Re: Jos Buttler stands down
A good decision, excellent 1 day batsman but very poor captain. Replacement will be difficult to find

Decent player on his day but they have been few and far between over recent years.

The only trouble with cricket captaincy, is that it rarely comes available when things are going well.

So who’s responsible for the lack of preparation, playing golf instead of nets and picking players who haven’t played before ?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2025 2:20 pmI don’t agree he’s a poor captain, he’s just taken over during a period of transition.

Jos did a decent job. We need to stop selecting our best players and making them captains, it doesn’t come naturally to many. Mike Brearley was one of our best captains but a long way off being our best player.

Re: Jos Buttler stands down
Every England player had a net the day before the game, they even gave this out on the commentary.
The biggest problem was the selection of too many similar bowlers, not enough variation, and under performance with the bat from many players.

To me it's far deeper than that. Under McCullum there is zero consequences for poor shot selection and game management.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2025 3:02 pmI would think the coaches and whoever selects the players.
This goes right back to the Ashes where we were pulverising the Aussies, and out of desperation they went to bowling shortt pitched stuff, and about 5 of our batmen all got out out of pure arrogance and hideous game management, duck and dive for an hour and we'd have probably won that test.
It's the same in the 1 day arena, players like salt and Livingstone completely flatter to deceive, they hit a couple of decent shots then play a shot a club cricketer would regret and somehow retain their places game after game.
Root showed exactly how to bat in a 50 over game against Afghanistan, problem is there's very few who have that temperament, or the application to bat like that...and the bowling...don't even get me started

Someone will be along shortly to ask if you'd rather watch Chris Tavare.Andreshotboots wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2025 6:54 pmTo me it's far deeper than that. Under McCullum there is zero consequences for poor shot selection and game management.
