Burnley break Nil Nil record for season

Post by Quickenthetempo » Sat Feb 01, 2025 5:31 pm

The previous holder was Sunderland with 9.

Since we have just gotten 10 now with 16 games left. We should extend our lead to never be caught.

Up the Nil Nil Clarets.

The next record will be the most boring team ever with the least amount of goals

It'll be quite a feat if we go up and have the record number of nil-nils

With 16 games left, if Burnley maintain that form,
That's another five 0-0s.
If they win the rest (11) that's 33points plus five =38
Plus the 58 that gives us 96 points.
Dip below that form and it's the play-offs at best.

Can’t wait to see Trafford with his Golden Gloves.

Muric in the PL will probably receive a bar of soap

Can’t wait for the open top bus parade for most 0-0 draws!

What a team!

Something to be embarrassed by given our team budget in comparison to others at this level.

How long does it go on if all penalty takers have failed to score after 11 men in the play off final?

Should I book extra time off from work…

Perhaps that's why we've got rid of Rodriguez and (allegedly) Brownhill. To stop them spoiling things by scoring penalties.

I’ve heard Pace has loaned the goalposts to Towneley this window, with an obligation to buyback if promoted. They are seen as a waste of parachute money in maintenance for the remaining games.
Rumours are they’re a a waste of paint and we can’t leverage B&Q for some gloss as Alan’s too short to reach the bottom of his long leverage lined pockets and put his own brass in.

More 0-0's than the PNE side from 2022-23 who we all laughed at for never scoring

I think it then goes to the coaching staff, then the physio, then Phil bird , and finally Bertie bee.

Nine 0-0 draws was not a record, and neither is the 10 we currently have.

Not really sure that is relevant

The fact of the matter is that Ryan Lowe got pelters off Preston fans for being ultra conservative, and it ultimately cost him his job.

We are of course really hard to beat, but we have a way bigger budget and better squad.

A club with our resources should be on the front foot a lot more than we have been

Err yes it is, lots of fans are very much disgruntled with our style of play and lack of goals at home. The fact we are tracking certain stats similar to one of the most boring sides in recent times is very much up for discussion.

I've been thinking about why we don't score enough goals to avoid these nil nil matches. I wonder if it is because our attacking front three aren't good enough. Or is it because our midfield isn't good enough at getting the ball forward with pace into dangerous positions? Or is it because the manager doesn't instill any fight or desire into the attacking part of the team? Once we sort these issues out and bring back all of our world-beating injured players (whose names I can't remember), we'll be fine.... Keep the faith.

I'd be interested to know this too. Sunderland certainly had 9 in the 2014/15 season (the first was against us on the Turf).

To put our nil nil draws into context, as far as I can make out there were only 11 such results across the entire 2023/24 Premier League season!

Hopefully the club will put out a commemorative DVD with all the 0-0 games on it and a pile of other merchandise to mark this marvellous achievement.

In terms of 0-0 results in league games only, from what I can find, it appears to be 12, recorded in the 1970-71 season by Tranmere Rovers, who drew 22 games in total. They also had one 0-0 draw in a cup game making it 13 in all competitions.

•Tranmere Rovers 1970/71: 12 (7 home, 5 away)

•Luton Town 1992/93: 10 (6 home, 4 away)
Burnley 2024/25: 10 so far… (6 home, 4 away)

•Aldershot 1971/72: 9
•Carlisle United 1978/79: 9
•Sheffield United 1993/94: 9
•Sunderland 2014/15: 9

•Chester City 1977/78: 8
•Halifax Town 1981/82: 8
•Exeter City 1986/87: 8
•Cardiff City 1997/98: 8
•Scunthorpe United 2011/12: 8
….

There could be a few more with 8. I only added those as I found them when searching for those with 10+.
