You are incorrect. The only factual element is they have strengthened and we have not.
I do apologise, I thought that it was FACT that Sheffield United had a 2 point deduction at the start of the season.

I also thought it was FACT that we had brought in Shelvey, Barnes and Sonne to strengthen the squad.

I also thought it ws FACT that the window is open until Monday 3rd February and therefore still allowing us to bring someone in.

I am obviously incorrect as you have alluded.

To get to the end of January and still have these three unavailable is farcical at best.
Desperately disappointing, deeply unfortunate… I can understand but farcical?

We are desperate for a winger who can take a man on and a proper number 9.
What we also need is a change in mentality.

The obsession with Sheffield Unite I suppose is understandable considering our similar circumstances.

It is impossible to compare and contrast teams/squads, and assess who has the strongest as it is all hypothethetical.

The one factual element in our favour remains.

If we do our job and achieve two points per game and a total of 92 points then Sheffield need to accrue 94 points, due to their 2 point deduction, in fact due to their goal difference taking a recent hammering that will now be 95 points.

Its a long season and that 2 point deduction and an inferior GD means they require three more points, which they are currently managing but a big ask, especially with a small squad over a full season.

The higher points total we can achieve puts major pressure on them and its feasible that they may have to get close to the 100 point mark just to finish second.

On the other we’ve taken 4 points off Leeds, 3 off Sheff Utd (Home to come), who started 2 points behind us and yet we still find ourselves trailing both.

Shows we’ve dropped too many points against the poorer sides and looking at our run in, things don’t look very good.

And to think we were getting relegated a week before the last transfer window shut.

Yes, farcical. The fact we have had so many long term injuries needs to be looked at.

Players are human beings, with bodies that occasionally break when put under extreme pressure and take time to repair.

Are you suggesting that there is some medical practice that the club is ignoring that could get players fit again sooner? Or maybe we should sign a footballing equivalent of RoboCop that engineers could repair when necessary?

Agreed but not getting a proper striker is like not renewing your car insurance because of your no claims history being good. Getting in several good players where needed is insurance for me of improving auto promotion. We simply need to have the personnel of getting 3 points against the likes of Derby, Oxford, Preston

The obvious answer is at least 1 loan preferably a poacher. Ideally a winger as well.

No I’m not suggesting that and you know I’m not. What I’m saying is the number of long term injures seem high so why not have a look at the area of fitness and preparation to see if there’s a link? If so, it’s not likely to be from this management.

Maybe, and maybe I’m only noticing it because it’s happening to us. There may be no link at all but it does feel like good players just disappear into the abyss here recently.

How is Shelvey supposed to get match fit when he’s not playing any u23 matches or making our bench?

These days most big clubs train with near match intensity at times, especially when no midweek game, able to put 22 players on a pitch of similar ability. I’m not concerned about U23 matches, they are likely easier than training against Premier League players.

All gone quiet on incomings, but I have not given up on a stella signing. Maybe more surprising is that several players are still with us and not loaned or sold-Redmond, Tresor, Sambo. Virtually zero match time this season across all three (appreciate Redmond has been injured), not likely to be playing in next 17 games. Our wage bill must be worrying the club when you consider the regular starting 11 is predominantly made up of about 16/17 players

He's an average championship winger, if we are solely relying on him something has gone tits up

After listening to SP in his Portsmouth press conference, I think this thread can be closed down..Reading between thei lines it seems highly unlikely we'll be adding to our squad..

Based on the fact that there are only 4 days left, I interpreted it that we're not adding to the squad unless the player dramatically improves us, quite rightly so of course.

I also sensed that we're not really actively looking unless a move from maybe another club, sparks a little chain of events and somebody becomes available.

I can't remember how he worded it, but SP also poured cold water on some rumours too,.I'd have thought the Tella one may have been his reference on that one.

My personal options of course, and hopefully I'm proved totally incorrect and we can find the final jigsaw piece..UTC

You have to assume Mr Pace would be happy being in the play-offs if it remains quiet, as I suspect the majority of fans are 50/50 whether we get auto promotion, or a play-offs, particularly with Sheff Utd's incomings.

I’m less concerned by Sheff United’s signings, although I do think that they’ve recruited pretty well during this and the last window. I’m always unconvinced by Wilder and wouldn’t be surprised to see the latest round of additions causing a little unrest.

My concern is our inability, to date, to create opportunities and profit from them, particularly at home.

On paper, our run in is favourable, in practice, without additions (and potentially a tactical shift) we risk a continuation of drawn home games. I really wouldn’t fancy the lottery of the play offs.

Agree. Can't think we have any money left to spend anyway after the blow out in Summer of 23.

We need to be far more adventurous at home. This includes letting Roberts loose, the back line much further up the pitch, Foster up top with Flemming behind him and Shelvey in for Laurent. I'd also play Brownhill wide left tucking in as well, with Pires at left back.

Judging my the chances we create and score especially at home it would suggest we need more than just a tweak of style and service.

The more players Blades sign the better imo....especially if Wilder is daft enough to put them straight into a starting 11.

If Parker feels his current crop are "running through brick walls" for him then he needs to preserve that mentality rather than undermine it.

I don't think we lack the talent to get automatic...I think the brakes will come off sensibly from hereon in.

I think Parker's got this.

Burnley exploring other options after Hansen knock back
Latest from Sky Sports News' Anthony Joseph:

NEC Nijmegen have knocked back Burnley’s approach for winger Sontje Hansen.

Sky Sports News revealed on Wednesday that the Championship club enquired about taking the 22-year-old on a loan with an obligation to buy for £3.5m.

It’s understood Burnley have now moved on to other targets.

We need to be far more adventurous at home. This includes letting Roberts loose, the back line much further up the pitch, Foster up top with Flemming behind him and Shelvey in for Laurent. I'd also play Brownhill wide left tucking in as well, with Pires at left back.
Many of those players we sold at a profit so I’m not concerned about that affecting us too much. I thought we had also lowered the wage bill by focusing more on younger players,

I do agree though at home. The times we have gone behind we have come back at least to draw each time, so what is there to lose?

Burnley exploring other options after Hansen knock back
Latest from Sky Sports News' Anthony Joseph:

NEC Nijmegen have knocked back Burnley’s approach for winger Sontje Hansen.

Sky Sports News revealed on Wednesday that the Championship club enquired about taking the 22-year-old on a loan with an obligation to buy for £3.5m.

It’s understood Burnley have now moved on to other targets.

Knocked back by NEC Nijmegen. :o

Probably the first time that statement has ever been used on a Burnley message board.

After listening to SP in his Portsmouth press conference, I think this thread can be closed down..Reading between thei lines it seems highly unlikely we'll be adding to our squad..
He’s hardly going to give anything away that might affect any potential deals.

Double dare you to tell barnes he’s not a proper striker to his face (or foster or Jay for that matter) haha

More a case of tweaking style and service than panic buying like Shef Utd.
Foster wouldn't hit you much if your face is the target
