Goal music was a fad a few years ago and we fought long and hard to get rid of it on the Turf - now with no discussion they bring it back. Also, the final whistle blows and instantly we have 'Freed from Desire' blasting out, and I mean instantly, removing the win celebration from supporters. That, along with Mr We Are Moments Away From Kick Off, they are turning it into a circus.

Is our Director of Fan Experience behind this?
I think last season or the season before they played Freed from Desire but maybe a couple of minutes after the final whistle. That seemed to work better, gave everyone the opportunity to celebrate and probably kept the celebrations going a bit longer when they played it just as the celebrations were dying down.

D of FE must be getting some questions about the lack of atmosphere. I'm not sure nondescript drum and bass music during a light show is the right answer either. I don't mind the light show, but play something that might match the tone or even just something people actually recognise.

Absolutely tin pot and really embarrassing. Just killed some of the joy after scoring.

Shouty bloke with his 'we are moments away' and 'let's hear it for Burnlaaay' is cringe as well.

We are not Americans and we don't want a American style sports experience.

I agree about the American style experience, but the shouty bloke was a “feature” a long time before ALK were here.

I think they are just trying to get the crowd going. I don't remember a 2 nil win ever being as miserable as it was last night. At times it was deadly silent. Even after the goals there was polite applause and back to silent. Similar to a pre season friendly or a early cup tie against a non League side.

The support is getting worse, rather than better

Didn’t there always used to be a 20-30 sec delay after the final whistle before they pumped out FRD? To actually have a short window of celebration ? ( or even commiseration)

While I’ve no issue either way with goal music ( yes it’s tacky) or the bizzare “lightshow” for a few 1000 that aren’t taking a p1ss /beer at h/t, but cranking straight into FRD literally as the whistle blows just feels bizzare. Perhaps I’m just immune to it and never noticed !

They are trying to create an atmosphere but the drum idea was quickly thrown out due to fans complaining so, maybe, they are trying the music following a goal to see if that works. I notice thought that they did it without fans input this time  .

Not sure what people are expecting from an atmosphere on a cold, damp Wednesday evening against a fairly crap team we've zero rivalry with, and the game is won after 20 minutes.

To be honest, I'd prefer we sit there quietly mumbling away than have to listen to some daft Crystal Palace style Ultra-lite hipsters banging a drum and pretending they're Italians from the mid 90s. As for goal music, is it 2005 again? Even the most tinpot clubs have long since binned that.

I suppose the only advantage is that it was so tinpot I never noticed it.

The halftime 'lightshow' proved interesting with subs from both sides attempting to warm up.

Some Saturday 3pm kick offs might help. Last one was 21st December. Next one 8th March.

11 weeks. If we go up at least we guarantee more Sat 3pm KO's.

A note to Burnley football club. Light shows blazingly out 'Come on Burnley' and goal music does not inspire an atmosphere in the crowd, it suppresses it.

Pre match music needs to be relevant or traditional to the club. Apart from No Nay Never, is there a song that ties in with Burnley like Penny Arcade does for Rangers or the obvious YNWA at Liverpool.

We don’t really have a connection with a local band or artist like the link below that the fans can attach to and use it to create an atmosphere rather than suppress it. Coventry use this very effectively.

https://youtu.be/qH69kUcvo1c?si=Fnbj3EBD9pjrCsiK

We are becoming in danger of trying too many different genres and songs pre match that it becomes irrelevant. I make it three different attempts at finding a song for when the players come out this season, together with the various Guns and Roses and AC/DC attempts of last.

The nearest connection to a local band is Milltown Brothers, Chumbawumba at a push, and we've used Tubthumping in the past.

Personally, I'd love Here I Stand by Milltown Brothers, just a good tune (was also the theme to All Quiet on the Preston Front)

I'd rather we didn't have it at full time, but if we have to at least lets play something original rather than freed from desire. When it feels like you're just copying other clubs it makes it feel even more tinpot and cringeworthy.

If we are going to have music at full time I think ‘The Deadwood Stage” by Doris Day would go down well. It’s a banging uplifting tune and some very pertinent lyrics as it mentions Deadwood (obvs) and Indians, as well as porcupine quills.

Ticks all the boxes.

Don't like the idea of music to celebrate goals ... feels a bit tin pot ...

