Foster
Foster
Seemed to be playing with a smile on his face last night
Still not convinced of him in the wide left role but he certainly looked sharper when he replaced Flemming up top for those minutes including a good right foot shot which had their GK making an excellent save
Flemming scored a good goal but also missed a sitter
If Edwards is going to turn out to be the next good wide man with Anthony on the opposite flank, who plays up front
If Foster, does Flemming revert to No 10 or keep Hannibal there
Nice problems to have

Re: Foster
I thought foster last night did the job asked of him, kept himself in space, played simple passes when he needed to and drove into space when it was there. Most of the play went down the right but he had a very disciplined role on the left

Re: Foster
One of the pleasing things about our form and performances since the Reading win, has been the performance of Foster. He has almost grown in every game in the last four or so weeks. When he goes on a powerful run as he did in the second half last night, he is a handful, and we have not had to many of those this season. Parker will relish being able to choose 3 from 4 now in Fleming/Anthony/Foster/Edwards. If Foster stays injury free and maintains this form he could be pivotal to an auto promotion. His give and go's and deft passes yesterday were key factors to us being so on top. Long may that continue with Lyle

I agree I think Foster’s performances are getting better from the left.

I agree with most of what was said above. Looking more widely it seems to me now that we not only have a solid team but that every individual in that team is performing well. Foster provides real pace.

Starting to look fitter. When he's fit and has that proper burst of speed and power consistently without looking absolutely shattered, he's a threat

He’s a confidence player and needs a goal, but I thought he played very well last night and against Oxford.

Seems to be enjoying his football. I’ve been a critic but he’s starting to get a bit of form and looks sharp.

Re: Foster
He had a decent game last night. I don’t feel he offers too much other than when he cuts into the box on the diagonal, but this is a strength of his and has led to goalscoring opportunities in the past couple of games. I think he’s the obvious player to give way in order to accommodate Edwards though, which will surely happen sooner rather than later.
Re: Foster
He’s utter rubble. Hearing the same arguments for the other donkey we used to have Jutkiewisz. all he needs is a goal…. Which never came..
Edwards instead of Foster is a much better option

Foster is improving, but I still have my doubts about him on the left wing.
Thought he looked far more threatening coming through the middle towards the end of the game.

Re: Foster
Absolutely. When Anthony had his full back 1v1 last night on the right, you wanted to see Foster really attacking the back post, but too often he was hanging back on the edge of the area. Perhaps that's instruction, but it feels like a real miss if we're playing this sort of 433 formation.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 11:54 amThere's just one thing that I'd like to see him do more of - attack the back post, or get across a centre half when Anthony is on the ball.
I think he's a good player and he's doing a good job off the left. His assist last night was because he attracted two men and played a simple pass into the space that created.

I'm a fan of Foster but using that assist as proof of his qualities is pushing it. It's a great ball to him and a great finish, he did the easy bit which I'm pretty sure any of our widemen would have done, even Koleosho whose use of the ball is...let's say questionableclaretspice wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 4:59 pmAbsolutely. He did the easy bit, but Hull were scared of his pace and power and doubled up as a result. That's why the ball to Humphreys was an easy one. He attracted defenders and that created space.Goliath wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 5:07 pmI'm a fan of Foster but using that assist as proof of his qualities is pushing it. Interestingly, Koleosho did do the same thing early in the season. Teams doubled up on him and that created space. Pace and power scares teams.
Re: Foster
Grew into last nights game, what I noticed was the players encouraging him when he did a good move and also when something didn't quite come off, shows what a strong team spirit we have.
I still prefer him down the middle, that shot towards the end was superb, so much power and accuracy.

Underrated? Complete opposite. He done shag all again. Miscontrolled the ball and hurried it away to Bashir who scored a screamer. Absolutely nothing to do with Foster in the slightest, apart from the assist tick. Well here’s a stat for you, he’s has as many booking as he has goal involvements this season. What does that tell you.Vincent'sCap wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 4:47 pmUnderrated player he had a great game last night.

Complete waste of a shirt, we have much better. He needs to go and let someone else come in.
Look at the difference between Foster and Anthony. Night and day.
Re: Foster
The term doubled up is overused these days. Most teams bring a central midfielder across to deal with a wideman who cuts inside. They aren't doubling up because it's someone with such quality that they have to double mark as the implication tends to be. It's just logical to have a second man come across so the full back doesn't have to follow him all the way in and leave a huge gap.claretspice wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 5:52 pmHe did the easy bit, but Hull were scared of his pace and power and doubled up as a result. One of the reasons Anthony is looking so effective of late, is because the team is so much more balanced with Foster on the left. The opposition defence is having to stretch because they are scared of the threat down both wings (I don’t think we have been able to say that all season).
I think foster is really growing into the role and as a result the team is finally looking balanced in attacking sense.
I would give him time he’s had a turbulent start to his Burnley career but I think he seems in a good head space and in a role that works to his strengths. (Credit to Parker for finding a role that suits him).
Re: Foster
Technically he’s a League Two standard player, so it’s just never going to work here, he’s just out of his depth. How many goals has he scored this season? Totally useless and ineffective aside from a couple of eye catching runs.

Re: Foster
Its very obvious from certain posters on here that sadly they lack knowledge of the finer side of the game. I can see why Foster drew criticism pre the Reading game, but for me know he now has to be one of the fist names on the team sheet. No one else in our squad has the power and strength of this guy and I can only see him get stronger in the next 14 games

It feels like he chasing a goal to break his drought a little too much and forcing his chances. He's still playing well in the other aspects of his game, but he needs a scrappy goal to get that monkey off his back.

Re: Foster
Is it possible that he's been put out on the wing to gain confidence? He's clearly a decent player, and being out there doesn't have to be so prolific. When Edwards is up to speed/fitness, I feel that Foster maybe brought back into the the centre.
Re: Foster
We are all allowed opinions but this is genuinely the worst I've ever seen on this board. How many players that are league 2 level technically can put in some of the performances he did in the Premier League.
He's not an iniesta, he's a fast powerful attacker that can show brilliant technique in front of goal when he's in form.

Luckily them 2 agree on Foster and it seems nobody else does so think we are ok for now.

I agree his pace and power scares the opposition.
Unfortunately I think he makes the wrong decision too often to be a left winger/midfielder.
When he moved inside at the end of the game, the sharpness and fitness he now has after a run of games, showed through.
In my opinion he is much better when he doesn't have to think, just go for goal and shoot - a striker.

His skill and IQ are that of a lower league player on a good day. His athleticism is top drawer. That’s all he has.
Never going to be good enough for our level. His career stats are very poor for a striker/forward player. A 1 in 6 striker at best.
Re: Foster
Said the same thing a few times but also with Shelvey. Both Shelvey and Edwards look to have better passing ability than the rest who can thread a pass through the middle for Foster to run on to.

He's input over the last few games has been 2nd to none, just needs a goal and more will come imo, looks to be really enjoying he's football with a smile on he's face, SP seems to have worked wonders with him, and with a run in that position I think he would be equally as important up front, with the likes of hannibal, shelvey, Edwards I think they could find him with a ball threaded through.

Re: Foster
I think he was great wide left against Reading, Oxford and Hull, pretty terrible at Portsmouth (not alone). He's more effective wide than he has been up front this season for sure. Desperately needs a goal.

The old man who is consistently incorrect about most things.
You never actually have any valid counter arguments do you?
Re: Foster
I can't speak for him but you mentioned Foster's IQ which in itself is a multifaceted concept so doesn't make sense with regards to a footballer anyway. But you must know the number to say it's low?
