This was local enough to matter. Add in the racist. Disgusting from Parker. We've not competed at all. Opinions on Parker are mixed as it is, he does not have the credit in the bank like Dyche did when tossing off a cup match. There needs to be an apology to the travelling support and a response on Tuesday. It is promotion or nothing for him.

Poor performance and tactics from Parker. Preston fully deserved the win. But not the end of the world, we move on in the league.

Not really all that matters though, is it? A cup game, against local rivals, while their ‘star man’ is being investigated for racist abuse directed at one of our players? Joke of a lineup and a joke of a performance.

Crap today, but there's some pretty childish overreactions on here. Most of this team are well short of match fitness, and it's shown. Clearly the priority is the league, and Parker has used this match (like all the other cup matches this season) as an opportunity to get some minutes in to the fringe players. I'm surprised so many seemed to be expecting anything different.

I would agree if we were mid-table and going nowhere. Tuesday is much, much bigger than this game - therefore, it's not disrespectful at all. It's pragmatic - just like it was when we were managed by Dyche.
We play plenty of midweek games in this league without having to rest players on a Saturday. He didn't need to make wholesale changes and yes, it is disrespectful to the thousands that travelled to field a bunch of reserves that played terrible.

Its a game I want to clearly forget-I usually feel better the next day. For me today, our fringe players showed just why they are fringe players-Sonne, Hladky, Worral, Pires,Koleosho . THe rest of the team showed little fight and spirit. I know Foster has taken abuse today, but for me he was the only one on it today and bursting a gut to achieve something

3 things today
1. We need a new set piece coach
2. No player who started today should start for the rest of the season
3. Scott Parker in 100% focused on automatic promotion.

Hladky, Sonne, Worrall, Shelvey, Benson, Sarmiento, Koleosho aren't regular starters and Pires is playing at the moment due to the Humphreys injury.

Reading are a division below so not the same situation.

Not surprised by the team selection but massively disappointed by the performance. The only positive was to hear so many Clarets calling out a racist.

Parker is putting a lot on his shoulders

Grind out results even if that means playing sideways and backwards = "His aim is promotion, that's all that matters"

Play a disjointed and powderpuff line-up in the FA Cup 5th Round, get battered = "His aim is promotion, that's all that matters"

Over to you Scott, it'd better work out come May.

Yet another game where Parker sets up with a 2 man midfield and the result is we are worse off. We have a much better balance when we have 3 CMs on the pitch.

Very poor game from Worral. He had zero idea of the danger around him for the 2nd and 3rd goal and reacted far too late. Simple defending from him and those goals wouldn't have happened.

A much changed team, but the squad should have been able to beat that lot. But to be hammered like that is embarrassing for all involved

Lots saying how strong a squad we have

Now lots are saying the opposite

With our strongest side we have drawn with Preston twice, so making 8 changes did not bode well for this game so one can only assume the game was viewed as getting some legs in players and a win was nothing more than a bonus..

That team on paper should have laced anything Preston had to offer

Lack of minutes against a team that plays together every week is what the difference was

We all have hindsight … but that starting 11 was strong …

But I would never had started our starters with a vital game in 3 days

Good comment worth a repost.

Just left the pub in Preston. More relaxed now.

10 minutes after the draw I posted here that it was a huge risk for Parker and I sensed he would stuff it up with a terrible decision that would alienate a chunk of our fans.

I was right.

He will claim promotion is the priority.

Ok then. It is what I have said all season with the defensive dross. Promotion.......or the sack.

Note to the board - the fans decide this, not you. When the fans turn it is irrecoverable.

Massive error today playing all those lightweights up front vs PNE on a paddy field. I like Scotty, but is he clever enough?

**** poor performance. 2nd best in every department, beaten by the better side on the day. All on SP obviously, as I believe our “first team” would have won. If we don’t take 3points against a poor Cardiff team on Tuesday, ( especially as they are severely struck with injuries ), it’s gonna look like the playoffs, as it looks like Blades are on their way to another win at QPR.

The issue was playing a side that moved away from the fundamentals this team has been built on all season. The central midfield three (whoever that is) gives us the platform to control games, it protects the back four and wins the battle in the middle of the park. A three of Shelvey, Brownhill and Sarmiento was never going to be able to do that, especially on a pitch where ball players can be closed down quicker due to having to take an extra touch.

There is no hindsight, as we had played the same opposition, on the same pitch, with a game that went exactly the same way just two weeks earlier. Preston are a decent Championship team who are in your faces from minute one, our team selection handed them the upper hand and we got just what we deserved due to that.

I think it just proves what the sensible people on here have said all season.

Forster is a decent (ish) player but he's not number 9: bullied and looked like he was running with lead in his boots today.

Brownhill really is all about late runs and goals. He can't play in a double pivot at this level.

For all his failings Laurent is important in that double pivot.

Kolosheo continues to have little end product.

Add to that what we are now learning namely the reason why Shelvey has been pottering around the Turkish league for the last few years.

It was a nothing game and of no real interest before Parker made his team selection after that it was just 90 mins of meh.

Preston proved again they are a decent outfit and a second string 11 was never going to beat them on their own patch. It's all about Tuesday now

He’s paid to get promotion……..end of (for him and us).

With this squad, if he does all well and good……

If not……..after watching what we’ve watched……….

Well………………but that’s fair enough, so the focus now is the league and it’s in our hands.

With our strongest side we have drawn with Preston twice, so making 8 changes did not bode well for this game so one can only assume the game was viewed as getting some legs in players and a win was nothing more than a bonus..
Precisely.
But it does insult the fans who pay to watch a competitive game rather than a squad fitness session (in which we really did very badly).

For all his failings Laurent is important in that double pivot.

Kolosheo continues to have little end product.
Today once again highlighted that both Laurent and Koleosho are poor footballers.

Laurent looked so exposed in a midfield two. He’s not a good passer of the football, isn’t comfortable in possession and lacks any kind of footballing nous.

Koleosho came up against someone who was equally as quick as he was….and he had absolutely nothing else he could offer. He’s clumsy and indecisive and we’re a much poorer team with him in it.

Anybody who paid, thinking our best team was going to be playing would have been better not going
