Rumours in Devon that we've gone back with a big bid for whitaker
Not seen anything online
Not sure we would pay the 12m they're talking about and personally I don't think he's worth it.

Maybe Obefemi part of the deal with let’s say a £2m valuation

I think Plymouth fans would rather we added £2m on if we were forcing them to register Obafemi as a permanent signing.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 5:37 pmMaybe Obefemi part of the deal with let’s say a £2m valuation

I fear Plymouth are going to pull our pants down here, playing on the desperation about our need for a goal scorer.
I don't understand the clamour for this rather mediocre player who seems to have an attitude problem according to Plymouth fans.

With respect to Plymouth, the culture at our club will be significantly different to that at Plymouth. He wouldn’t be the main man here , he would be another cog in the system surrounded by more experienced players of higher level football nurturing him, hopefully.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
No pretence on my part. You made reference to 'another goal scoring forward' which to me inferred that we already have one( or more perhaps). Could you identify the goalscorer (or goalscorers) currently at.our disposal? I may sound flippant but that's because we never addressed this situation after promotion some 20 months ago and it has never been addressed in the interim. Never mind, though as Mr Micawber used to say there'll be something along soon.

If we have bid that much and it’s not heavily based on performance add-ons we need our heads looking at.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 7:58 pmhttps://x.com/wattssw12/status/18809817 ... rNr6Z5x6nA

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
As I posted even before the January window opened I could not envisage Plymouth agreeing to the sale of Whittaker unless we offered a ridiculous fee, way above his true valuation, because the transfer options available at this time of the year are so limited.

Yeah if it is, I’d be more okay with it. Good point on the wages. That’s probably an important thing we’re looking at overall.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 8:31 pmYou’d hope that any fee is heavy on instalments and performance add ons, if it is that then it’s fine, can’t imagine he’s on massive wages either
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
It looks like his head has been turned as they are saying he has been lazy the past couple of games. He has the chance to play at the opposite end of the table with better players, which will improve him, and also have a decent pay rise. It's a short career so he will want to do what is best for him in the long run. Will be interesting if he plays on Wed as he might try to sell himself to us.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I dont know enough about Whitaker to guage what is value is. However if we have a bid of circa £12m, in whatever construction of the fee, and been interested since Summer, I am somewhat surprised there appears to be no other club interested. As I say, he might turn out to be a blinding bit of business but usually its a two or three horse race for good prospects
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
We might be trying to get Leeds to sign him
. They seem to wait until we are linked with someone and then rumoured to be after that player.

I think had he of left Plymouth in the summer on the back of 19 goals in a struggling team 12m would of looked good value for money but based of this season it looks like we would be over payingwarksclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 8:46 pmI dont know enough about Whitaker to guage what is value is. Can see this being a "Tarkowski" situation when Burnley played Brentford and he refused to play.
Got a feeling both clubs will want this sorting before Wednesday.

Is this guy Whittaker a central striker ?
If not, what's the point when our real need is for one

All feels very desperate going off some random fans tweet.
I’m sure another has been or will be put in and when it is it usually doesn’t take long to start doing the rounds with reputable journos on social media.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I think we need to remember, that by all accounts, the deal in the summer was literally at the finishing line but we were asked to hold on so that a replacement could be in the building: it then got messy. It was all agreed. He wanted to come.
His performances haven’t been brilliant this season and I strongly SUSPECT that this is because he was expecting to play for Burnley from September onwards. There’s a strong argument that he should have got his head down. How I see it:
We had all but got him to Burnley in the summer
He wanted to be here
Parker wants him
Plymouth would benefit from the cash
Plymouth are very likely to go down, even with him!
It’s best for both parties to DEAL now

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
13 of the 19 goals scored by Whittaker during the season 2023/24 came between 5 August and 1st January when Finn Azaz was at the club with whom he seems to have had a good partnership. The Finn Azaz loan was cancelled by Aston Villa during the first week of January 2024 and he was subsequently sold to Middlesbrough.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 8:53 pmI think had he of left Plymouth in the summer on the back of 19 goals in a struggling team 12m would of looked good value for money but based of this season it looks like we would be over paying
The goals return seemed to tail off when Azaz departed and he has not been anywhere near so prolific this season.

Looking at all the signing the top 4 have made this transfer window I don’t reckon any of them are good enough to play in the premier league.

Is that suggesting Whittaker may be a gem alongside players of similar quality who create space for him? Sounds reassuring. Our build up play doesn’t exactly create space for players. Recently it’s been a lot of very congested spaces and intricate passes which for the most part doesn’t come off.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 12:46 amIs that suggesting Whittaker may be a gem alongside players of similar quality who create space for him? The issue for all sides involved in this promotion/relegation scenario between the top two divisions is whether the player is young enough to improve over a few seasons and increase their value
Signing older players like Barnes and maybe Shelvey are not in that bracket
Whittaker could well improve but not as a central striker which is our main need as of now

They just have to be good enough to get them there.
For the record I think there’s arguably only 3-4 players in the entire league that are good enough for the prem.
