In fact, it was mentioned, there maybe a third?

He's not as good a player as any of those three on paper (leaving aside their obvious injury and other circumstances currently) and I'm not sure he's made a compelling case to remain part of the match day squad. His performances since the turn of the year have been pretty underwhelming unfortunately, and with Benson and Koleosho also around the squad and Edwards hopefully arriving, you can see a case for terminating his loan if Brighton are open to that.
As for Adebayo, there was a suggestion that we were interested in him in the summer. I'm not sure he's ideally what we need right now (I think someone nimbler would fit what we're trying to do around the box better) but on the point about chances, I think Alex Ferguson once said of Andy Cole that his greatest attribute was that he had the instinct and mentality to get into the positions to miss easy chances, because it the fact he missed it meant he had the goalscorer's knack in the first place and the bravery to keep risking missing - and eventually luck will change.
Surely I can't be alone in thinking it would be better to part with Redmond, and if possible Tresor, rather than Sarmiento.

It’s a loan slot we'd need to free up, redmond and tresor are our players

Spot on Redmond and Tressor have been poor signings and I am afraid we are stuck with them as we have only 1 day to shift them. Redmond was allegedly wanted by Birmingham but it doesn't seem to be happening
Jeremy Sarmiento is a talent who almost singlehandedly got Ipswich promoted with his match winning goals and he can do the same for us

You taking the Michael? He scored 3 goals in 20 appearances, currently at 2 in 20 for us! Flattered to deceive for me. But might look half decent in a team playing footy leeds?Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2025 8:43 pmSpot on Redmond and Tressor have been poor signings and I am afraid we are stuck with them as we have only 1 day to shift them. If that had really been the case then I think Ipswich would have tried harder to get him again, whether on loan or permanent for this season. To my mind he rather flatters to deceive.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2025 8:43 pmJeremy Sarmiento is a talent who almost singlehandedly got Ipswich promoted with his match winning goals and he can do the same for us

How many loans did we have in our recently promoted squad? And where did it leave us the following season?

Tella deal, if not already discarded, can now be ruled out as he came off injured in the first half of Leverkusen's match today.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Where has it been mentioned that there was 2 medicals?
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
You asked where it left us. It left us promoted - they were instrumental in that - so objective achieved. If we signed a loan player or two now to achieve the same, but they return in the summer or move elsewhere, it would be a success. Like it was last time.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2025 8:56 pmNo, the loans that got us promoted. I'd reference probably our best players: Maatsen and Tella who were instrumental in getting us promoted but who we couldn't hang on to.

How do you come to the conclusion that Redmond has been a poor signing? Because he’s been injured?Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2025 8:43 pmSpot on Redmond and Tressor have been poor signings and I am afraid we are stuck with them as we have only 1 day to shift them. If he’s fit, he’s a level above most of our other wide players and should be a step up at Championship level.

OK, if you want to see it that way.
the problem is one of trying to quickly replace quality loanees after promotion, it's proven to be difficult.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I see promotion as the primary objective. We then focus on the squad for next season if that is achieved. I think most people would see it that way.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2025 9:04 pmOK, if you want to see it that way.

Why would a BBC journalist who happens to be a Burnley fan be on the case?
I know she said something about talks happening a few days ago, but she also added she wouldn’t bet her house on it happening either.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Agreed, but they were just straight forward loans, with no options, even though we tried to include them. Ever since then the ones we want to keep have come with obligations to buy.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2025 8:46 pmI know, and I don't care for it.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
There’s rumours that at a Q&A for hospitality customers, Pace said Southampton were quoting £15m at the start of the summer but his agent said if we waited we’d get him for £12m. Then Leverkusen paid £20m at the end blowing us out of the water.
In summary, we probably should’ve just got it done at £15m but I definitely thought £20m was too much to pay at the time. Probably no profit to be made there, realistically.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Seems obvious to me that we moved onto Edwards once Tella became unavailable, which I bet wasn’t certain until his recent run of starts (a common trick by a manager, the player then back to the bench when the window shuts).
Edwards feels riskier than Tella - but cheaper and with a bigger ceiling. All depends if he can get focused and firing (in which case he moves onto a big 7 club in 12 months) or whether his issue at Sporting is he lacks the desire to graft and improve after already getting rich (let’s be honest a story we have all seen dozens of times).

His actual resale will probably still be in the £12-15 million ballpark.
That being said they definitely got their moneys worth as part of the squad that won the title.

Just know he was linked a few days ago and was completely left out of southamptons squad yesterday.
So putting two and two together
