Home & Away

Post by Devils_Advocate » Thu Jan 23, 2025 12:51 pm

I expect that some of the stato's on here have noticed that our away form is better than our home form this season and they will also know that its normally the other way around. Got me thinking what was the reason for this and the obvious answer seems to be the fans

In terms of numbers our away support is poor but the ones who do go are brilliant and really get behind the team. Contrast that to the fans who go on at home where there is little effort to create an atmosphere and if things arent going well they can get on the players backs putting pressure on them

As an armchair fan I think Im in a good position to judge this and I think the fans who only go on at home need to do a bit of self reflection and try to be better and start getting behind the team because if one thing is going to stop us getting promoted I think this is it.

I know some people will find it hard to face these facts and might get a little defensive but just have a think and take some accountability for the role you can play in helping the team at Turf Moor

Or teams come to Burnley, sit deep and only try to hit us on the break. We lack the ability to create chances against most deep sitting teams. When we play away, the onus is on the home team to at least try some semblance of attacking football which leaves gaps at the back, which we can exploit.

Actually, I think that those watching from home (wherever we are playing) need to shout at their TV, louder. It’s the only way.

DA, your dedication to your 'bit' on here is admirable. I mean, it probably peaked about 4 or 5 years ago and there's no real joy in it anymore, but you keep plugging away still.

I wouldn’t be saying our away support in terms of numbers is poor………I’d say it’s still pretty good against clubs of comparable size……..

But yer right, it’s usually good fun travelling and getting a bit more behind the team…….

Some teams haven't even bothered with the "try to hit us on the break" bit.

Oxford didn't even bother with the "try harder to be more attacking at home" bit.

The OPs 'obvious answer' could actually be just a very small part of the cause. More likely reasons are explained as the thread progresses. Also not many will find it hard to face the 'facts' because they are actually no more than opinions.
For what it's worth I think poor atmosphere is caused by the type of football not the other way round.

Getting your kicks on a Burnley message board is a bit odd

The only surprising part of this is that some people have taken the OP as a serious post.

Not sure just how he can describe our away support as 'poor' , when he's probably never even been to an away game?

What’s wrong with you all?

Don’t you look at the name before deciding whether it’s worth responding to?

Come on people, read the OP again. Surely you can see it’s yet more of the usual “clickbait”?

In the German 2nd league. Their league leaders haven't won a single home game yet. Bonkers.

Good work again DA.

Tongue in cheek, satirical sarcasm with a hint of truth.

Our away support is generally very good, and noisey. I believe numbers dipped a little before Christmas, when people are skint. For example a few of us had planned to go to Stoke but didn't as we just couldn't afford. I would expect nearly all away league games between now and the end of the season to be a sell out.

On the home support, it just feels a little but like the crowd feel entitled / expectant to win. We aren't playing ultra sexy football and the pace of the play (apart from Watford at home) makes it hard to get really going and excited. I am a ST holder in the CFS and at times apart from the odd shout it is really flat. This needs to change, certainly against DL.

- This isn't a dig at Parker, I am really impressed by him, and am feeling quite sure he will take us up automatically.
