I think he hinted at it pre game Oz….. said that it wouldn’t matter what him or the assistant manager said, the players would make the decisions. Wilder’s ****** this up. They haven’t managed the game. Got involved in an end to end game.

Probably the best result all round. Leeds look too good for this division even when they look bad...!

Apologies to Yorkshire Clarets I know it's not you but at least it'll be quiet next door.

Re: Sheff Utd v Leeds match thread
It’s in our hands. SU just rough housed Leeds for first 30mins. Ref went very easy on them but in the end the better side prevailed.
Hamer had an obvious second yellow and yet again, for him, the ref turns a blind eye.

Still not a formality that Leeds are going to run away with it - Sheffield United's time for a blip
We steam on now, beating them in the process - as they drop more points
2 best sides in this league by a mile are Leeds and us. These are the 2 that will go up automatically

Re: Sheff Utd v Leeds match thread
You've got to hand it to Leeds.
They've come back twice now against Sunderland and now against
Sheffield United. Deservedly so by all accounts.
Tonights' result just about cements the title for them.
Unless we win most, if not all our remaining games!

It worked a great first half, but they were committing 5s and 6s going forward whilst 1-0 up. You can do that against a team with so much pace and quality.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2025 9:57 pmI think he hinted at it pre game Oz….. said that it wouldn’t matter what him or the assistant manager said, the players would make the decisions. Hamer was a poor sub too. Obviously a talented lad, but no engine and apparently not fully fit. Why bring him on in a second half against Leeds?

Leeds are really good to watch when they hit form, it's a shame their fans sre obnoxious.

Can we avoid the points behind them both meltdown at 5pm on Saturday before we get a go in midweek please

Re: Sheff Utd v Leeds match thread
I have watched Sheff Utd over the last few games, when we have had different start times, and this is their best performance. They upped their game tonight and played it like a cup final. Hopefully will have the same effect as on Sunderland and knock the stuffing out of them for the next game.

Re: Sheff Utd v Leeds match thread
That was a great game to watch. Leeds had a really dodgy first half hour but they’re a very good team. They’ll deservedly win the Championship.
I’m still doubtful that Burnley will be able to win enough games to overtake Sheff Utd but it’s better they lost tonight than any other result.

Yep, Hamer and O’Hare struggle for legs. I think they were blowing after 30 minutes in most areas. Why did they bring him on? All they had alongside Davies to provide some midfield changes? Starters were all gone.agreenwood wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2025 10:02 pmIt worked a great first half, but they were committing 5s and 6s going forward whilst 1-0 up. I said from the off we wouldn't score enough and would come third or fourth. And a life time of experience has shown me that I'm never wrong with the possible exception of when I am.

Re: Sheff Utd v Leeds match thread
Watching Leeds tonight brought back memories of how good we were two years ago under Kompany. If they had a half decent keeper they'd be at least 10 points clear as Meslier is the biggest clown of a keeper this division has seen since that Kiraly clown played for us in his pyjamas
Re: Sheff Utd v Leeds match thread
Cooper's a very good keeper but when the commentator said only he could have kept out the shot at 1-1 I did have my doubts...
Re: Sheff Utd v Leeds match thread
Yet Meslier has kept 20 clean sheets.

I think that’s the best result for us, as much as I can’t stand dirty Leeds.
Hopefully it’ll knock the stuffing out of Sheffield United. They’d been riding their luck up until tonight.

Was it Hinchcliffe who said that? Makes a change from him just criticising players - you'd think he'd been a regular Ballon D'Or winner the way he feels he can criticise every player in every position.

Re: Sheff Utd v Leeds match thread
This Burnley side, with Edwards, for a full season, wins the league by 10 points. We have the best goalie, centre backs, defensive midfielder and (one) winger in the league. Our other players are good too but I’ll accept Leeds have as good.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2025 9:56 pmYep and Sunderland took 4 points of us but we're the better team and will finish ahead of them. Leeds are streets ahead of Burnley and everyone else in the league
Half a dozen, minimum, of those 0-0s are won if we had this side (let’s hope they stay injury free).
We were hamstrung by our players walking out in August. That will probably give Leeds the title, but I bet we finish closer to them than we are now.
As for Sheffield, well, Leeds are not a side to go toe to toe with. They did, we didn’t. We got 4 points.

Hard to see Burnley losing any games - never mind conceding
Those around us will drop points - even leeds
We just need that rotation of players that stuffed sheff weds - and we will start destroying sides and moving away from 3rd

Leeds on course to get over 100 points, you think if we signed Edwards a few months earlier we’d finish 10 points above them?

We’d be well above them if we’d have won a lot of the 0-0’s at home which we should have won. We aren’t as far away from them as people think.

Cooper is definitely a very good keeper but I would have fancied James Trafford to stop that.

Re: Sheff Utd v Leeds match thread
Yes.
Leeds will finish on about 96 I reckon. Teams always ease off when over the line.
Our fans always like to run down our team, not sure why. But we have (so far) a 4 division 150 year record defence. It isn’t outlandish to suggest that if we had added such a superstar back in August we’d be a dozen points better off and would have won the league at a canter. Feels fairly obvious to me, fitness permitting of course.
Very, very rare for such defences not to win trophies. We just went a bit blunt upfront.

I agree with you. With a decent striker we would be a better team than Leeds. I think half of the caution against the better sides results from a lack of confidence up front.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2025 10:25 pmYes.

And you can't blame them Flemming is not a real striker and Foster can't lead a line and is possibly half a yard slow to be Andre Gray albeit he is a powerful runner when he gets going.
It was obvious from the off and I think we are as likely as not to top Sheff Utd with a striker it would have been a foregone conclusion.
In my opinion I hasted to add.
Re: Sheff Utd v Leeds match thread
Why did the commentator make out the 3rd goal was a stunning strike when it fact it should have been a routine save most keepers should expect to make?

Off topic but can’t be arsed creating a thread about it… if city are charged with what they are accused of and probably guilty of and get relegated as an outcome ..will only 2 teams get relegated from the prem or is there a chance of 4 teams going up ?

Re: Sheff Utd v Leeds match thread
I said before the game that Leeds were capable of getting 3-4 goals tonight , and if so Wilder was the weakest of the three (Farke, Parker and Wilder-they all rhymn by the way) at man managing and motivating his team. Even in the pre -match Wilder looked like he was not in control. I believe going forwards in the next dozen or so games that the managers of these three clubs including ourselves will have a big say on their teams getting promoted. As has been said on this post Sheff Utd have now already lost 6 games, thats more than us and Leeds put together
