For a team that creates very little, Foster has to be taking one of his chances.
But chance creation is still a big problem for us. For how well we played on Wednesday, we were pretty **** today.
Really frustrating afternoon.

Got a touch but I couldn’t figure out if it was before or after the contact off those angles and also going studs up into someone’s ankle is a foul anywhere else on the pitch 9 times out of 10 even if you get a slight touch on the ball.

Correct, gone to ground, took his legs, ball still in play. Penalty.

Fosters scores either of those chances and the games won.
I want nothing more than for Foster to score as he must feel rubbish, but for me Edward’s starts ahead now.

Re: The Super Clarets vs Preston Match Thread
We went worse when Hannibal went off and Brownhill came on. Anthony has a good first twenty minutes then very little. Shelvey should play more minutes instead of Laurent, I like Foster but he's wasted out left and simply can't take easy chances, Edwards might need to start, we have to take our chances.
Preston played the perfect spoiling game against us, helped incredibly by the referee. The standard of refereeing in English football is bloody awful, but there doesn't seem to be any accountability.
I'm very frustrated after that game, but made even worse by a referee who was appalling.

Re: The Super Clarets vs Preston Match Thread
That seemed to be the case, the ref wasn't close and it was Hannibal's word against his. What's important was how maturely Hannibal handled it and it will now be looked at. Lots of Preston players doing the awkward shrug thing but they can't take a position until they also know. It does mean that this player, the one who bit someone, will be under more scrutiny though. I expect the club will issue a statement because until it has been reviewed nothing can be done.

Can't believe pundits talking about the ball touching the defender so no penalty. It doesn't matter if you've lunged in and took the forward, if the ball brushes your knee on the way past it's still a foul, everywhere on the pitch. They get given all the time.

Re: The Super Clarets vs Preston Match Thread
I think Parker should have been braver with his substitutions today, by taking Hannibal off we lost that ability to play through midfield and we really struggled to get Edwards in the game as a result.
Although Laurent is very effective in what he does, his link up play isn't his strong point, so I'd have swapped him for either Brownhill or Sarmiento.
It wasn't happening for either Flemming or Anthony so Benson & Barnes should have had at least 15 minutes.
Nonetheless, we created two golden opportunities and had a clear penalty not given (yes, I know he touches the ball but he's already gone to ground and doesn't play the ball.)

Exactly. It's inadvertently touched him as Edwards went past him. It is a million miles away from a tackle.Peacock-Barrel wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2025 2:53 pmCan't believe pundits talking about the ball touching the defender so no penalty. Whenever I hear her as co-comms and she makes a call on an incident I usually think well that's complete bo!!ocks and go with the opposite. She then inevitably tries to back herself up even after she's seen the incident from multiple angles which makes her appear even more stupid
Keep an eye on her next couple of games and you'll see what I mean

Leaving Laurent on and bringing brownhill on when you need a goal with our bench options seemed crazy to me
Re: The Super Clarets vs Preston Match Thread
Laurent was having a good and important role in the game at the time.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2025 3:06 pmLeaving Laurent on and bringing brownhill on when you need a goal with our bench options seemed crazy to me
Brownhill is our top scorer.
Didn’t seem crazy to me, at all.

Brownhill coming on is fine but not leaving Laurent on, Laurent in the Preston half was absolutely shocking today, he’s technical ability let us down so much, Sarmiento and brownhill for Hannibal and Laurent

Re: The Super Clarets vs Preston Match Thread
I think in the context of the game it was.
We were seriously struggling to get a hold of the ball further up the pitch.
I think bringing on Brownhill effectively ended our possession in the final third.
I agree with 123 if he was coming on it should have been for Laurent
Then push Hannibal and Brownhill forward together. He just ended up being isolated on his own

He said, she said I think is the reality isn’t it? I don’t see how it can be proven so it’s only right the bloke didn’t get sent off. I just don’t see how it could be anything but that for Hannibal to react how he did.
Re: The Super Clarets vs Preston Match Thread
Not a penalty, in fact an excellent decision by the ref who overall I thought handled the game pretty well.
You keep playing the same team you keep getting the same results.
In the last 5 league games a burnley player has scored in one of them.
We are at the near the bottom of league of the league of XG, chances created, shots and midtable with goals which would mean no striker would really score many goals for us.
We continue to play Hannibal in a 10 who let’s be honest does not look like scoring or assisting much.
We have a manager who just makes like for like changes and a centre forward who doesn’t score enough goals on the left when
We have 3 wingers sat on the bench.
Iv never wished a manager to be sacked but he needs to go. It’s horrendous to watch

It’s difficult to prove it, but this fella is a known **** from this season alone.jedi_master wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2025 3:11 pmHe said, she said I think is the reality isn’t it? I guarantee some PKE fans will try to justify it by using Jay Rodriguez as an example when he faced similar allegations (even though he wasn’t a Burnley player at the time)
The difference being most people in the game know that Jay Rodriguez wouldn’t do that, where as this thug is a proven lunatic. He’s unhinged.

