Used to live in Barlick.

It is in Lancashire but the majority of the population want to be in Yorkshire.

But why, is it historical ancestery and a sense of belonging?

No, its because your property is worth much more in North Yarkshire, that's why they've been battling to get the boundaries changed for years.

Rubbish.

Yes I am, and do live in Yorkshire, but I did spend a few years in Lancashire, as mentioned, in Barnoldswick.

Apparently, it is the largest town in England without an A road going through it. I believe this was part of the reason they had the Rolls-Royce factory there during WWII.

Rolls Royce took over Rover's Gas Turbine factory in 1943, after the production of Merlin engines was disrupted after repeated bombing of it's Solihull factory. Initial development work and production of the Whittle jet engine took place there, although some of the development took place at Waterloo Mill, in Clitheroe. ( the mill has been demolished, but was roughly opposite the entrance to Clitheroe's Tesco ).

Both Clitheroe and Bar'lick were rural towns in valleys, away from major industrial centres and reference points, making them hard to find and destroy from the air ...

Why did the numpties in charge of Lancashire at the time, allow us to swap Barlick and Earby for two major footballing cities?

Worst trade ever.

Yes! The moaning anaemic rosers can have Barlick back when we get Manchester and Liverpool back.
