I was offered £450/ day to supply teach Cookery in Selhurst.As this was a 2 hr each way around the M25 I decided against it.
Usual rate in Blackpool near were we live is £150 £175/day

I'm guessing the cost of living there is much higher than Burnley, but is it 68% higher? That would be a better marker. How far does that salary increase take you? Or are you actually worse off living in London despite a higher salary?

The “London’s a s***hole” comments from people on here are as predictable, and baseless, as the “Burnley’s a s***hole” comments we have to listen to from opposition, often Southern, fans. I lived and worked around London for over 35 years and it’s a brilliant place for going out, socialising and experiencing all aspects of life. Of course it’s got its grim areas and people just as Burnley does on a smaller scale. Life is what you make it !
I chose to come back up here because I retired and knew I could achieve a better quality of life because of the economics/cost differences. If I were 21 again I’d have no hesitation about going to London though.

It doesn't have to be all bad if you live on the edge and commute in. Whilst living officially in Croydon borough I'm about 100 yards from the Surrey border with open commons, ancient woods, stables, 2 x golf courses, and a village duck pond all within walking distance. So working in London doesn't have to involve living in Nelson Mandela house and it's a lot more affordable too, relatively speaking.

Nothing will comply compare to the natural beauty of Lancashire but parts of the outer reaches can have much more of a feel of being part of a village, with London somewhere in the commutable distance, rather than being part of a big city.

You couldn't pay me to live within one of the inner boroughs, but there's no reason why you would need to unless you chose to do so.

You never get used to people not talking to you though. It still shocks me after 25 years.It can feel a very lonely place if you're not careful

The main drawbacks for London are its far too busy and the people in general are a bit more superficial than you get in the northern part of the UK.

As for a night out I’d rather go to a Liverpool, Newcastle, Glasgow than London.

I also like the countryside, nature and nice Rural A roads for some fun driving. Don’t get that in London.

That’s my preferences however each person is different.

I’ve lived in London and the South East for 53 years. I love it. Started off living in central London, Gloucester Road Tube area, then moved to Streatham. In 1980 got married and moved to Tolworth/Surbiton (my wife is from Surbiton). Then made a biggish leap to Guildford Surrey and finally to Fleet Hampshire. Where we are now I can drive into London in about 90 minutes park in Kennington, for free after 6pm weekdays but anytime at weekends, just outside the congestion zone and get the northern line tube to pretty much everywhere I want. And so much of the tube runs overnight that on Fridays we can get the tube to Camden go to Crawdaddy (a soul and r&b do) and then get the tube at 2am back to Kennington. We are also about 90 minutes drive from Brighton and all that has to offer. Easy to get to the West Country for weekends etc. But I still love coming home to Padiham. The countryside is fantastic and as my wife never fails to mention the people are so much more friendly than down south. And of course house prices are bonkers here. A basic 4 bed detached in Fleet will likely set you back £650,000. Which brings me onto the cost of living and wages. My evidence, certainly from what I have gleaned from relatives, is that if you have a good job in Burnley then you tend to have more disposable income as the cost of living is generally cheaper.

All nice if you're getting on a bit I'm sure. I'm not ready for slippers and pipes yet however. One of the things I love about Manchester is being able to go to a different restaurant every weekend, have multiple gigs and shows every night of the week for any taste of music, loads of touring shows, theatre, exhibitions etc. I also like being quite "anonymous" - don't have to see the same faces every time I go out. If I want beech trees and fishing and a long walk I can get in the car and drive 30 minutes in any direction and hit countryside.

I definitely think that the close proximity of Burnley to Manchester is one of the reasons we can attract the players we do. Most seem to live in the city or just south in the Cheshire area around Wilmslow. There are some lovely areas around Burnley but I feel that the bright lights of Manchester are the attraction. I personally wouldn't like to live in Manchester and I do have a property right in the centre and I certainly wouldn't want to live in London. It's soulless and so expensive.

To highlight the obscene property prices in parts of London - on a Saturday morning i have a part time job which involves driving around parts of London. I usually start around Stratford/Isle of Dogs/Bow/Bethnal Green areas of East London and there are some grim old places in that area. I finish around Hampstead/St Johns Wood area and there is a street I drive down, Avenue Road. There is a house for sale on that road, the asking price is £30m. The property has planning permission to build another "super mansion" in line with many other properties on that road, so it's £30m to buy the existing house then costs to demolish and build the new place. To give you an idea of the kind of wealth in that area, there was a burglary recently at a 13 bedroom house on that road where jewelery worth £10.4m was stolen.

I live to visit cities but I'd much rather be where I am, but that's only the opinion of someone that's only ever lived in the North. (Although, I'm fairly well travelled)
I'm lucky that I work for a company based in the South, so whilst I'll earn the same as my colleagues my cost of living is a fraction of theirs. I looked at possibly moving closer to the office and simply couldn't afford it, so I'll likely stay put for now. The same house I live in down there would be at least twice the cost.

Personally I love London, its just not for me.

I played golf weekly for ten years while living in Brixton, to be fair.

London is a fantastic city, imo, but it's certainly not worth the rental prices that landlords seem to think are "going rate" nowadays.

I had a flat provided in one of the nicer areas of London until recently and it was very pleasant. The city is fantastic, has got something for everyone (even naysayers on here) but it is exhausting. I was always glad to be heading home for a proper rest and then excited heading in again the week after. I couldn't live there permanently myself but glad I got the opportunity to experience it. My missus is less impressed, she hates it. Who knew? People are different and like different things!
