10pm - stand down
Business done for the day. No striker signed (Barnes for Jay is very meh), stuck with Magic Mike till the summer.
Very very underwhelming window.

Good window all in.
Signed a really top player in Edwards. A good option at right back.
Moved a few on the outskirts out.
Best of all kept our best players.
Big push everyone. Let’s get promoted.

Still rumours of interest in a LB, had been all day. Whose not to say we had our sights in one and it fell through, same with the WBA player, wasn't a bid knocked back?

Re: 10pm - stand down
Just watched Boro vs Sunderland. I'd back either of those ahead of us for automatic, sorry to say.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
A lot is riding on Edwards to make a difference.
I think we are a couple of signings short of where we need to be, to be confident of nicking a top two spot.

I think the club are just excited about us not conceding. Not bothered about the other end.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
It’s a bit weird that a side who doesn’t really score any goals and want to get promoted haven’t signed a player that might score some goals.

At least Brownhill didn't get snapped up by a PL Club!

Could’ve lost any number of players. We looked to be losing Brownhill only 48 hours ago.
Edwards is hopefully a cheat code in this league a la Tella.
And I don’t think we should be writing off the young lad from Ajax as purely an u21’s player- not when we’ve spent a £1M.

I think the hope is the signings we have made will help improve the service to our strikers.agreenwood wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 10:15 pmIt’s a bit weird that a side who doesn’t really score any goals and want to get promoted haven’t signed a player that might score some goals.
Edwards will dramatically improve that and in theory it should also allow Anthony to move back to his best side.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
He's not, but he's a creative player who could solve some of our problems. I also wanted a striker, but you can't say we didn't do anything.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
We’ve addressed the two main profiles that we were missing in my view - a ball playing midfielder capable of more dynamic passing from deep, and a technical, creative wide player who is a level above what we have. Both, however, come with the caveat that fitness could be an issue, let’s hope not. The final missing piece was a striker, didn’t even have to be one starting, but at least someone capable of being a better back up than 35 year old Ashley Barnes, so that leaves it feeling a touch disappointing.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
We now have
Koleosho
Ageyi
Banel
Vetro
Aduwemi
Tweedy
Mendes
Ryan
Masara
Bevan
Who are all wide players 21 and under, some of them have to break though and either save us spending your 10-15m on Anthony and Tresor and some we need to sell for really good profit.
All those options to go with Edwards Anthony benson Sarmiento Redmond Tresor just makes our squad look extremely unbalanced again

I agree I wouldn’t be surprised if that young lad takes one of the winger spots on the bench. Think it’s clear as day that Parker doesn’t fancy Koleosho and the other optionsTsarBomba wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 10:17 pmAgree with this.

That's our business concluded for this window
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
We've signed two lads who like to play on the wing in Edwards and Banel... SURELY that means Foster will be playing upfront and not on the wing? Surely right? Right?

Yep, Flemming has shown pretty consistently for the last 4-6 weeks that if you give him some service, he’ll do the business.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 10:17 pmI think the hope is the signings we have made will help improve the service to our strikers.

Even when Foster was up top, he rarely scored. He isn't our answer, sadly. Feels like an error not trying to pick up a goalscorer, especially at at time when that's our main weakness.

Lets hope Ramsey is somewhere close - will definitely feel like a new signing too and will likely play 10 freeing up Foster / Flemming to be the two main striker options

I completely agree Mik, but he'd be more useful in his actual position imo.burnleymik wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 10:22 pmEven when Foster was up top, he rarely scored. He isn't our answer, sadly. Re: 10pm - stand down
We’ve very possibly made the signing of the window in the Championship, kept hold of all our star players and shifted quite a lot of deadwood.Milltown1882 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 10:12 pmBusiness done for the day. Very very underwhelming window.
We’ll see in the next 16 games whether we should’ve brought in another striker, but judging by the links, I’m doubtful there was anyone out there better than what we had.
Let’s get behind the lads and get promoted.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Trafford(Green/Hladky)
Roberts(Sonne), CJER(Worrall), Esteve(Humphreys/Beyer is close to return?), Humphreys(Pires)
Cullen, Brownhill, Laurent (Shelvey, Hannibal, Ramsey returning soon?)
Edwards(Koleosho, Benson, Redmond?), Anthony (Sarmiento, is Jaydon Banel a signing for the first team?)
Flemming, Foster, Barnes
Overall the squad is strong in numbers and in quality in most positions. However there are far too many questions on the ability of most of our options for the front 3 to produce to give me confidence about a change in our goal scoring required to kick on to cement a top 2 finish.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Is Flemmimg really a striker ? Foster 1 goal this season and Barnes not exactly prolific. If Flemming gets injured we are in real danger of blowing an automatic spot and the play offs will be a lottery for a team who struggle to score. There have been 27 league games producing 22 goals and for chances created we are virtually at the bottom of the division stats. The defensive record has been fantastic but we only have to ship in 1 goal in any game to possibly lose all 3 points when we don't score and just how many more games we will play this season where we don't let goals in. Failing to get another striker in when your not scoring goals is poor, loaning out a striker and selling one and only bringing Barnes in is even poorer, relying on 3 strikers for the remainder of the season when two of them can't hit a barn door with a bazooka from one yard is unbelievably poor.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
What? We can't score goals as a team and he's one of the biggest culprits. He's still not scored a goal at Turf Moor....It's February

Thanks all. I only log on for the transfer windows as this place is pretty awful these days (coming from early clretsmad days). I suggest some of you step away from the keyboard/phone and go for a walk and chill out.
Anyway, let's enjoy the rest of the season. UTC.
