If you should ever find yourself in East Anglia and see Nethergate Venture then it's well worth a slurp. Lovely malty taste. Nethergate make some cracking beers, their Stour Valley Gold is excellent as is their Essex Border Blonde

I highly recommend a visit to the Black Bull in Darwen. They have their own Three Bs brewery right behind the pub.
Doffcocker is really nice, Knockerup is great when it's on too.

Re: Beer appreciation thread.
Cruzcampo is Spanish in origin, though, unlike Madri. Coors, the brewers of Madri, are coming under some fire for false advertising etc over their promotion of Madri as a Spanish beer. As you say, not a single drop of it has ever been brewed or drunk in Spain.
Re: Beer appreciation thread.
It’s just a “spanish” style lager though isn’t it? Brewers make all sorts of things like this. Especially pilsners or helles.

Probably not available yet in Burnley but its very good and if you're out somewhere like Leeds or Manchester give it a go, you wont be disappointed

Just another rubbish cooking lager.

Re: Beer appreciation thread.
There really is a huge selection of great ales out there.
We were just discussing our younger days, when we started drinking in the mid 70s, the other night.
Whitbread Trophy, Stones, Brew Ten, Youngers Tartan, thankfully we also had some Tetley pubs in Skipton as the aforementioned were bloody dreadful.
Kirkstall Three Swords probably my current favourite.

In the 70s we used to get the bus out to the Marquis of Granby (between Keighley and Bingley) so we could sample the delights of Watney's red barrel.
Always been lucky though that we had Taylor's on our doorstep, it was a class pint even back then.

Re: Beer appreciation thread.
Some cracking beers on this thread.
On Madri, I’m sure I read somewhere that it was just Coors Light with extra hop extract added.
We’ve got a couple of interesting casks on at The Beer Necessities in Todmorden (apologies for the plug) - Pomona Island’s Mild Peril at 6% (anything but mild!) and Arbor Ales This Time Next Year Rodney which is a salted caramel and milk chocolate stout also at 6%. Not for the faint-hearted but both have been going well this weekend.

Apparently the illustrated man on the Madri logo isn’t even Spanish.

Re: Beer appreciation thread.
Never quite got the fetish for bizzare beer brands and chi chi IPA’s , or the snobbery of slagging off lagers. Most of the authentic and not so authentic “ premium “ lagers are almost indecipherable and “ decent “ from your Cobra’s , Tsing Tao’s and Estrella’s through to your Madri’s , Moretti et al.
That said I enjoy most beers and lagers as it’s the company/ occasion that matters . ( with the obvious exception of Budweiser )

As tarkys_ears pointed out Devils Advocate regurgitated a post he put a previous beer thread ... tarkys reply was quite amusing

Re: Beer appreciation thread.
Vague memories of early drinking Brew Ten at the Turf. There was a wooden hut located (I think) at the top of the old Beehole End. Whilst the hut was fitted with a beer pump I think they mainly stocked cans of Brew Ten which were decanted into plastic pint cups.Claretincraven wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2025 9:31 amThere really is a huge selection of great ales out there.

Living in Chester I have a taste for Weetwood ales brewed locally in Tarporley. My favourites are "Cheshire Cat" and "Eastgate" both available at Harker's Arms, a good hostelry on the canal just off City Road on the way into town from the station.

Re: Beer appreciation thread.
I would agree with StAlbansclaret - Vocation Bread & Butter is ace.
I would also recommend Tiller Pin by Wishbone Brewery in Keighley.
However, there are thousands of good real ale beers if you go to the right pubs.

Agree on Bread and Butter - it’s a cracking drop. Joe and Sarah at Hatters Bar in Burnley centre (a cracking little place for a pre-match pint) have it on permanently now for £3.50 a pint which I’m pretty sure is cheaper than Vocation do it at their own bars.
Not tried the Tiller Pin nonayclarets but will def seek it out!

Re: Beer appreciation thread.
Vocation is a load of ****. Why the love-in with it, I've no idea.
Bread and butter? A slice of bread and butter has more flavour than that. The rest of their "craft" is generic hopped **** water. Throw some hops in and see what happens.
There's too much "craft" these days and most of it the same generic, copy and paste shite.

Re: Beer appreciation thread.
There's no such thing as too much 'craft'. Craft beer has been good for the brewing industry. It's made people interested in beer again and this also benefits traditional brews.

Capt - Does the Harkers Arms have a good selection of whiskey? If so I’ve enjoyed both whiskey and beer in there. So much so I’m not quite sure its the pub I’m thinking of? The canalside location does ring a bell though