Re: The Super Clarets vs Preston Match Thread
That’s incorrect. His first touch was with the ball. Then he took out the man. In other areas of the pitch it would also not be a foul. It’s not exactly unusual for a player to win the ball before colliding with the opposition player.
Re: The Super Clarets vs Preston Match Thread
Enlighten us how we are 3rd then? And why it was a pen? We won midweek with the same team. And the league game before that.Burnley87 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2025 3:16 pmNot a penalty, in fact an excellent decision by the ref who overall I thought handled the game pretty well.

4 out of the last 5 games have been played against teams hoping to stay up or lower mid table Which in a very poor league with some of the talent we have in the squad is woeful returns

Re: The Super Clarets vs Preston Match Thread
That is incorrect. Edward won the the ball. Defender took him out Ball then brushed defenders foot and went out of play. Listen to Parker’s description. I think he knows the rules !!!!

Re: The Super Clarets vs Preston Match Thread
Parker only saw it twice. I think when he looks again more closely, he will see that the defender got the ball first. If it was at the other end of the pitch, I think you would have another point of view.
Re: The Super Clarets vs Preston Match Thread
It’s a decision that could have gone either way and I think VAR wouldn’t turn that decision around neither as he touched the ball so the decision in my opinion is a good call based on the time in the game and the fact he seen the defender take the ball he couldn’t be 100% sure

Show me a still at the defenders point of contact with the ball. If it’s pre contact with Edwards legs you are correct.

Re: The Super Clarets vs Preston Match Thread
Laurent is a good player, but I feel he tires and he's not the most "offensive" and changing him for Shelvey after 70 minutes would be a really positive move imo and could make all the difference in games like today. Edwards was a breath of fresh air when he came on and Preston were scared of him.
You can't squander guilt edged chances like we did today and expect to overhaul the top 2. We're so NEARLY a great team, but not quite!

We have drawn the same amount of games as we did in 22/23, we need to win 10 out of last 13 games to have any chance of finishing top

Re: The Super Clarets vs Preston Match Thread
The ref couldn’t do anything more than record what Hannibal has told him because nobody else heard what was said. They may get a lip reader in and see if they corroborate what Hannibal claims was said. From his reaction it’s hard not to believe him. The Preston players didn’t seem to be defending their player either as if they all believed he would have said it as reported by Hannibal.

Re: The Super Clarets vs Preston Match Thread
Well, that was pretty much a carbon copy of Pompey away, although we/Foster did miss two sitters.
The numbers don’t lie though; we simply don’t create enough and that’s on Parker and his playing system in my opinion.
Also not helped by too many attacking players and midfielders who don’t score or assist, so on that basis, why not change a few with the likes of Shelvey, Edwards, Benny not getting much/any game time.
The alternative is we keep trying the same thing which will inevitably lead to more 0-0’s and little chance of a top 2 finish.

This.BobbyBoucher wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2025 2:39 pmI said it when we got Edwards (he is borderline world class when fit and on his game) in no world should Foster be selected over him. Obviously Edwards hasn't played much for two months , but as soon as he can do 90mins he has to. Not on Parker for me this one. Any half decent championship striker buries those chances of Fosters.
Not normally critical of Parker but in what world do you leave a player like Edwards on the bench when you're in the championship? Don't accept the 'match fit' argument. On the last 2 occasions he looked a million times sharper than any of the attack. So for me, team selection is the reason we didn't win today. I feel sorry for Foster as well. He's being heavily criticised yet he is playing out of position. The last 5 minutes on Wednesday with Foster in the middle of the attack and Evans and Jaydon on the wings we looked like a team as good as the Vincent Kompany one. Yet after 48 hours between games he plays the original 11 again. Also with that pitch ( how can the Preston ground staff put a pitch like that out?) control of the ball was always going to be difficult and that showed in Flemming's/Laurent's play in particular. Not a good day at the office but we will get what we deserve at the end of the season.

Re: The Super Clarets vs Preston Match Thread
We haven’t got a finisher in the squad. It’s diabolical at this level. Flemming’s goals at Millwall were predominantly edge of box shots. Foster has never been a regular scorer throughout his career. Anthony shoots like he's crossing.
All of our MFers and Forwards should be doing 2 hrs finishing every training day. So many of our worst misses this season have been going for power when it was easier to pass it into the net.

How many players in our team (other than maybe two), could have played often for Sporting Lisbon. Yet we get one of their good players who gets 15 minutes today when we are crying for someone to change the game-and guess what we saw two good runs, plus a potential penalty from him
Re: The Super Clarets vs Preston Match Thread
Edwards is probably not match-fit yet, he's barely played all season. Transfermarkt is saying he's only had 412 minutes of football since the summer (and like 75 of those were for us), so my guess is Parker's trying to ease him in.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2025 5:32 pmHow many players in our team (other than maybe two), could have played often for Sporting Lisbon. That being said, him being a starter once he's got it in the tank to go for at least 70 minutes is a no-brainer. Anthony has not yet delivered any real consistency on the right (not through lack of trying at least, and Transfermarkt says he's primarily a Left Winger anyway?), but Edwards looks a real threat every time he gets on the ball and could be a really special player for us with enough time.
