So you think if we were playing winning, entertaining football that there is a minority of fans who would slag players/club/coach off?

There's still people crying on here over Zaroury and Benson.
There is a minority that don't understand professional sport, football and have some sort of mental deficiency

That’s a typical stupid comment saying some of the fans have a sort of mental deficiency ,who are you to judge other fans because they don’t have the same views as you ,there were people who never went on the Turf again after Bob Lord sold Jimmy Mac ,it may be blind loyalty it may be out of principles but their entitled to their own opinion ,there are too many people on this forum who get on their high horse like you and preach to the masses, and I presume your an expert on professional football as well as being a physiatrist.
Re: Entitled Fanbase
We had a squad which was blown away in the Pemier league, then was decimated with what, 20? ish depatures in the summer.
All things considered, I think SP's done a great job.
Even in the Championship, we're always punching above our weight, a town team with small population, going up against numerous city clubs with 30,000+ attendances. This year, there's 13 clubs averaging higher attendances than us.
We've no God given right to be romping away with the league, blowing everyone in our path away.

Re: Entitled Fanbase
Think about this from an outside perspective and what we think of the following fans … thinking their clubs have a given right to success …
Bolton Fans - Big Sam - ‘we should be in Europe… buy some players’ - league one nearly went out of business
Charlton - Alan Curbishley - We should be doing better in the premier league we are a big club
Stoke - Tony P - We want to be more entertaining
Watford
Middlesbrough
Sunderland …
I could go on and on and on ….
Think of what some fans think of Burnley fans - not happy with 2nd with a +28 GD …
It’s fine to want more goals etc …
But 22 clubs in this league would love to be in our position and have the last few years we have had -
Entitled is not a Buzz word… it is a reality and I do think some fans need a bit of perspective at times
The 90’s Burnley fan in me refuses to moan at where we are right now - he would be very disappointed if I was
I’m very greatful for our very strong position in comparison to other clubs our size and bigger

It's interesting that those regular posters on here who early on thought we'd struggle to make the playoffs let alone the automatic places because other teams had better squads a few months ago are now saying we should be doing better ( than being 2nd ) given our resources
There's simply no pleasing some it really is that simple

What the hell does attendance have to do with anything. Derby have nearly 13k more in attendance every game but there squad is worth a fraction of ours.

I don’t know if it’s true about us having the 2nd highest wage bill but it’s likely. So we’re hardly punching above our weight. We’re roughly where we should be, albeit in the most mind numbing way possible.
Fan’s aren’t ‘entitled’ to anything other than 23x90 minutes of football. It’s just another popular buzzword, it’ll be something else next season.
Anyway, it’s largely irrelevant what fans expect/ demand/ moan about, the short to mid-term future of the club, financially and therefore on the pitch, will be determined by Scott Parker’s side over the next few months. We’re just sat watching it unfold and muttering into the abyss on here.

You mean it took an own goal to beat Oxford and stop yet another 0-0 draw a few days after we failed to bring in a goalscorer in the transfer window. An Oxford side who’ve recently broke their transfer record for fee what we paid for the services of Ade Akinbiyi.

We beat Plymouth 5-0 with a similar performance to Oxford. Only difference was being more clinical. Results bias is a killer.Dyched wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2025 7:43 amYou mean it took an own goal to beat Oxford and stop yet another 0-0 draw a few days after we failed to bring in a goalscorer in the transfer window. Being second in the league doesn't suit some people's narrative that they've held for a number of months, they've still got to find something to pick and chip away at, it unburdens them. ( There's a couple on this very thread already who are really easy to pick out )
Leave them to it, it's a case of give them enough rope for a few

I mean in a game with 15 shots at goal, 7 on target, 4 massive chances missed. Like a maths exam, you get plenty of credit for your workings, and the workings were more than decent in Tuesday.Dyched wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2025 7:43 amYou mean it took an own goal to beat Oxford and stop yet another 0-0 draw a few days after we failed to bring in a goalscorer in the transfer window. This is the same kind of point made by some when we played well and beat Plymouth 5-0. We were told we should be hammering teams like this and Plymouth are crap.Dyched wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2025 7:43 amYou mean it took an own goal to beat Oxford and stop yet another 0-0 draw a few days after we failed to bring in a goalscorer in the transfer window. Plymouth have also drawn with Boro, went to Brentford in the FA cup and won, then the 2 results straight after our game had them draw at Sunderland and beat West Brom.
If football was so predictable we would all win every bet placed.

