Oldham v Burnley 1974
Apparently this is a photo of Burnley fans on their way to Oldham. Anyone put names to this band of fans?

Can't work out if the bay city rollers guy has "Denis" or "penis" inked on his jeans.

The white bell bottom trousers must've been brand new that morning.
They'll have got a ketchup stain by midday and never worn again.

If they all stood on top of the bus they'd arrive via wind power.
Re: Oldham v Burnley 1974
There was a huge pitch invasion that day by Burnley fans before kick off. It seemed like hundreds and hundreds of Clarets charging across the pitch to 'take' the Oldham end.

Yes, I was at that game- on a long side. There was a small group of Clarets in the Oldham end to my left and a fair bit of fisticuffs going on. Main body of Clarets were in the opposite end and a large number decided to go across the pitch to join the smaller element. At least it was before the game started.

I was on that bus that day.
On that photo was Billy Kerr, Tex and Gaz Grogan, Dave Atkinson , Mick Howarth, Dek Hanley.
I didn't go back on the bus back to Burnley that day,
I spent the night in Oldham's finest clink !

We were in the covered end and there was a massive charge of Burnley fans from the opposite open end about 10 minutes before kick off. 0-2 up after about 5 minutes, both headed goals by Dobo and Paul Fletcher down our end. Both crosses supplied by Leighton James making a fool of Ian Wood, their full back who earlier in the week told the media that he could deal with 'Taffy' on his own.

Re: Oldham v Burnley 1974
The most spectacular end takeover I have witnessed. Burnley fans went down the side terrace, charged Oldham and were joined by hundreds, thousands going across the pitch, the Oldham fans fleeing to the other side terrace. Good result, as well. 4-1. I recall that Andy Lochhead scored for Oldham.

What a great picture , over 50 yrs ago. Intersesting too that lads used to “ dress” even in those early days of football agro.
Presume this was the fa cup game 73/74 season ? We had a very tidy side . I think Liverpool won it 3-0 vs Newcastle as my 1st season I truly followed as 7/8yo and Newc beat us in the semi or was that 74-75 season ??

Re: Oldham v Burnley 1974
It wasn't so much Wood but his manager Jimmy Frizzell who told the media that Taffy wouldn't get a kick because his right back Wood was so good. It was in the papers that morning and Adamson let Taffy read it. Taffy got past Wood three times in the opening minutes, crossed three times and we scored three times. No one has a clue to this day why the other goal was disallowed.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2025 10:11 pmWe were in the covered end and there was a massive charge of Burnley fans from the opposite open end about 10 minutes before kick off. 0-2 up after about 5 minutes, both headed goals by Dobo and Paul Fletcher down our end. Just over six years later we signed Ian Wood. He hadn't improved.

Billy "bungalow" Kerr on the left, what a character he was, labelled tarzan at on stage for his attempts to make freinds with the away fans in the longside, I had a very interesting away trip to Linclon (well Retford police station with him and few other Accy roaders once upon a time).

Re: Oldham v Burnley 1974
As teenagers Billy and me and our crew went everywhere with the Clarets.
Too many stories to tell but all were full of laughs and epic drinking sessions.
Lost contact with Bill now, hope he's ok.
