Plymouth fans on facebook are apparently suggesting that Whittaker is refusing to play tonight.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
100% clear the player sees us as a huge step forward in his career, financially and professionally. Why shouldn’t he? He would also be closer to his home town of Derby, don’t know where his wider family now live.
Very awkward one for him tonight, and for them.
Could backfire on us though if the rest get fired up. Let’s hope not.
One things for sure, I expect to see a different player to earlier this season when he finally pulls on the claret and blue.

If he does refuse to play, before he is vilified far and wide, worth remembering that he will more than likely be following his agents instruction.

Don’t quite recall that however Blakey was Glen Little, I think at Barnsley on Boxing Day 2000 Little came on as a sub and Stan took him off a few minutes later. Following the game that was when Stan came out said Christmas was cancelled as the players had already had enough plum duff.kenyon6923 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 4:21 pmDo I remember correctly that stan brought Blakey on as a sub (early when we bought him because he had a injury/or was getting fit) and re-subbed him (was definitely at turf Moor) - anyone else recall it ?

Which is also no different to what Tarkowski did before signing for us. It happens all the time, even with our own players that wanted to leave after relegationPremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 6:00 pmIf he does refuse to play, before he is vilified far and wide, worth remembering that he will more than likely be following his agents instruction.

I'd rather have the latter of those two options.Guitargeorge wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 5:30 pmIf Whittaker starts and scores against the meanest defence in Europe, then he’s worth having. If he doesn’t try, then that’s because he doesn’t want to knock back the club he is about to join. All positive.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Their managers comments suggest that no deal is agreed yet with anyone and it’s just Whittaker refused to play.
Parker’s interview after the game seemed to suggest he wanted more than 1 incoming but also understood that players need to leave to get some game time

After Scotts interview I'm not even sure he's particularly concerned about if we can get any more options through the door regarding the attacking side of the team. I suspect IF someone becomes available that fits his requirements we'd take a look but I'm not overly sure the Whittaker deal is anywhere near as close as we may think................I could and probably am completely wide of the mark 🫣

Is this confirmed now? Last I heard he was “deciding”. I’m surprised he’s agreed to go to Hull to be honest. I’d have thought he could get a top end championship club.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 10:16 amCharlieTaylor gone on loan to Hull for the rest of the season, a bit of a let down, his move to the Saints hasn't worked out at all.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Reading about Whittaker and how he didn't want to play for Swansea when Rangers were interested in him. I'd prefer us to steer well clear. Consensus in the press is that 'Boro are favourites to get him anyway.
This from Jan 2023 (Daily Record):
"Morgan Whittaker will remain a Swansea City player unless Rangers can get even close to the English Championship club's valuation.
The attacker is a target for Michael Beale and City boss Martin had said before their 1-1 draw against QPR that Whittaker would be involved amid the transfer talk. But a decision to leave him out of their squad at Loftus Road was taken after it was deemed the talent who shone on loan at Plymouth at the start of the season wasn't in the right head space.
Martin, according to BBC Wales, said that he was disappointed Whittaker couldn't be involved but "expects him to stay at the club as Swansea and Rangers are still apart in their valuations." The Swans boss explained: "Nothing has changed. We have not received any new bids and nothing has changed except for Morgan's frame of mind. We had agreed he was going to be in the squad and then Morgan told me just after my press conference on Friday that he wasn't in the right frame of mind to be in the squad or to travel."

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Buying players who may not want to play for us in the future, that’s what we do, isn’t it
Seriously, I reckon Parker is just being coy, I’m fully expecting this deal to be done this week, and as for Whittaker, more likely is they had a bust up and he is trying to force their hand, let’s not forget they refused to sell him in the last window too and the player is probably on low wages, I can understand him feeling desperate. Never did Tarky much harm, with us or for himself.

It would not be the biggest surprise if Whittaker chose to move to Middlesbrough where he would once again link up with Finn Azaz. Whittaker’s most productive scoring spell at Plymouth was during a period when Finn Azaz was at the club on loan from Aston Villa.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I got the same feeling.
I really do hope us being good for 45min and scoring 5 against a very poor side doesn't paper over cracks that are there in front end of pitch.
Although what I woukd say is, the quality of balls in last night was far better and gave us chance to make first contact t which is partly what we have been missing.
Most of our cross's are either cleared first man or over everyone/into keeper.

Sunderland allegedly after Chuba Akpom.
He’s 29 now and has probably flattered to deceive. Had one very good season at Boro that got him a move to Ajax, but largely had a very average career.

Only way we could make a contract offer is if we had agreed a fee with WBA for a transfer this month….of course in reality agents talk and verbally agree things before transfer fees are in place but let’s not go there .

Another player who can't score a penalty against us.
If we meet Sunderland in the play off final and it goes to penalties, we're laughing.

This story about Ayman Kari seems to suggest that he's not really keen on the idea of move to a club like Burnley.
Suggestion that he was hanging on for a signing on fee when he's on a free in the summer.
