January Transfer Window Rumours
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
One of the reasons that the January window is difficult, particularly when in the mix for promotion.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 2:51 pmI don't think the building blocks will be put into motion quite yet until it's assured we've got there. It's far more prudent exercising caution. The calibre of players identified & needed would be unlikely to move anyway on a chance unless it's guaranteed.
On one hand, I agree that an element of caution is needed. On the other, if you want to bring players in permanently, we need to have an eye on both scenarios.
No point offering permanent deals to players that are good enough to aid promotion, but not suitable should we actually win promotion.

Like Obafemi for example! Was even worse because it looked obvious to everyone we were going up that year, even in January.

Those stats are the reason that Haji Wright was 5th in the betting at the start of the season to be the Championship top goal scorer. An ankle injury early in the season curtailed his progress and, as I understand it, is not yet back in full training on the grass.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 5:56 pmNot a transfer rumour but would anyone take H Wright from Coventry.

I agree it's a fine balancing act. If you are transparent with your approaches & intentions you can then avoid misunderstandings resulting in disappointment.DCWat wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 3:00 pmOne of the reasons that the January window is difficult, particularly when in the mix for promotion.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Just been on Sheff U message board, and they are disappointed that Jimmy Dunne played today, as it probably means they aren't in for him.
They are desperate for some centre halves, and Jimmy's doing a great job, in a QPR team that has been on a roll until today.
As much as I like to see ex Clarets succeed, I wouldn't like him to succeed at Blades.

Just to kickstart this thread again, Ipswich showing interest in Behnrama. Have we also enquired about him. Ipswichs influx of players has been huge since Summer
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
And they’ve just brought in Enciso, too. Quite a few players not getting much game time. I would take Ogbene and Broadhead in a heartbeat. Broadhead had 13 goals last year in the Championship.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2025 10:18 amJust to kickstart this thread again, Ipswich showing interest in Behnrama. Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
It does seem very quiet for rumours. At this stage I dont see the point unless they're bringing a clear increase in quality. We added some knowhow this window so maybe that will be enough.
It's possible we're content to wait for Benson and Ramsey. They can't be too far away from some games in the Academy team with their videos intimating they're well along the way. We can't expect them to be in the 11 for a while, but to even have them fit enough for the bench would be a significant boost in the short term.
Tresor, who knows what the hell is happening with him fitness wise, however, he's still here. As it stands, you'd also have to hope he can sort himself out and contribute.
Not seen any suggestions that he's going anywhere, yet.

I think Ogbene is out for the season. He got an achilles injury early on.

Getting down to the last few days of the window now where things start to go a bit crazy, I do think that Pace and Parker will have one lined up that hasn’t been made public yet. Let’s wait and see what happens .

Equally I’d like to see Redmond make his way in to the squad and give us his all till the end of the season. We all know the score with Tresor but I still think he will go to Europe on loan.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Im surprised Tresor is not gone already. A quiet transfer window so far. But with Ramsey Benson Redmond Beyer in the wings we dont really need much more. Maybe a striker in a perfect world.Hedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2025 4:42 pmI’d love to see CJ get a new deal he deserves it.

Seems like the manager knew he was definitely going to either ourselves or Boro and for whatever reason was not prepared to say that after the game

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I was hoping Redmond would be the one to come back to fitness and show us the quality which he certainly used to have, wether he’s up to it now is another story.
Beyer won’t feature at all for sure.
Benson is doubtful he’s made of paper, so you can’t hang your hat on him.
Ramsey has had a serious injury and even if he was close, would need to be watched very carefully.
We also have Agyei who is still very raw but if these options aren’t available then another wide player (left footed) would be my request

I fear we won’t see any of those players mentioned this season. If we go up I don’t think we will see any of them next season either.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I'll take Whittaker's post at face value as it seems pretty heartfelt tbf. Therefore it looks like the manager was smarting (understandably!) after a 5-0 home thrashing and was doing some serious deflecting and looking for a scapegoat.

Could be that Benson and Redmond are closing in on a comeback and/or that Tresor is up to speed and staying?Hedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2025 5:28 pmI’m hoping we have found someone else who we preferred ?
The next few days will give some answers, including the team picked against DL.

aside from a few minutes from Benson, non of them have featured all season and we are almost in February. I’d be very surprised if Beyer kicked a ball this season at all, Redmond hasn’t played consistent football in 2 years, Ramsey will likely be miles off it for a while too.

There’s only two real explanations; that we’re skint and couldn’t afford him when Boro came in with an increased offer, or someone we prefer for that position has become available.
Given the payments are spread over many years we’re probably talking £500k or something additionally required this window, so I can’t really see it being a money thing.
Suppose there’s a third explanation that he just turned us down when Boro came in, which would seem a bit off with our respective points tally’s.

Whittaker not worth any where near £8m.
Forget Tresor , not worth discussing.
We are doing OK, Shelvey will make a difference. Just need a forward player to strengthen.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Sorry to add to the off topic but we have 25 squad places on offer and this affects who plays and who we need. I reckon we go with:
1 James Trafford (G)
32 Vaclav Hladky (G)
2 Oliver Sonne (D)
4 Joe Worrall (D)
5 Maxime Esteve (D)
6 CJ Egan-Riley (D)
12 Bashir Humphreys (D)
14 Connor Roberts (D)
16 John Egan (D)
23 Lucas Pires (D)
7 Jeremy Sarmiento (M)
8 Josh Brownhill (M)
11 Jaidon Anthony (M)
17 Lyle Foster (M)
21 Aaron Ramsey (M)
24 Josh Cullen (M)
26 Jonjo Shelvey (M)
28 Hannibal Mejbri (M)
29 Josh Laurent (M)
30 Luca Koleosho (M)
35 Ashley Barnes (M)
9 Jay Rodriguez (F)
10 Manuel Benson (F)
19 Zian Flemming (F)
Which leaves room for one player, a new signing. If we leave out Benson it is two. If we leave out Ramsey and Benson, it is three. If we (amazingly) put in Magic Mike, it is one less the other way and if included no room for anyone new.
Notice there are few forwards on that list. Soccerbase has Foster as a midfielder, accurately at the mo. I think we will sign one forward and nothing else.
Someone cleverer than I may point out that in that list there is someone who doesn’t count in the 25, so please advise if so.
