I have recently attended games in Spain and the beer that is sold in the ground is non alcoholic and I thought that was the case in the rest of Europe?
I was at games in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands over the weekend and you could drink a beer in your seat at all 3 if you wanted to. Done it in Denmark and Italy in the past too.

Just play " oh when your smiling" really used to reverberate around the Turf and TBH I've never heard any other team sing it.

I always used to like carmina burana before kick off. It got the adrenaline going.

Apparently: it's an unofficial anthem at Leicester City Football Club, adopted by fans in the 1980s. As of 2022, the recording by Jersey Budd is played before the start of each home match.

That Leicester version is horrific.

I hope it sounded better on the Longside.

"Firestarter" plays and then all the "flammable" flags spontaneously combust. The "official club shop non-flammable" flags remain to spell out "let's hear it for Buuuuuurnley (but don't stand up in certain areas or else we'll take your season ticket off you.)"

Would look great.

You'd think theYanks would have nailed the catering by now. But we've got the same catering offer as we had in the fourth division.

Tems crisps and ‘Big Time’ plastic cartons of pop. Hot dogs served in half a burger bun. Good times!

Definitely not the case in Germany. At Eintracht there's a choice of Pils, Weizen, Eppelwoi (cider), wine. All definitely alcoholic. The atmosphere is absolutely incredible too.

I've asked before, but how many clubs serve chips or even burgers on the concourse, which is why there is no extraction system, it wasn't, and isn't needed. If you want chips, or burgers there are plenty of outlets around the ground, or on the way to the ground.

Imagine the reaction to being served chips in a box done in a microwave.

Arrsenal introduced theirs within the last season or two and the entire ground sings it (other than the away end). Just because we haven't doesn't mean we shouldn't
If we had top local musical talent like Louis Dunford who came up with a song like The Angel about the Burnley area we'd have a chance, but as far as I know we don't. Even then, pretty sure you'll find that song organically was taken on by the fans, and not forced on them by some guy in a suit.

People demanding better catering would be the same people complaining when it costs north of £10 for a burger and chips. It might not be perfect but as people have pointed out, there’s plenty of alternatives close to the ground.

I try not to be critical of the FAB as they're doing something in good faith to try and help the club (and something I wouldn't do). I just think there's some value in recognising that there is a disconnect between the type of fan who volunteers because they want to help and the type who could tell the club what they actually need to hear about the atmosphere ie the atmosphere is low because the football is boring, it won't get that much better even if the football's exciting and the club has incredibly limited influence (especially musically) over how good it is.

Suppose I'd rather hear The Dubliners than the club's far too recent idea to play Kanye pre kick-off mind.

The catering isn’t THAT bad tbf ,let’s face it chips have never really been a thing in grounds . Corporate catering demands fast turnaround and high margins and the physical space we have just doesn’t allow for safety ,time, variety or even a scintilla of basic comfort.
They want high individual “ per queuer “ spends £15-25 etc not single hot dog sales . Can you imagine the indignation of the curmudgeons being asked to pay £9.99 for quality pie n peas for eg ?

The reality is football here in England has become too sterile and corporate. It’s largely family orientated now, with high prices, all seated, and no alcohol. There’s arguments for and against that approach, but everything is geared not to create an atmosphere.

The suggestions of flags, music etc are all options, but the reality is it’s not going to make that much of an improvement. We can still try, of course.

To really improve the atmosphere will involve turning the clock back 30 years, changes in legislation, and I just don’t think there’s any appetite at all from those running the game to do that whatsoever.

Personally I'm not a fan of a pre match anthem, I think in the big games the atmosphere organically builds and I am sure that will be the same against Sheffield United when we play them. I don't know why the club seem to be struggling to accept that not every game is a going to be a big game, is the Turf realistically going to be rocking playing Oxford United at home on a Tuesday?

Against Sheffield Wednesday it was a great atmosphere I thought once we finally got going, spoilt by the goal music - especially Benson's goal which was drowned out by the goal music. We all know the areas of the stadium that create atmosphere, we need to be leaning towards those areas, seeing what the fans in those areas want and that will naturally cascade around the ground.

Ultimately it starts with the players on the pitch, we play very cautious football with not a lot of end product - I am not moaning either we are 3rd in the league I think the team are doing great, it just doesn't exactly get you going at times.

