Fan Board meeting from last night
Not sure if George was going to post this here so I've just downloaded from Twitter just in case he doesn't, seems I have to do it across two posts

It would help to get the atmosphere going before KO if they stopped playing loud music right up to the 1st ball being kicked! It's very difficult to get the crowd up for the game when it seems that the playing of loud music is an attempt to damped/control any crowd involvement pre-ko!

Thanks for sharing Vegas. Looks like I'll finally get to say goodbye to my wooden seat in the CFS!

Re: Fan Board meeting from last night
How is a non club bought flag any more of a fire safety risk that the clothes that people wear….Aren’t they equally as flammable?
Also it doesn’t really stack up that every stadium in Germany has fan made flags all over the stadium (combined with flares) and that’s safe, but in Burnley it’s not?
Bizarre.

Re: Fan Board meeting from last night
Most of it sounds pretty reasonable
2 things of note
1) As posted above, seems to be a bit of contradiction with flags. Hopefully this can be sorted. European terraces look great with the flags
2) I like the idea of an anthem, but wild rover isn't the answer. We manage no nay never pretty well without any backing music already, and it'd just be plain weird to play the exact same thing as blackburn pre match. I still think the Hollies- the air that I breathe would work very nicely

What has any of that actually achieved. These meetings are an absolute box ticking exercise as shown by the introduction of goal music. I'm fairly sure if they'd consulted with the fans and actually listened to the feedback then they wouldn't have considered it.

Goal music is league 1 shite. Need to bin it asap.
As for the audio set up being too expensive that’s fair enough but it shows how skint we must be. Cant see it being more than 50k

Re: Fan Board meeting from last night
Not a dig, but for who? If we're using music to get the crowd going, the reality is it needs to be aimed at the supporters who are likely to keep singing the most. I'm not seeing coked/bevvied up Gen Z'ers as being big fans of The Hollies. Which is the similar issue with some of the other weird and wonderful songs they've tried in the last couple of years. They may be great songs, but it has to appeal to the demographic that's going to get the atmosphere going.Roosterbooster wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 2:51 pm2) I like the idea of an anthem, but wild rover isn't the answer. In the current game I'm not that sure it makes much difference anyway. So many night games lately and people not getting to their seats until the last minute doesn't help. Same really for the end of games with everyone rushing off regardless of the score.
First of all they need to get people in seats 10 minutes before the game starts. No idea how they do that. If you can manage that, play the uplifting song to time it to be coming to an end as the players emerge from the tunnel. The as Leisure says, cut the music. It's not needed.
I sometimes think it's change for changes sake. We don't need an anthem over the tannoy. Other teams do and good luck to them, but they've been coming out to them for years. Times Like These and the poem read by Jordan North were fine. Get the players out, then leave it to the fans.

Arrsenal introduced theirs within the last season or two and the entire ground sings it (other than the away end). Another example of someone using health and safety to justify a particular position. So many holes in this argument we could manufacture it and market it as a new type of collander.JR1882 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 2:41 pmHow is a non club bought flag any more of a fire safety risk that the clothes that people wear….Aren’t they equally as flammable?

Re: Fan Board meeting from last night
Good write up and fascinating in places.
Safe standing - not mentioned was the limited capacity overall of the home end of the CFS. That needs aligning with the away end to fit more in, and if as stated before it is health and safety demands, those need addressing as an urgency, in that it affects atmosphere hugely. Blades, like Wednesday, will sell out there end and that numbers superiority will drown out our bit of the stand and give them more chance to go up.
Catering - first time I have heard (in 20 years) that the lack of decent food is due to a lack of air extraction for frying. Sounds plausible, but also depressing. What clown built that into the original stand design? Doesn’t give me any confidence for the next decade I won’t be having to choose between various crap heart attack inducing foods. Maybe turn some of the carpark into a “BFC Kitchen” instead where fans can buy Levy-made food and take it inside? Can’t be unsolvable.

Re: Fan Board meeting from last night
Good of him to do a write-up of the meeting but I’d be more interested in how the board are managing the debt levels and the financial outlook rather than having an extensive debate between Wild Rover and Freed from Desire.
Re: Fan Board meeting from last night
Ah another meeting where the FAB just nod along and agree with whatever the board say. Don't ask them anything they can't tell you though, they know things, but its not for your ears.

Re: Fan Board meeting from last night
Personally really dislike the idea of playing Wild Rover through the PA before games. Extremely cringe-worthy.

Also didn't the club mess up with Portsmouth tickets? No option to choose between seating and safe standing.

Thanks for sharing.
Hopefully the FAB can recognise that some of us actually miss goal music, rather than trying to assume everyone is a miserable bugger and get rid of it. Not that I approve of the current music.

My experience on match days is that the group of gen z'ers you refer to are already the most vocal bunch. They are going to keep singing regardless.ChorltonCharlie wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 3:38 pmNot a dig, but for who? It's the rest of the masses we need to appeal too.
Maybe the hollies is too far back still. Id go back to Tubthumping. Closest thing to ours we've got.

