Not listened to the podcast yet, but unless they made it out to be akin to our 0-6 v Hereford or similar, then this game, especially the second half was every bit as bad. I cannot understand the logic of our keeper in possession of the ball passing to Roberts to CJ to Esteve to CJ to Esteve then back to Trafford while the opposition get into position. Then inching forward rolling the ball with the bottom of his boot to try and entice a forward to close him down. But they don't and eventually after what seems an age, either repeat the full back to centre half pantomime or launch the ball in the direction of the giant Cooper to win in the air. We were clueless in the second half, make no mistake about that.Hibsclaret wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2024 9:36 amI don’t, however, think it was as bad as made out in the podcast and Millwall away is never a game where you judge a season.

I love the podcast but I do feel they all play it safe and never really commit to anything just in case, a lot of skirting around the edges and not too often getting to the point of the debate. Not one of them admitted what a lot are thinking that maybe just maybe Scotty is not the right man for the job............I think he's lacking that killer instinct and it's finally rubbed off on his players.
Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
I guess tonight should be a good yardstick for that with Leeds away at Millwall.Hibsclaret wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2024 9:36 amJust listened to this and I think the focus on the fact that we should have beaten Millwall was over egged. It is never an easy game and in fact we didn’t win there under VK late in the 101 point season. By all means focus on the lack of creation and low xg etc but to suggest it is an easy game that we should be winning is misguided. I remember a game there under Dyche that we drew too. They were on an unbeaten run too and are clearly a difficult team to beat.
I actually think Parker needed to make a change at halftime given how they had got on top after the linesman change. We certainly needed to start the second half as we did the first so I think he was tactically at fault there. I don’t, however, think it was as bad as made out in the podcast and Millwall away is never a game where you judge a season.

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
It’s not about being right just because of another result. Anyone that knows anything about football in this country knows that Millwall away is a tough game. My point was that the podcast suggested that we should be winning there when we have rarely done that even with much better teams (on paper and in terms of our league position) than Millwall.

Everyone is getting this so wrong…. It wasn’t the result against Millwall (or Oxford, or Preston, or QPR etc etc) that was the issue - it was the performance, the negative/conservative tactics and the fact we never really trouble the opposition keeper. Had we gone to Millwall and had a real go but got beat it would have been far easier to accept.
Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Absolutely spot on. We're Burnley fans, we can deal with losing... it's happened a lot over the years!! The manner of the defeats is the problem. I'm going tonight so I hope there's a significant uplift in the effort and application of the team. SP needs to take the handbrake off and allow the players to express themselves more. We seem frightened to death of getting the ball in the box!Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 10:19 pmEveryone is getting this so wrong…. Maybe it's not what a lot are thinking.... maybe it's what a vocal few are thinking. We're Burnley, we give managers time - it's been a key part of our journey over the last 35 years or so. When Stan was under pressure, he got time, we got results. When Dyche was under pressure in the first season, he got time, we got results. We're not a cycle through managers, and all the associated drag it brings - cost of replacements, bloated playing staff with players the manager doesn't want, instability in ways of working for the club..... and long may that continue, especially with a manager moulding a new squad, and who has lost 1 of the last 10 games. And i don't care what Fulham and Bournemouth fans say - Bournemouth fans thought Eddie Howe was fantastic, and broadly he was a load of shite here.louieollie wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2024 1:51 pmI love the podcast but I do feel they all play it safe and never really commit to anything just in case, a lot of skirting around the edges and not too often getting to the point of the debate. I thought initially with a runtime of 80 minutes this week we were going to have a 12" extended mix rant and swear laden extravaganza
Unfortunately though the runtime is around 40 minutes and the rest is dead air

Big difference though, we hadn't just dropped out of the PL having spent the GDP of a small country. We don't know at this point how desperate ALK need us to be back there because of the finances - if it's a case of it has to be this season then we will need to see more output from this team, I doubt we will spend much at all in January because of the size of the squad - and it's still a very good squad at this level.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 9:03 amWhen Dyche was under pressure in the first season, he got time, we got results.

Great idea to make up for the absence of a few team members by having one of the podders record from BBC Radio’s sound props department.
We had tapping keys, creaking floorboards, baby toys and mobile phones going off.
Very atmospheric pod. Well done.

Funnily enough, we have just switched over a few production things and you should find that the pod is out overnight UK time - so even if you went for a quick jog at 5am you should find the pod there

Darren has added to the podcast. He speaks well and shares some good opinions - most of which I tend to agree with. He’s a fan like we all are but he can also has some great insight and stories about when he worked for the club.

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
I think Daz has been a decent addition. I listend to the one with Vizeh on whilst I was flying on a small plane between safari sites in Kenya - i felt I wanted to jump out without a parachute about half way through..... and we'd just won 5-0 as well. It's good that it's a bit more uplifting recently, even the positive weeks were getting hammered by some of the squad.
Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Darren is a good bloke and always sorted my mum out with accessible seats (often in the hospitality section) when she was terminally ill. He didn't have to but he always saw her right. Talks a lot of sense on the pod too.

Tended to listen to Turfcast more of late, but still listen to this.
Appreciate it’s the generation/reference points of most of the panel, but the constant harping back to Ternent, Cotterill and Dyche grates after a while. I don’t need every current situation compared to something historic.
Will listen to this on my way to Preston tomorrow, but Bentley just added to that harping on about the past I felt. Hopefully there’s a bit less of that in this episode.

I could spend half an hour searching the individual files to find the culprit but I thought I would ask AI who the guilty party was likely to be:
"Paul Woodhouse is the most likely to have made the fart sound. His regular presence, relaxed persona, and potential for humor align with an intentional prank, while his mic time supports an accidental slip. Andrew Greaves, as host, is less likely to be the source; Chris Boden seems too measured; and Darren Bentley’s guest status makes him less probable unless he’s confirmed present and acting out of character.
Final Answer: Paul Woodhouse."

Thought the post Preston Cup episode was a bit of an echo chamber. Someone (just to be Devil’s Advocate) has to at least point out that it’s a pretty pointless competition, that we still would have been hard pressed to beat a good Prem side in the 1/4’s and is a distraction for our run in. Spark some debate about the real value of the FA Cup and how Burnley have treated it. Instead we just got foul mouth tirades from armchair fans slagging off the club.

Fair comment. We decided a while ago to do honest, genuine opinions rather then have devil's advocate - but that episode was a good example of why you do sometimes need to go that route.claret wizard wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 7:48 pmThought the post Preston Cup episode was a bit of an echo chamber. Don't agree when they compare Gnonto and James to Edwards.
Edwards is the far better player. Clear premier league quality.
Those two are probably peak struggling premier league/top championship players.
Only a matter of time now until we overtake them, Sheffield United probably will too!
