Just watched Boro vs Sunderland. I'd back either of those ahead of us for automatic, sorry to say.
You’d back a team 14 points behind us (after 30 games) ahead of us for automatic promotion?? I’d be happy to lay that bet.

If it comes off, you could buy some rubber bedsheets with your winnings.

Thanks all. I only log on for the transfer windows as this place is pretty awful these days (coming from early clretsmad days). I suggest some of you step away from the keyboard/phone and go for a walk and chill out.

Anyway, let's enjoy the rest of the season. UTC.
Certainly is chilly out if you go for a walk at this time of the evening

Just for reference on Boro their best player Ben Doak is out for ‘several weeks’. Could make a big difference.

Turkish window still open for 8 days so Tresor could stol go
We can't make any more loans to Europe, and no club in Turkey has ever paid the sort of fee we would need to release Tresor on a permanent.

Someone made a point this morning that Aduwemi being u21 and going on loan doesn’t count to the number of loans so Tresor could still go out

Is Flemmimg really a striker ? Foster 1 goal this season and Barnes not exactly prolific. If Flemming gets injured we are in real danger of blowing an automatic spot and the play offs will be a lottery for a team who struggle to score. There have been 27 league games producing 22 goals and for chances created we are virtually at the bottom of the division stats. The defensive record has been fantastic but we only have to ship in 1 goal in any game to possibly lose all 3 points when we don't score and just how many more games we will play this season where we don't let goals in. Failing to get another striker in when your not scoring goals is poor, loaning out a striker and selling one and only bringing Barnes in is even poorer, relying on 3 strikers for the remainder of the season when two of them can't hit a barn door with a bazooka from one yard is unbelievably poor.
If Flemming was regularly missing chances I would agree with you. But it's basically impossible to judge him when the entire team is set up with no movement to even try and create anything. Give him service and movement on either side of him and I reckon he'll look good.

He went because we signed him for a single season as a needs must back up because of injuries and now he’s 4th or 5th in line. Never going to get games. And now he gets an ADDITIONAL year and probably will play a lot and we get £250k.

I don’t know what part of this confuses you

Well that's an odd window. Edwards on paper is a very good signing who will add badly lacking creativity, but the failure to bring in a striker feels like a glaring omission. Neither Foster nor Flemming really want to lead the line physically, neither are natural poachers, and Foster's availability record has been a bit patchy. And then we have Barnes who is a worthy servant but beyond his best at 35.

Time will tell but it doesn't feel like there's enough goals in this team to win 10 or 11 of the last 16, which realistically we will have to assume we need to do to gain automatic promotion.

Mind boggling we've not signed a striker
I think disappointing is a more appropriate adjective and while many - the majority? - would agree with the sentiment, as evidenced by the vast number of posts calling for us to do just that in the last ninety pages, those same pages haven't included even a handful of realistic suggestions with regards to who we might sign... You can't sign what isn't available

I think we all share those concerns but where I am a bit more optimistic is that it feels to me that approach not personnel is the big factor. Lots of teams have a low scoring striker but still bag a lot in general. We just meed to throw a body or two further forward and I sense he will.

We haven’t had a 0-0 for a while against a team parking the bus. Boro, Sunderland, Leeds and Pompey all came at us. But they were all good sides, Pompey at home are. So the test starts today, I suspect we will find the goals we need.

I literally have no idea what that is supposed to mean. If making quite a bit of money betting on 0-0 (generally at 5/1) this season is slow, then yes I'll take that.

Because nobody in their right mind backs a 0-0 scoreline. You back the no goalscorer.

Plenty do, because the 0-0 is generally higher odds.
A cursory check at tonight’s game for example-

Bet365 - 6/1 or 13/2
WH - 11/2 or 7/1
PP - 6/1 or 7/1

Etc.

The chances of an own goal are always remote.

It’s not as clear cut as buy player A for £ sell player A for ££. Buy player B for ££ sell player B for £.

You pay a fee for a player you hope will perform. If they do that helps the team to be successful and the club to be successful. You look at Zaroury and Benson and think “they played a vital role in getting us to the PL and be the market for players like Odobert, Berge, O’Shea”. You also need a club to want to buy Zaroury and Benson.
I understand your point on the buying and selling not being as clear cut as the difference between the buy and sell amounts but that's a large part my concerns. Wages, Agent fees, Interest, Interest on interest, Factoring costs etc

It felt to me that we didn't give quite a few of the Championship winning team a chance in the Prem, and it felt by design rather than by performance unlike in Cullen's case where he had a go and was found wanting rested and returned and did ok in a chaotically set up team.
Conversely it felt thatthe likes of Zaroury & Benson we're left to rot, and we should have either given them a shot at the Prem or cashed in on them whilst their stock was high.

Rubbish. Everyone has a price.

Certainly playing on the front foot more would help. But ultimately, neither Flemming nor Foster have particularly shown themselves to be top end Championship number 9s either inside the box or in our build up play. Both are good players, but they look more comfortable playing off someone else, and neither appear instinctive goal-poachers. And in any event, if they're both starting games (whether as a front 2, or with Foster playing from the left) that still only leaves Barnes as a point of difference from the bench. And that's not enough. Perhaps Redmond is the other option, but he's really not played enough in the last 2 years to hang our hat on. Its a gap.

Agree with everything you are saying.

I think the club in an idea world would’ve strengthened up top, had the right player been available.

I don’t know about you, but I didn’t really see any links that looked to be an upgrade on what we already have.

Grant may have been ok, and offered us something a bit different in terms of stretching opposition defences, but I doubt WBA were ever going to sell considering they have their own promotion push to concentrate on.

WBA sold their No 1 keeper they are seriously strapped for cash and had to unload some of thier best players in the last few windows
We are building a team to stay up and clearly SP didn't fancy Grant as a long term fit.

Plenty do, because the 0-0 is generally higher odds. ...The chances of an own goal are always remote.
Maybe you should seek a second opinion by re-posting this on the Middlesbrough forum? ;)