I don’t know why they stopped doing peas. Profit on the peas must be enormous and the pea juice helped to soften the rock-hard, burnt crusts on the pies.

It's a tough one for the club but I'm not sure they have quite the right focus. For me they'd be better off making the match day experience better instead of trying to "artifically" generate atmosphere. Atmosphere is so much more than just noise.

If Sheff Wed was classed as a great atmosphere then football has deteriorated even more than I thought. I was shocked at how bad it was for large parts.

I thought the second half was a lot better. First half was understandably subdued as it looked like our unbeaten at home streak was coming to an end. Once we looked dangerous going forward and started scoring goals, the atmosphere naturally got better which is my whole point before that the atmosphere reacts to the football on the pitch.

It's poor at most grounds

I remember when Liverpool fans didn't need a recording of gerry and the pacemakers blasting out in order to sing you'll never walk alone

Flag issue is a joke.

Music - not fussed but not Wild Rover for sure! The when you're smiling seems a good shout, if they must. Alternatively, without the words, of course, In our Lancashire Home (as the words would be Liverpool!)

Otherwise, who cares?

It does work well for Leicester and Nottingham Forest etc. Perhaps the fans should start singing whichever and that might stop the need for club involvement.

I’m not sure I get the ‘understandably subdued as it looked like our unbeaten home streak was coming to an end’.

Are we saying that decent support can only come when playing well, when winning? Surely, the whole twelfth man thing is most important in exactly those situations.

I get that great performances from the players can lift an atmosphere, but it works both ways. It shouldn’t be on the players performance to instigate an atmosphere from the crowd.

Efforts from the club all feel a bit forced - I’m for appropriate entrance music, timed correctly and toned down so as not to drown out the crowd. Or perhaps something pre kick off, after the entrance, providing it’s something that instigates singing from the crowd.

Goal music for me is just pointless and pretty tin pot - music just isn’t needed at the time of a goal. What also isn’t needed is the multiple ‘let’s hear it for Burnley’ - it riles me every time I hear him screeching it.

The first 30 minutes looked like an if not when they were scoring, we were very lucky to ride that out. A more clinical team would have put us to bed inside 10 minutes.

Very much used by Rangers (therefore would cause a lot to not want it) but I used to love ‘Simply the Best’ (I know the official title is ‘The Best’) being played in the 4th Division days.

I’m not disputing that. The point was, that was the time that support would have been most beneficial to the team, not when we started to get on top in the second half.

I don’t know why they stopped doing peas. Profit on the peas must be enormous and the pea juice helped to soften the rock-hard, burnt crusts on the pies.
Could make a nice and interesting pre-match food count. Guessing how many peas served throughout the ground and how much ml of joooooos altogether 😁

As for the pre match music, I used to love seeing the players walk out to Arcade Fire, Led Zeppelin and even Van Halen's Jump in the Chris Waddle era. It used to stop before kick off and then the crowd went wild to try and whip up the atmosphere. The Halcyon Days.

As for the argument of either the players getting the fans going by playing more aggressive, attacking football to get the crowd whipped up. I believe it should be the crowd trying to get the players up and moving just as much. Maybe when it's a bit dull to watch, then maybe the crowd chatting 'Attack, Attack, Attack' on repeat may get the ground shaking and the players being more positive.

We do lack our own anthem though as well. Maybe Depeche Mode's Never Let Me Down could be it?

Couldn't agree more.

It'll probably have an effect on the natural singing 'No Nay Ever' also.
How long have we been singing NNN for? Fifty years at least? More?

And suddenly we need a backing track?

Can't believe the FAB didn't laugh when it was suggested. Unless they suggested it themselves and if so - mindboggling.

Wild Thing by Oliver Reed, now that’s one we can belt out & one the players could like.

Where Dave Gahan talks about "my best friend" the 'best friend' could be BFC. May sound cheesy to some, but hey ho!
Not sure how it'd sound being sung at 1000BPM with our fans though 🤔

Is there not scope for a competition of sorts? Local bands to write a song following a brief, vote, cash prize and the song played before games. At least then it would feel homegrown and not just a song shoehorned in from anyone from anywhere.

North London Forever was written and released by an Arsenal fan and fans started singing it ad-hoc I believe. Now played before every game.

Afghans, I believe.

Dogs though - not the people.
