Michael Oliver

Post by Stonehouse » Sat Mar 01, 2025 1:17 pm

Just seen Michael Oliver go to the screen before sending the Millwall keeper off ,most obvious read I’ve ever seen.

Couldn’t agree more. A boot in the face approximately 6 feet off the ground and Oliver needs VAR. it’s a good job VAR was on. Disgraceful incompetence by Oliver

Hard to see the head connection vs a body check until you see side on and in slow motion. I wouldn’t be calling Oliver out here as the correct decision was made. How about calling the Millwall fans chanting “Let him die” whilst Mateta is having treatment.

He loves himself. Is it too much of a stretch of the imagination that he wanted to become the 1st ref to use the new headset which allows a ref to explain the decision to the crowd?

He's an arrogant t!t who drops game changing bo!!ocks at least once a month every season.

Perhaps he's the reason our reffing standards are so low because he's held up as the gold standard, it's a very low bar that's being set imo !

Was the best referee in England a couple of years ago then he fell in love with himself thinking it was all about him.

If the ref can’t see that’s a straight red then he should be nowhere near a football pitch ,and even if he hadn’t a clear view then I’m sure one the linos must have.

He has to be 100% that he’s right so the screen confirms it for him, exactly as it should do for me.

This is the problem with VAR, refs don't need to make a decision, with no VAR he may well have sent him off straight away

Using last weeks commentator, despite being a leg breaker he got a touch on the ball first, great tackle

Someone suggested the other day that refs should be allowed to opt to go to the monitor without VAR telling them to,which is a brilliant idea but in this case Oliver didn’t intend to send the keeper off which is frightening if he’s one of the best we have .

Fully agree.

Schumacher made no attempt to play the ball. If that was today he may have been charged for assault.

Even though it was a clear red yesterday for dangerous play, the keeper did actually try and play the ball.

Just watching the Brighton defender try to head the ball when Newcastle broke ,he completely missed the ball and took the player out ,Anthony Taylor didn’t even speak to him.

The one yesterday was bad but I only saw it once I’d heard about it and the outcome.

The Schumacher one still makes me shudder.

1982 World Cup semi. Germany won to play Italy in the final and I wasn’t cheering on Germany.

He wasn’t though. He wasn’t allocated a game when it was first used. And it doesn’t allow him, it’s a requirement if a decision is changed via VAR. Wasn’t Hooper the first?

He did. It was introduced when VAR came in for the League Cup and the FA Cup has followed this weekend. It’s only when a decision is reversed.

And thinking about it, I’m sure Attwell was the first with Hooper next.

Maybe, but the rest of my post remains valid ;)
