Got into great areas as usual, zero end product, not a good cross from Anthony all night long. Too static when the ball comes in, nobody gambling and getting across a defender. Foster couple of decent runs but again, zero technical ability, awareness or quality to produce something meaningful.

Re: Burnley v Sunderland - Player Ratings
Trafford 10* - incredible confidence, got in isidors head. Distribution too slow but that may be tactical from parker
Roberts 7 - solid
Egan-Riley 8 - great block at the end
Esteve 8.5 - brick wall. Won basically every challenge. One or two dodgy passes though
Humphreys 6 - our best crosser but had a bad 2nd half
Cullen 7 - our most composed and press resistant player today
Brownhill 5 - tried but kept getting bad touches
Laurent 6 - adds physicality to the midfield
Anthony 6 - looked really sharp at the start but struggled thereafter. very hardworking defensively though
Foster 6 - made some good runs first half, still unsure on what his best postion/role in the team is
Flemming 5 - bad day for him. Didn't get his pressing right and couldn't hold the ball up. Mepham had him on toast
Sarmiento 6
Parker 6 - I really feel Barnes should have been given a go as a sub for flemming. Hes the only striker who can compete physically with big centre backs. Also there was no plan b in attack once sunderland started reading the ball over the top for anthony

A game lacking guile and as ever nobody capable of making an assist. Tresor absence to come on for last 10 deeply frustrating. Trafford heroics stole a point we looked set to lose. Ref gifted them a pen and denied us one but in truth Sunderland were the most likely since Flemming missed his great chance on 47.
I felt we settled for a draw, which is what I hate about Parker, and that mentality nearly led to defeat. Too much turning back from goal, heck even our false 9. A bit more intent we win that game.
Gor to improve for top 2 finish.

You asked the question. Dont shoot the messenger.
Re: Burnley v Sunderland - Player Ratings
Not a pretty watch, certainly not after the first 10 minutes or so. We started brightly but were second best in pretty much every area. They were quicker than us, pressed higher than us, moved the ball quicker than us, and missed the biggest chances of the match. Had we lost 3-0 it would not have been unfair. We can argue that the referee was very poor, and Sunderland did a lot of "dark arts", but it's up to us to stand up against it, but we never laid a glove on their back 4. I genuinely don't think they'll have an easier night. Flemming never used his physicality, Brownhill was well off the pace and we didn't put a decent cross into the box from either wing. It felt like a massive step back tonight, but it highlighted our shortcomings. Their striker has had a nightmare in front of goal, but my word, he was a handful. If only we had someone with his movement, pace and willingness to run. Esteve and CJ were terrific again, but they needed to be.
Trafford 10 - can't be anything less given the circumstances!
Roberts 6 - struggled
Bashir 6 - struggled
Esteve 9 - Back to his best!
CJ 9 - Another stellar performance
Cullen 6 - sloppy on the ball
Laurent 6 - didn't impose himself on the game enough
Brownhill 4 - an absolute stinker from our captain in a game where we really needed him
Anthony 5 - lots of huff and puff, didn't hide from the ball, but his final ball was non existent
Foster 7 - our only threat in the final third. I can't understand why Parker moved him from the left as it killed his game. We should have brought Jay or Barnes on up front and left hi where he was
Flemming 4 - as Brownhill, an absolute stinker. O'Nien and Mepham could have played in their slippers. We need a centre forward!!
Sarmiento 5 - wrong sub to bring on altogether. The game needed physicality and SP went for the smallest man on the bench!

Re: Burnley v Sunderland - Player Ratings
A good point and a fair result overall.
Trafford - 9 - I'm not sure his decision making as to when to play short and draw Sunderland on, and when to go longer, was especially good today, and nor was execution of those passes as good as it might have been, but those two penalty saves (and especially the second) were world class.
Roberts- 7 - thought he had a steady game against a tricky customer and unless he picked up a niggle, it was surprise that he was withdrawn and we were poorer for it.
Humphreys- 7 - very good for 75 minutes but lost his composure thereafter and the first penalty came from his error.
Egan Riley - 8 - generally very good but it was a sutprise he didn't use his long passing more as the game went on.
Esteve - 9 - absolutely imperious.
Cullen - 7 - generally controlled the game but he was one of several players guilty of conceding possession in dangerous areas.
Laurent - 7 - showed a nice range of passing at times and gave us a physical edge in the first 70 minutes that Sunderland struggled to match, but became a bit ragged late on.
Brownhill - 6 - not at his best tonight although it was still a surprise that he was withdrawn, and his value was evident by his absence.
Anthony - 7 - started like a train and had Cirkin on toast for 25 minutes, and whilst he was increasingly muted as the game wore on, he was still the man most likely to create something. Should have scored in the first half.
Foster - 6 - some nice flashes of quality, notably in teeing up Anthony's chance, but we didn't make enough use of him as an outlet on the left and he didn't do enough at times to get into positions to threaten the goal.
Flemming - 5 - ineffective. Nothing stuck with him tonight and he fluffed the big chance that came his way although he might well have won a penalty on another night.
Sarmiento- 5 - not sure he was the change we needed when Flemming came off and he didn't impose himself on the game.
For 70 minutes we edged a decent game of football and just about had the better chances as well, although we probsbly didnt create as much as our control warranted, and at times Sunderland looked the more incisive side.
Our subs didn't work - Flemming was rightly withdrawn because he struggled but Sunderland looked vulnerable to pace to me and Koleosho might have added it, whilst then moving Sarmiento to 10 and replacing Roberts with Sonne disrupted us an our control of midfield badly - and Sunderland ended the game with real momentum. Neither penalty looked clear cut (although the first might well have resulted in a free kick and a red card for Egan Riley) and we looked hard done to not to have one of our own earliee on, but thankfully, Trafford performed his heroics to preserve a largely deserved point.
Overall, it's a decent result but it underlined once again the need for more penetration in the final third.