Re: Entitled Fanbase
And 2 of those draws were Leeds and Sunderland, no wonder there is such anger after drawing with 2 teams as bad as they are
Re: Entitled Fanbase
I love how those defending Parker, including himself, are very quick to mention 'breaking records' and other defensive stats but fail to mention stats like being in the bottom six for chances created and being the worst team in all four leagues for draws at home!
If Parker had been at Leeds or Sheffield UTD and a few other Championship teams this season with the same record, attacking stats, and home performances, he would have been potted by now. It's as simple as that.
If being some of the most patient fans in the league and not getting on the backs of our players and manager makes us entitled, then I guess we are entitled
Many other fans at other clubs would be giving them hell for what we have had to sit through at home this season!

Not defensive at all your original post is the one defending something, I am used to people using stats or wordings to suit an agenda on here.
Like I said saying December looks a lot better than saying 3 games especially when 2 of those 3 were against 2 of the other sides in the top 4.

Re: Entitled Fanbase
Yes. (I realise that was a rhetorical question)
I’m just trying to be reasoned and balanced about why people are frustrated. The home home in particular this season hasn’t been that of a top two side (it hasn’t even been that of a top 6 side) and there hasn’t been much free flowing football or goals scored. So therefore from an entertainment perspective, it’s been a tough watch.

You’ve just backed up my original post where I was saying there doesn’t seem to be much middle ground with fans - apparently you’re either “entitled” or a super fan that can’t handle any criticism of the team or club.

Most draws at home - the flipside is 2 losses all season.
Teams who pot managers who have them in and around the automatic promotion places are lunatics, and not a generally well run club.
I don't deny there have been some very dull tedious games this season, it's unarguable. What irritates me is even after a pretty decent performance, where they've carved open a team multiple times, and won, fans are still twisting stats and situations to be completely unbalanced (statement such as it took an own goal for us to beat Oxford and it was boring - complete lack of balance).
And the constant griping and moaning and "We deserve better" comments that permeate this board and social media, are what lead to the view that there are elements of the fan base that are overly entitled. If you think, as a Burnley fan, you "Deserve" better than 2nd place in the championship, watching a team work hard every week, play as a team, with good characters throughout the side, then I think you've lost the essence of why Burnley have been possibly the most successful town based team for the last 15 years. Because, those values of hard work, togetherness, good characters in the side, a connection to the community, good decision making from boards and managers - are what have enabled this to happen. Do you know the season when plenty of those things weren't on show? Last season - and for me, last season was the most disappointing season in the last 15 years. They didn't work as a team, there were poor characters around the place, they didn't fight - they didn't show those values that set Burnley apart.
This season isn't perfect, but the team, the squad, the manager - to my eye, are much more aligned with the values that dragged the club from the bottom of the 4th, to 7th in the premier league, and I will always be grateful for a team that show those values. And with that, the results will come.

And to add.... I think there's a great case study on the value of good charachters. If you're unlucky to be old enough to remember when Burnley and Preston were almost identikit clubs, fighting for that first promotion to the Premier League, it always surprised me that after Moyes left, Burnley always had the upper hand, despite lower funding, missing out on signings that went to Preston and so on...... fast forward a decade, and you've got the Undr The Cosh podcast, shining a light on what the likes of Parkin, Gregan, Brown etc were all like and how they didn't like Grezza cos he was frustrated at their lack of commitment and professionalism. We've evolved to have players like Cork, Brownhill, Jay Rod, Josh Laurent, Worrall etc - and we've gone to a complete different level to Preston for the last 10-15 years. Dyche had those values front and centre at the training ground, in his press conferences etc..... as fans, I do think it's really important, that we remember what makes this club so good, so successful, and has allowed us to have a very different last 15 years from an almost identical club, who fell the wrong side of those values.

We have been spoilt over the years, I think the fan base wouid be very toxic if we was 6 points worse off even and not in contention for top two. I think Parker deserves a lot of credit he has built a good structure and cj in particular as been a find. What frustrates me is the subs, he doesn’t give them enough time we wait till the 80th minute at 0-0 most games for a attacking change and it’s too late. It’s particularly annoying with Anthony, feel he flickers in and out of games but he works his nuts off so he gets a pass for 90 mins. Just feel sometimes like why don’t change your widemen for the last half hour etc. really confident of a top two finish now good fixtures and can see us winning a lot of these games.

Just like a few have pointed out, there is a massive grey area between the two opposing views.
Tuesday was fine, not perfect but a result that flattered Oxford. If we’d had seen more performances with that intent this season at home this thread wouldn’t be happening.
Plenty of time left to rectify things this season.

