Dont mind getting knocked out if we put a good show-that was dreadful. No running through brickwalls for the manager in that one I'm afraid

Disappointing but understandable . They could play their full team and have nothing else to play for . Some of ours short on recent game time and it showed at times . At least we miss the 0.6 defeat at man city in next round 😲

People we're just as upset and annoyed when we went out of the cup with a similar whimper against Watford under Stan. It's frustration, not 'entitlement'.

The difference back then was that Stan was trying to juggle and manage the likes of Branch, Roche and Jebsen etc rather than players of the ability we have at the club now.

Just got in in Chiang Rai. Disappointed by the deficit, but let's be honest, it was their first team and our shadow squad. Teams who go up always lose heavily once or twice. In 1972-73, we lost at Forest 3-0. This is our 3-0 this season. We may not lose again this season.

We need promotion this season for the £100 million plus Sky money even if we come straight back down
If we don’t get promoted this season or next , we will slide down the divisions as the owners will run out of money to keep the club afloat

We were outplayed today by a team that were physically stronger, probably made fewer changes and have lost once in nineteen at home. It was nowhere near as bad as Watford.

We have fans that have forgotten, or don't know what it is like to lose to teams of a similar standard, such has been our own success of recent exploits.

The players we have picked today show how difficult it is to have a squad to compete when called upon.

Most of our success comes with choosing from 14/15 players.

I find the line up and performance disrespectful. Will forgive but I can't fathom the need to play a weaker team and not go for it.

Shows lack of respect for traveling fans

Shows lack of respect to kids and fans who haven't been to Wembley in 16 years and we had the potential for rota.

Shows lack or respect to Preston

Shows lack of respect of great competition

Shows lack of understanding of being a football fan and paying money to watch.

Iam gutted and angry and my son is too.

Honestly I'd rather win a cup than get promoted. Laugh at me, but it means more to me than getting battered each week in the Prem.

Why, when we can give players not featuring regulary game time?

We had 'weakened' squads at Reading and Southampton, and the lads earnt there wins. Good for competitive match fitness for the lads waiting in the wings.

Parker stressed how much he knows and understands the importance of derbies but still went with that lineup today. Absolutely baffled. We haven’t lost there since 09 and now we’ve just been battered there.

Some familiar names on here were saying C J Egan Riley should be nowhere near the first team at the start of the season when he got his chance due to injuries ….

He and all the players today need a run in the team to get some match fitness… you can’t judge on one game

Was always a risk today playing so many of the second string with little to no match minutes but it needed to be done as the league needs to be prioritised

Calm down

Same vibes as the Watford quarter final today. Awful performance and stunk of Parker wanting to get minutes in the legs of some players and resting others. Thought we'd be really up for it today, how wrong was I?

Parker isn't a Burnley fan - he might gain an affinity to the club over time but he's made a decision based on priorities. This board would be in low orbit if we'd played several first teamers and we'd suffered an injury. Even if we had there was no guarantee we'd have won.

Instead he gave players valuable match time. True many didn't perform well but that's possibly because they need match time and haven't gelled. It hurts because as fans we lost to rivals. Thankfully Parker doesn't have that metric, he's trying to chase down Sheff Utd as a priority.

Not unforgiveable but incredibly disappointing in a game I thought we'd edge. A concern how poor that team turned too be. It was hardly like we threw the kids in. It looked a good line up on paper. In fairness Trafford would surely have covered Brady's kick and the second i think only happened because of the ref didn't stop play after the PNE player collapsed after the ball to the head from short range. At 2-0 down the game was realistically gone. We didn't look @r5ed after that.

But concerning that we've conceded 3 and been well beaten for first time this season. The worry is it turns the tide generally. Massive opportunity against Cardiff to get back on track, but equally a massive chance it confirms us as play off candidates only.

To be fair, Parker has changed the squad for every FA Cup game. To rest the first team and give other players game time.

So he was always clearly more focused on the League than the Cup. But the Cup games have given our 2nd string some competitive match time, and they did well up until today.

The Stan one at Watford, I am also still angry about that one, both Little & Blake on the bench. But the difference then was we were in the bottom half of the table, one of the poorer sides in the League. We had a chance to get a big semi final and the first big thing for years, we were also financially crippled after the ITV Digital bust.. so we needed the money too.

Now we are fighting for promotion to the PL and one of the stronger teams in the League. But we're in a very tight fight, with Sheff Utd & maybe Leeds/Sunderland.

We've also had big things since, such as a playoff win at Wembley.. cup runs to the quarters & Semis under Coyle. Been a consistent PL team and even got into Europe.

Today stings abit but no where near like the Watford game. Get automatic Promotion and today will be forgotten about. UTC!

I could only see what the tv coverage showed but that free kick looked near perfect. I think it's harsh to blame the keeper for it and remember feeling similar when people were saying that Trafford should have saved the goal Weimann scored against us. Sometimes you can't save them.

Or maybe they are just ****** off having just been thumped by a bang average Championship side when an FA cup quarter final could have been achieved!

Personally I have zero interest in this ‘I’m a better supporter than you’ mentality that your message alludes to.

