Would be a pretty strange signing given we have just signed shelvey and we are pretty well stocked in this area.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
From distant memory they weren’t a partnership as such. Just two players in the form of their lives. Most of Whittakers goals seemed to be rockets from outside the box.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 12:52 pmIt would not be the biggest surprise if Whittaker chose to move to Middlesbrough where he would once again link up with Finn Azaz. Whittaker’s most productive scoring spell at Plymouth was during a period when Finn Azaz was at the club on loan from Aston Villa.

Not really strange if you think there’s a future talent available for 750k you sign him and then loan him to DundeeNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 10:09 pmWould be a pretty strange signing given we have just signed shelvey and we are pretty well stocked in this area.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Apparently the PSG coach Luis Enrique was disappointed when he came back in poor shape after the summer. He's not played any 1st team football since. He's in a position to sign a pre-contract with teams from other countries since the turn of the year. Apparently Seville are interested too. Not sure he'd be up for playing for Dundee.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 10:38 pmNot really strange if you think there’s a future talent available for 750k you sign him and then loan him to Dundee
It does sound like he's a player who could be signed for much less than his market value due to his contract situation.

Unless he’s good enough for our first team, I’m not sure I see the point.
He’d just be a blocker to the likes of Bauress and McDermott.

Obligatory youtube highlights from last season. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8hIVGl9Nzg
There was another discussing how he'd got fat over the summer eating kebabs on a daily basis but I didn't link that

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Brownhill may well be on the move in the summer, Shelvey may not stay on and Laurent is no spring chicken either, so if this lad has quality then get him in for that price .

This PSG lad is only a bit older than the two kids who played at Reading, so if he is quite a bit better, with a good pedigree (France U20) it feels a no brainer. It is a ruthless business, much as we like our academy to do well.

Le Bris managed him at Lorient. You’d think they’d be in for him.

NO…he was crap for the Whitecaps last year. I live in Vancouver. Too old and washed.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 4:10 pmImo Amstrong we were linked with last week would be a very good addition

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Yeah but our performances through the season strongly suggest we need an additional creative outlet that prefers the right side. If we wanted Whittaker and have missed out to Boro, that would undoubtedly be a blow.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 10:50 amThe way Anthony played the other night suggests we don't need Whittaker
I can't say I've got a strong view either way on Whittaker- he's had one exceptional season either side of a less impressive record and he certainly wasn't that impressive at Burnley earlier this season. But if he's the man Parker wanted, and we don't land him, that would be a blow.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I think the argument is that Anthony is just filling in a role on the right wing (preferred side is the left).boatshed bill wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 10:50 amThe way Anthony played the other night suggests we don't need Whittaker
If we sign a right winger we can move Anthony back to the left.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Whittaker’s antics the other night stank, in my view, added to his lazy style on the pitch a major red flag.

Anthony has been way better on the right for us all season, despite what he may prefer!Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 10:57 amI think the argument is that Anthony is just filling in a role on the right wing (preferred side is the left).

If we didn't sign Whittaker in the summer and aren't signing him now when Boro have had £6 million accepted, we didn't want him that much.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I’m not sure i agree to be honest. I think the quality of his final ball has been considerably worse off the right.
Stats wise:
Right winger - 13 apps 2 goals no assists
Left winger - 9 apps 1 goal 3 assists
Not much between it stats wise but I thought he has had his best games off the left
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Adel Taraabt available on a free. Looking at his stats he seems to still be playing well. That would be an interesting way to solve the lack of creativity.

Interesting. We weren’t that keen then or have found a better option.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 10:57 amLooks like Whittaker is at Boro having a medical
Suspect he’ll do very well for them and their open style. Not convinced he’s what we need at all.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I wasn't oversold on Whittaker. I'm not sure the club was either or I think we would have snapped this one up after the interest in the summer.
I'm still expecting a player to come in who will add to our creativity. I saw another article on Benrahma wanting to leave the other day. He's still the one I have my eye on.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
For me it’s as simple as I think he might’ve helped us score some wonder goals but not really help us with our creativity issue.FeedTheArf wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 11:04 amMay eat some humble pie in years to come, but think this is a massive bullet dodged!
I think he might’ve helped us go up, so I wouldn’t have been massively against signing him, but I’m not convinced he’d be what we needed if we got up - particularly from what I’ve seen and heard about his work rate.
So not too fussed but expect he’ll do well for Boro and everyone on here will have a meltdown every time he scores, forgetting the bigger picture.

Seems a good price for a player like him.
I hope we've just moved on to someone better...

Whittaker medical at Boro today apparently, being reported by the BBC now so got to be believed.. Makes you wonder if Pace made the trip all the way to Plymouth on Wednesday to try to convince him.

I wasn’t bothered about Whittaker either way, but after his antics on Wednesday night, I’m pleased we’re no longer in for him.
We’ve had our fill of prima donna’s over the last 12 months.

I'd be quite happy if that were the case. Hopefully Pace is learning that only players who really want to be here are worth buying.

Dunno? Maybe Pace failed to convince him? Maybe he's asking too much in wages? Could be half a dozen different reasons I guess. I don't see Pace making that sort of journey just to watch us play the bottom of the league team.

I'm more than happy with the Whittaker debacle to be honest, like others his antics on Wednesday and by all accounts he has previous for doing the same so I honestly don't think we need THAT clear lack of commitment from the off. He has offered nothing at this level anyway and I do believe we've already got better options than are fully committed in the club now ........Turrah to another bad egg

As I stated previously Whittaker fancies a longer spell in the Championship as Boro are going to be in it for a long tome yet
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
The fact he'd done it before with Swansea and he's done it again didn't sit well with me.
