Burton v Blackpool - no concern for supporters

Post by ClaretTony » Fri Feb 07, 2025 1:58 pm

Burton v Blackpool was originally scheduled for tomorrow 8th February but was brought forward to Thursday, 6th Feb for broadcast by Sky. That was until Sky decided they didn't want anything distracting from the League Cup semi at Anfield so they moved the Burton v Blackpool game back to the Saturday at just ten days notice.

It's getting beyond a joke the way they mess with fixtures and disrupt supporters.

Tinfoil hat on but I'm believing more and more as the season goes on that this is Sky's attempt to get fans to turn against the 3pm blackout.

Not so much the one off games, but I'd be curious if any of the red button games have had a bigger attendance at the ground than have had viewers on the box.

The game is fast becoming in danger of eating itself.

I maybe in the minority but this seasons kick off times and more so the actual day for our games have been a real nuisance. We’ve played on every day of the week. I look back fondly to the good old days of the 60s and early 70s kick off times. Saturday at 3:00 pm or Tuesday night at home 7:30 pm.

Exactly what we were chatting about on the way home the other night.

They are forgetting that people have lives outside football and changing arrangements means a potential big issue in many families where children need attention and spouses may not have the same fondness of games on every day of the week and finishing at unsociable hours for travelling home.

I’ve been known to go for my last train and miss two Burnley goals whilst walking up to the station.

After this happened on the next evening match I decided not to leave until after the final whistle. I missed the appropriate train and subsequently struggled to get home finding myself stranded on Blackburn station and only getting home at 1am by taxi!

The clubs and players will have no idea / concern that this is happening to their beloved supporters. 😉

I can no longer attend night games because it is too late for my daughter. I can’t remember the last 3pm game at home on a Saturday this season. It’s a joke.

From the start of November until the end of Feb, we will have played 1 home game on a Saturday and 1 on a Sunday. The rest are all week nights. Absolute disgrace.

It's a bit of a shame it's come to this, Burnley isn't something to plan your weekend around anymore. We've found ourselves using non-league for the Saturday afternoon routine now as it very rarely clashes with a Burnley game. There must be plenty doing the same with the Sheffield clubs as one of the local 9th tier sides here had over 1,000 on the other week. 3pm, cash on the turnstile, walk home. Like watching league football 30 years ago.

An easy way to stop it.....don't take the money from sky

But for obvious reasons nobody would do it. I'd love every game to be 3pm on a Saturday, unfortunately those days are gone.

I echo what’s been said. Sick to death of these midweek games. A complete pain in the arse if you’re on shift work.

not to mention been able to have a beer whilst watching the game and having change from a £20 note at the end of the match
