them committing to a contract over 3 plus years?
Perhaps us taking Obafemi back might be more appealing!

I was under the impression you could have as many loans as you wanted in the championship but only 5 in each matchday squad

BBC Muslic on Whittaker (slightly bigger quote than above). I interpret this as being highly likely to be on his way.
"It's not about how much I want to keep him at the club, it's also about what's the best for Morgan," he said.
"He's a fantastic football player. He is the player who can have one individual moment and decide the game for us. That's quality. Normally those guys cost a lot of money.
"I think the Brentford goal, that's what you get with Morgan, he can just finish the game for you or kill your opponent.
"That makes him super-interesting, I think, for a lot of other clubs and I think he's ambitious enough to also realise that he wants to take the next step.
"I like players who have ambitions and we will see then what's the best for Morgan and what's the best for us.
"Right now I consider him fully, fully as an Argyle player. Everything I saw so far over the last three or four or five days - very professional.
"One talk between us wasn't about moving or a transfer, it was about being ambitious, achieving goals, what we can achieve right now."