Can we not just say it how it is, that was utter shite today and whilst I do appreciate the league is more important, my view of Parkerball is somewhat strained to say the least! As for being entitled, don’t you think that we should now expect better than many of our performances this season?

20 years ago, when we were shite, expectations were lower, but we have been serial winners at this level for a while now, but despite our incredible defensive record this season, we often look toothless and quite frankly boring to watch.

I’m sick and tired of watching us pass sideways and backwards for no reason other than to keep possession allowing the opposition to recover their shape. It’s often awful to watch in my opinion and any team’s style of play comes from the top so it is Parker’s responsibility to either make it work or change.

Angry today at that performance and his decision to rest players now has to pay off in midweek or else what was the point!

People keep making excuses for Parkers team selection and player performance citing the league being more important (which I agree) but our cup run under Coyle IMO fuelled our league performances and I feel prepared us for what is do or die football in the play offs, no excuses for me today, we knew what to expect from PNE, they would bully us be as physical as possible and play direct so why put out a team containing so many pussies who don`t like that environment, Soto`n away was different as they are a footballing side who we matched but today was a different beast and Parker was found wanting in his team selection and tatics

Trouble is when other teams throw matches in the cup it does put a bit more pressure on the manager.

When Leeds, Sheff United and Sunderland made it clear they were only interested in promotion by losing in the previous rounds it left us with a choice to make.

It's not so much that he was at fault, it was just that it needed an exceptional goalkeeper to have a chance to stop them. We have an exceptional goalkeeper but he wasn't playing.

The problem with the first goal was that he jumped in the air just as Brady hit it, which meant that he had to land before he could start his dive. An exceptional goalkeeper would have been on his toes. As for the other two goals, Trafford is particularly good at making himself big and getting in the way. Hladky isn't.

Hladky can't be faulted for the two open play goals, they were prime opportunities and though you'd hope he may have blocked them you can't expect it. I can't imagine we'd be blaming Trafford for any of those conceded today.

I thought he was ok on the high ball and tried to recycle it quickly, the only issue I had was a couple of stray passes which he overhit.

The players were all good enough, but if you play a system that doesn't suit those players you're asking for trouble.
Midfield was non existent, that was game over.

We've been through this process so many times before, blaming individual players, saying they should never play for the club again blah, blah, blah. It's life get over it.

Hindsight us always easy, I'm sure SP wasn't expecting that team to struggle as much as it did, but I believe he was right to rest players. Top 2 has to be a priority. Leeds are flying, Sheff Utd are having the luck of the Irish. Play offs are always a lottery, if we'd won today, and lost on Tuesday I would have been gutted.

The players were really poor, PNE played to their best, but fundamentally the blame lies at Parker.

It’s our third time playing Preston so he knows how they play and we were at deepdale 2 weeks ago and so he knew how bad the pitch was. Yet he went 4-3-3 again with a lightweight , unfit team, whos attacking players strengths were moving with the ball (the pitch was never conducive to that). Add to the fact they are mid table fodder with nothing else to play for it was always going to be a battle, but he sent us out ready for a pass the parcel contest.

Sometimes when assessing things you have to give credit to the other team as poor as we was preston made it that way.
Absolutely. We’re an easy side to disrupt. If we manage to largely play the game the way we want, then we’re ok. But when the game drifts, there’s no plan b, and the blueprint to beat us, or at least nullify us, is quite straight forward.

It's fair to say heckingbottoms sussed us out but by & large we are still a force to be reckoned with on a league basis. Preston just wanted it more today & we couldn't match their intensity.

As long as they win on Tuesday it's totally forgivable
Got to score goals to win games
We’re not very good at getting off the mark
Today would have been a good time to practice that with the first team

We did ok last time out

Selection was spot on, the performance of those players was the problem and wasn't expected by the manager, or the fans when they saw the teams heat.

Definitely forgiveable but this is the first time this season where I feel a bit angry following a performance.

No excuses at all - we know their style of play, we know it's a frigging cabbage patch (heck we played their 2 weeks ago). Just wrong all round. (Though the players selected should also have shown more).

There won’t be any fringe players asking why they aren’t starting this week, that’s for sure. You’re on the bench for good reason lads.

Frightening glimpse of what might be our first team if we don’t go up and the next fire sale happens. Pires and Sonne wouldn’t be regular starters at Stanley.

On the positive, the weather was lovely and we were back in time for the 2nd half of our local side.

The difference back then was that Stan was trying to juggle and manage the likes of Branch, Roche and Jebsen etc rather than players of the ability we have at the club now.
I get your sentiment Rowls but I'd rather have Graham Branch (underrated) and Lee Roche over Pires and Sonne going off today, that's for damn sure.

Spot on, for me.

I didn’t go the other week but was there today and couldn’t believe the state of their pitch. You see better in league 2. Makes a big difference.

Just a team you feel will never make it to the Premier League.

Yep but we knew this two weeks ago, so it's poor of SP (and I've been very supportive of him this season) to not factor this into his tactics for a one off game on a cabbage patch.

Out of interest who would you have risked on that cabbage patch?
