Semi final at Ewood

Just seen this on Twitter.

We played Liverpool at Ewood in a Semi final in 1947.
How many fans would we have taken and did we win?

Has Turf Moor ever hosted a semi final for neutrals or even a neutral game of Importance?

As you probably know we reached the final that season, but we didn't win at Ewood, It was a 0-0 draw, and we then won the replay at Maine Rd..
As for the attendance I would have to "google" it, but they would both be massive I would imagine.

Details as far as crowd numbers are on here and there were 53000 at Ewood and 72000 at Liverpool, however, I can't say how many Clarets attended.
Harrison scored the winner in the 79th minute.

Leisure ran 24 coaches that day I’m told.

Yes, huge attendances, and it will probably surprise many on here to learn that for the replay it was most likely pay on the gate. (That was the usual practice for replays in those days.)

Slightly unrelated, but going back to having semi finals at neutral grounds (and not Wembley) would be so much better

Be great to have a ground chosen halfway ish between the 2 clubs. There are plenty of grounds available - 10 English ground above 40,000 that aren't wembley

I also dont know why league Cup semi is still 2 legs. I'd also have at a neutral ground, play one leg, and get it done and dusted

Noooooo the League Cup is fantastic. Night games, doesn’t feel like is disrupts the league and those semi finals are perfect. So much better than the FA Cup.

I think Turf Moor hosted a fav s/f in the 1920’s. Sheff Utd rings a bell as one of the teams playing but could be way wrong. We also hosted an England v Wales full international game

My Dad was at the replay and when we scored his mate yelled "goal" and his top set false teeth fell to the ground causing some consternation as he tried to find them amongst the crowd.

Weirdly I did exactly this at Carlisle back in the mid 70s. It was Carlisle's only foray into the top flight and although they were relegated at the end of their only season, they actually beat us 4-2 up there. During the game we were awarded a penalty and as people jumped about to celebrate my false teeth were knocked out and went onto the terrace. I was on the floor scrambling around trying to find them which was extremely difficult as my hands were being trampled and it was a night match and we were housed under a shed on the side which was very dark! I eventually picked them up covered in crap and reinserted them just in time to see James (I think?) tuck the penalty away. Cue more celebrations with me covering my face with one hand just in case!!!

1921/22 when Huddersfield beat Notts County 3-1.

I know it is not going to happen, but if we had to play rovers in the playoff final, would it be moved to somewhere like the eithad or old trafford?

Very true, however, she was a Rovers fan and had no interest in the Clarets playing in a semi-final and my dad couldn't have given me the top up :D
