Re: Southampton vs Clarets match thread
Nothing wrong with our performance other than 2 huge misses by Sarmiento and Benson. Should be ahead

Exactly. He's had some good moments and looks up for it. I'd be scoring him 6-7 thus far

Re: Southampton vs Clarets match thread
The stats show Southampton as having two big chances and Burnley as none, how the benson off the line and Sarmiento one aren’t big chances, that just shows you can’t base a game on stats

We should have scored (Sarmiento), they should have scored. About right at the moment.

It’s not even close to our first team either, let him get fit and give him a chance.Stonehouse wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2025 3:52 pmHe not running back to pick up passes out from the back like Cullen does ,looks drastically off the pace with his fitness, and that’s not the Saints first team.

To add, Brian Graham scored against Falkirk on 24 minutes, got booked on 33, then sent off on 37. Calm down, lad.

Re: Southampton vs Clarets match thread
Sarm has looked very lively , and though Benson hasn’t had much ball I thought he looked quite sharp ( though he’s clearly not fully match fit ,he was gassing while running with ball in HT whistle ) At the back we looked great in possession ( exception Worral who looks a useless hungover donkey ) Jonjo is all about movement and passing and he’s really not had much to work with at all , Barnes I’d genuinely forgotten he was playing . Humphreys, a real schoolboy challenge late on , but I like the way he pushes out quickly , Pires is exposed too .All to play for though

Yeah they've been the better side with the ball but probably both had equal good chances where it mattered.KernowHouseClaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2025 3:57 pmI wouldn't say we've been better, I'd say we've held our own, but they seem quicker to the second ball and a real threat down their right.

Re: Southampton vs Clarets match thread
Decent half and Ive been impressed by Sonne and Sarmiento. Shelvey and Benson look rusty but have shown some glimpses of the quality the can bring. Hoped to see more out of Hannibal in centre midfield and Pires and Barnes look the weak links today.
Would like to see Edwards for Pires, Flemming up front for Barnes asap and Redmond for Benson at some stage. Also would be good to see something of Banel who could come on for Sarmiento with Flemming dropping back
Think the subs will be key to his game as it could easily go stale in second half without the right changes

Re: Southampton vs Clarets match thread
Not unexpected but too many players a yard off the pace.
Barnes struggling to hold anything up.
Nobody playing like they want a first team shirt.
Hopefully gets better 2nd half.

Southampton fans on X running with the Burnley are just abit dull comments, Southampton as the premier league side were extremely dull

Re: Southampton vs Clarets match thread
Not sure that’s right, new system, players who aren’t 100% match fit and or coming back from injury. Some positives for sure. Shelvey looked to be tiring around 25-30 mins in , I’d expect him to be replaced by Cullen around the hour mark.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2025 4:00 pmNot unexpected but too many players a yard off the pace.

Brilliant reffing. Books a Saint for diving to get a pen. Replay shows he did slip slightly.

He slipped becasue his body shape was wrong. It was set to initiate contact to cheat a pen.

Good to see Hannibal playing with a smile on his face. Already had a couple of situations he would normally react badly to but he’s been fine.