Music - Tubthumpin’ is fine. Times like these is fine. Wild Rover could be ok. The Hollies song about post nuptial bliss is just odd. Whatever it is, it has to stop before the teams come out.
Catering - the extraction thing has nothing to do with getting sensibly priced pies warm at the right time or providing the correct lids for cups as they’re legally required to do.
As for the ticket office improvements - The shambles over season ticket renewals, seat swaps and closing all phone lines is not an improvement.

Re: Fan Board meeting from last night
Wild rover before the game - NO, we don’t need it we can manage that one pretty well without any music thanks. Nor do we want to do the same as them down the road, no NEIGH never.
Goal music - NO. It’s just tinpot.
Let the fans make some of their own flags and if you need to then vet them before they can enter the ground for the first time maybe?
I think dulling the music off before kick off would help so the fans can make some noise theirselves .
Cheaper beer will probably help the situation

Re: Fan Board meeting from last night
I tried to explain to my son (30) why flags aren't allowed in grounds the other day. You see some at OT. We see some when we play away.
The tifo (banner) of Sir Tom Finney at Deepdale was class and is typical of continental stadia.
Flags and banners make a ground "home" IMHO.

Re: Fan Board meeting from last night
Just play " oh when your smiling" really used to reverberate around the Turf and TBH I've never heard any other team sing it.

Re: Fan Board meeting from last night
It's not really anthemic though. When you hear the great anthems, they aren't fast, loud, "banging". They have melody and a pace that encourages the words to be sung. The air that I breathe, despite being old, ticks all the boxes I think. Getting a few thousand belting that out would sound incredible

Re: Fan Board meeting from last night
The air that I breathe is about being content living without all the usual pleasures in life, just as long as you have the one thing you really love. Substitute the thing for Burnley, and it's a clear message that makes perfect sense. I don't think it makes any reference to being married whatsoever. Also, I think if you want a literal message to fit, you have to write you're own songLincsWoldsClaret wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 5:53 pmMusic - Tubthumpin’ is fine. Times like these is fine. Tubthumpin's message is get ****** and have a fight and get up again. And can you imagine us trying to sing that as an anthem? It'd sound ridiculous
Re: Fan Board meeting from last night
Tubthumping and the Hollies. Jeez. I'd stick with what we've got.
Re: Fan Board meeting from last night
Strange one this as some songs that shouldn't work sound great. An example being Mull of Kintyre which is sung at Forest just before kick off.
Sunshine on Leith, as sung by Hibs also sounds great - check out this being sung after their victory over Celtic at the weekend. This also has the benefit of being about their local area.
That said I'd plump for a bit of Elvis and The Wonder of You - anthemic, easy to sing along too and uplifting just before the match starts.

Take them to the club and get some sort of badge sticker or patch put on them that you show at the turnstile.

Re: Fan Board meeting from last night
Music right up to literal KO is horrendous as it kills the natural anticipation ,surely a min or 2 before ? The “after music “ also dulls the reception ( or not ) for the players from the fans imo . It’s been hard work with so many midweek games though ,but please not Wild Rover ffs!
The club “ pricing up “ extractor fans sounds utterly tin pot as does the PA “ eye watering “ prices . We’re chasing prem league and can’t even have a decent PA and passable food?

Re: Fan Board meeting from last night
I think we should play “ Money, Money Money” by ABBA
at the end of the game if we win. It’s a nice upbeat tune everyone can sing along too, and encapsulates what it’s like to savour the fruits of victory.
Conversely if we lose how about “Been Down So Long” by the Doors. I think Jim would would aptly sum up our collective desperation.

Well, if you’re being literal, then ‘box ticking’ would only apply if the club were mandated to hold such meetings, which they aren’t.Milltown1882 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 8:51 pmAnother FAB meeting full of hot air and nothing we didn’t already know again then? Literally a box ticking exercise.

Times like these finishing just before the team walked out with the accompanying video of our best moments I thought was brilliant - hairs on the back of the neck stuff.
'Freed from desire' is bloody tinpot.
As for the rest? The definition of a box-ticking exercise, 'here's what we're doing whether you like it or not, thanks for coming'. A complete waste of time.

The PA system is awful and if anything should be working properly it’s that!
Chips? Songs? It’s a whoosh from me, and as for Wild Rover a definite no no!
Atmosphere…. score some goals, give us something exciting to watch, and fans will do the rest.
Think we’ll have to agree to disagree on some of the points raised, every one has their opinion to which they are entitled.

This isn't rocket science. Look at away ends, they're just as loud as they were. Why? Because it's predominantly groups of men that have travelled and had several pints.
In Europe you have flares and flags etc, but also...beer is readily available and allowed on the concourse/in the stands. Im not saying it's a good or bad thing, but like it or not kids and families sans booze make less noise.
There are other factors like style of play, less physical games, less standing etc. But to not mention the above is missing the obvious.

I'd like to see 'Firestarter' The Prodigy with it being made compulsory for the Bob Lord to start it off.
Re: Fan Board meeting from last night
"Firestarter" plays and then all the "flammable" flags spontaneously combust. The "official club shop non-flammable" flags remain to spell out "let's hear it for Buuuuuurnley (but don't stand up in certain areas or else we'll take your season ticket off you.)"Woonderbah wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 9:49 pmI'd like to see 'Firestarter' The Prodigy with it being made compulsory for the Bob Lord to start it off.