Re: Burnley v Sunderland - Player Ratings
Good game that between two of the better sides in the division. Nice to see another team actually come and try to play a bit. That said, the only way they were going to score tonight was from a gift and another absolutely rancid referee gave them two. Good job we have a top drawer goalkeeper.
Trafford 10 rare you will see a keeper save two pens in a game. Even rarer you’ll see a keeper completely destroy a centre forward like Trafford did to Isador tonight.
Roberts 7 did fine against the best player in the league lol. Inexplicably subbed.
Egan-Riley 8 passing first half was nuts again, got the wrong side for the first pen and let the lad dive into the box
Esteve 9 the recovery to save Trafford’s first half rush of blood exemplified why he’s a cut above
Humphreys 8 excellent again
Cullen 8 metronome
Laurent 6 a bit in and out was the big dogg
Brownhill 6 below his usual standard
Anthony 7 had the measure of their left back for most of the game, some decent balls from open play but awful from dead balls and he was the only player on the pitch to force the keeper to make a save from open play
Foster 6 was doing well until he was moved inside
Flemming 6 also inexplicably hooked, our best chances were falling to him and one of them was a clear penalty
Sarmiento 4 bring him on into the middle by all means but he’s ineffective on the wing
For each of the subs, I thought at the time they were the wrong ones and so it proved as the red geordies looked the more likely to steal the points near the end. Bringing Sonne on was the worst decision, really not the game to be throwing him in like that.
We were the better team overall and it would have been a travesty if we’d lost but a point each was probably right in the end.

Re: Burnley v Sunderland - Player Ratings
We started well (first 15/20) and finished abysmally (last 20) in between both teams cancelled each other out, with half chances and a bit of bluster but not any real substance. We are god awful at home in ATTACK, with a a whole array of honest but pretty average players.

Roberts 8 (why on earth was he taken off, i didnt understand at the time and still dont)

Re: Burnley v Sunderland - Player Ratings
Trafford - 10* - you can’t give him anything less after 2 penalty saves. Superb
Roberts - 6 - steady away
CJER - 8 - yet another excellent performance. Never a penalty and the block was sensational
Esteve - 8 - back to his best
Humphreys - 7 - kept Roberts quiet in the main
Cullen - 6 - worked hard
Laurent - 7 - at least tried to take the ball forward - his physicality was essential tonight
Brownhill - 5 - just one of those nights for him where little came off
Foster - 7 - grafted and looked our main hope
Flemming - 4 - how he played nearly 70 minutes is baffling. No movement and so flat footed. Even for the penalty shout his reactions are so slow
Anthony - 5 - a strange one. Some good stuff but some really poor stuff as well
Sarmiento - 5 - absolutely no impact at all

Trafford 9 mom questionable decision making prior to the pens but to make 2 saves from undeserved penalties is outstanding

Started off well but soon turned into a fairly dour spectacle. Moved the ball slowly, slack passing and no quality or end product in the final third. Central defence excellent again. Not sure the Sonne and Barnes subs were needed. Need a striker urgently.

Subs:
Sarmiento 6
After the first 20/25 minutes when we were on top anf looking ok we petered out and in the second half we were woeful, Brownhill our captain was the most lethargic player on the pitch and needs a spell on the bench. we lacked any form of creativity whatsoever, hopefully JJ Shelvey might help us out in that area if he signs. Sunderland were nothing special but we managed to make them look world beaters.
Parker 3 for watching that shite for so long without making changes.

Re: Burnley v Sunderland - Player Ratings
Trafford 10 Great PEN saves
Roberts 7 Should not have been subbed
Egan-Riley 9 Terrific passing 1st half, great block saving agoal 2nd, conned by the ref for the penalty and their player clicked his own heeels
Esteve 9 I say Esteveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Humphreys 8 excellent again
Cullen 8 usual patrol shift in front of the back 4
Laurent 6 some good runs
Brownhill 6 below his usual standard
Anthony 7 still trying and its near midnight
Foster 6 should have been subbed, I said on the Barnes signing if it stops the 0-0 then I'm all for it, no chance with seconds to go!
Flemming 6 we still need a goal poacher
Sarmiento 4 he runs with it well, its the rest that's not there

Re: Burnley v Sunderland - Player Ratings
Roberts got subbed because he got injured about 5 minutes before when one of their players left one on him on halfway Infront of the 4th official, unpunished yet again