Not saying ‘we deserve better’ its more ‘we want a more offensive team’
I’ve had enough of watching wingers and strikers standing still with their back to goal at the halfway line. That is not the football I want to watch!!

I actually don't mind people having a vent on here, if they are actually supporting the team in the ground. I was pretty annoyed at the performance against Pompey, but I didn't bring that negativity to the Oxford game.
The people not turning up and supporting the team will all come back when the goals start flowing - that's entitled.

Apologies Dande.
I seemed to have added my response in your quote. Which was never the intention.

Re: Entitled Fanbase
For clarity:
Why does it matter. Because its dull as dishwater.
Not saying ‘we deserve better’ its more ‘we want a more offensive team’
I’ve had enough of watching wingers and strikers standing still with their back to goal at the halfway line. That is not the football I want to watch!!

Re: Entitled Fanbase
I think it is a microcosm of the state of our society at the moment. People say things to get a reaction. Just look at AFTV and their meltdown after losing to Newcastle. Calling their players pr1cks and worse. Even we don't stoop to that level.
I think everyone needs to chill and take a look at the bigger picture. A lot of other clubs would have had a terrible season after what happened in the last week of the window. We've had key players with long term injuries, record signings not being available etc
Think we are very close to everything clicking.

Support the team and the current set up.
Or go and support man city if this isn't good enough.
Football is about fighting for the result, not just playing it pretty and at times you have to dig in.
We're second in the league having played the top sides bar sheff twice and it's not good enough to some.
Reality checks are in order.
Someone bump the season prediction thread from summer and I bet where we are is inline or better than where about 90% of people thought it would be. Yet we're here and it's not good enough.
I wouldn't have half of you lot in the trenches with me.

Re: Entitled Fanbase
I went back and had a look. Depends when you review the post but actually before the season started the vast majority of people expected Burnley to be promoted at a canter. After the the first couple of games when we blew sides away I would say nearly everyone on there was saying the same thing.Conroy92 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2025 9:47 amWe want a more offensive team. Then we sold a shed load of players and the opinion changed.
The analogy about being in the trenches is a strange one. Compared to the vast majority of this league the true analogy should be.
I wouldn’t want you next to me in the drone whilst fighting people in trenches haha. We are on a different stratosphere to the rest of the teams in this league financially. Our wage bill and value of squad is insane at this level.

Football isn't as easy as straight line economics. Burnley have regularly been on the opposite end of delivering results above their value.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2025 10:17 amI went back and had a look. If it was just about finances, the football season would be one day long - everybody comes along, flashes their balance sheet and investment plans, and we crown the winner. Finances are an aide, not a fait accompli.

Dande - I hardly ever post now on these threads because it gets to the point where it is just mindlessly repeating the same point of view (pro or against.)dandeclaret wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2025 8:44 amI don't deny there have been some very dull tedious games this season, it's unarguable. What irritates me is even after a pretty decent performance, where they've carved open a team multiple times, and won, fans are still twisting stats and situations to be completely unbalanced (statement such as it took an own goal for us to beat Oxford and it was boring - complete lack of balance).
But like everyone else with an opinion, it’s easy to get triggered to respond (when emotions are already high) when someone puts up a firecracker of a post designed to get a rise. So a rational person who is in the pro SP camp ,will be champing at the bit when someone like 007 starts typing one of his “sack him this instant “ posts. Conversely someone who is not a massive fan of the style of play that SP is churning out (like myself) will find themselves rising to the bait when somebody posts something like “where are all the usual suspects” when we have had a “resounding” 1.0 win.
Just to reiterate I don’t want SP out at this point as I think he will do the job he was employed to do.
I normally try and get down to about 5/6 games a season in the Championship- I honestly don’t think I will even get to one this year. It’s way too much money - could go to a couple of proper gigs for the price of a game. Not proud to say that and never thought I would. I think there is only about two or three games where I have raised a cheer from my chair (first game and Flemmings strike)
I have never felt so disenfranchised in 55 years of supporting them. Under Laws I was angry but that was better than apathy I honestly can’t see SP changing his style of play any time soon and that depresses me.

There is a direct correlation between league finish and squad value that has been proven over years and years.

What does disenfranchised mean in the context of supporting burney football club?Guller Bull wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2025 10:27 amDande - I hardly ever post now on these threads because it gets to the point where it is just mindlessly repeating the same point of view (pro or against.)