I get why they try it though - on the night games recently the goal cheers feel a bit muted

the loudest cheers recently were the Penalty saves due to the drama of it all and that for me should tell anyone at the club what they need to hear/see

People mock man city for their atmosphere being poor but when you don't lose (recent history permitting) the fans get complacent

Fair point, we've probably lost 1 home game at this level in about the last 40. I'm sure the stat could be extended as well, with the 23 unbeaten under Dyche it must be 1 defeat in 50 at least actually.

we have a connection to 60's band the Hollies , 3 of the 5 members from their best period were from the local area , the guitarist Tony Hicks, the drummer Bobby Elliott and the bass player Bernie Calvert , i am sure some clever individual could re word 'the air that i breath' as Sheff utd did with the john Denver song and Notts Forest have with mull of Kintyre - just saying

i wasn't saying it could be goal music i was saying an anthem before the start of the game.

i note comments such as 'cringe worthy' and 'tin pot' yet no meaningful suggestions as to what could be used as an anthem .

i agree that we shouldn't go back to goal music i think its had its day but to suggest 'thunderstruck' or something similar for the start of the game is equally lame , tin pot and cringeworthy.

we should look for something up to date, modern and something no one else is doing, that is memorable easy to follow and anthemic - if we aren't going with the local band thing like the Hollies.

how about Skindred - Gimme that boom

Good suggestions.

Most teams have an anthem before a game - usually a hit from the 60’s or 70’s that has been covered enough that most age groups know it.

The sheer number of night matches is going to be a part of this, especially when they are all televised. The impact might not be noticed as keenly by those who live within the town, but for those traveling from further afield the rush from work to be able park within a mile of the ground, find some expensive junk food somewhere, get the kids home late and deal with their resulting tiredness for the next couple of days is pretty wearing when it's almost every week. It's no wonder a lot are fed up and in many cases not bothering, particularly given the awful weather and level of entertainment that has been on offer.

Of course, little of that is the club's fault, just the reality of the TV dominated industry that football has become. The football that many of us like to remember (affordable, few beers on a Saturday afternoon either side of the match, watching in hope more than expectation) just isn't the modern day experience.
Exactly this. The drip, drip, drip effect of saturation to coverage. Feel really sorry for the local hostelries too. The Dyche was almost empty before the Leeds game. Saturday 3pm and it would have been absolutely heaving.

We as fans had a vote on this and finally got rid of the goal music didn't we? However Alan’s yes men and women on the Fan Advisory Board feel it’s just what we need to improve the atmosphere… Don’t be surprised to hear the return of The Piranhas’ Tom Hark soon enough. Not sure if there was a vote, but it was (and I expect remains) unpopular. Not sure the fans advisory panel will have had a say on it either. If memory serves goal music was before AP took over, and they are trying “something new”. There have been many comments on the lack of atmosphere this season, hopefully they will soon decide it is not the answer as if anything it discourages the crowd.

There was a vote and it was overwhelming to get rid of it which we thankfully did some years ago. There were also complaints at the time of the club ruining end of match celebrations by blasting out unnecessary music. At the last game, 'Freed From Desire, literally started with the final whistle.

To be fair. The so called singing stand isnt cutting it. The ridiculous singing about scoring a goal isnt helping anyone so I’ll happily have music over negative chanting.

To be fair. The so called singing stand isnt cutting it. The ridiculous singing about scoring a goal isnt helping anyone so I’ll happily have music over negative chanting.
So the chairman has bad a hissy fit because he didn’t like some words a few fans were singing and his response is to drown them out and subject the whole fanbase to nonsense goal music? That is quite pathetic

Genuine question , what’s the “negative singing “ after we score a goal ?? I know Alan likes to bellow out a few lines of “ t1ts fanny and clarets “ , but that’s hardly an “ after goal song” .

I`m guessing it was the ironic "we`ve scored a goal" after one of the recent Tuesday night games. Think it was Oxford but tbh they`ve all just blurred into one.

Not against goal music per say, but that current choice of music is cringe. You can feel it on the Turf too, it was ignored for every goal.. even chanted over for Brownhill's goal.

I remember when Blackburn were using Samba De Janeiro a few seasons ago, and I thought it was cringe then. Always like a Norwich City rip off.

I'd prefer no music, if not then Tom Hark.. a song with more history here.

Can’t moan about the team, so let’s moan about the goal music. Can play whatever they want for me if it means we are scoring goals
