Like that! Greta cover of a great song. We occasionally cover that at a local jam session. Proper summer banger.

The Animals- ‘house of the rising sun’ must go down as one of the greatest ever covers.
Not the greatest but one of the most accurate covers when compared to the original may be Sleeper’s cover of Atomic by Blondie. Someone told me they wanted the original on the soundtrack of trainspotting but couldn’t afford the blondie version so they got sleeper to cover it. Not sure how this works or whether it’s even true but I had been listening to that soundtrack for years without even noticing it wasn’t blondie!

I’m a big Buddy Holly fan but the Rolling Stones version of Not Fade Away is much better.
A song I always thought was an original was Denis Denis by Blondie but it was first recorded by Randy and the Rainbows. Blondie version is much better.

Re: Cover Versions
Most Burnley supporters will recognise 'Times Like These' by the Foo Fighters as it has been used as intro music on the Turf and other Clarets media for a decade or two.
Strangely, it was covered by ageing country songster Glen Campbell. He had sold over 40 million records in his 78 year career and he nailed this one.
Arguably, his version was better.
Check it out on YT.

Heart - Stairway to Heaven
Disturbed - Sound of Silence
Seether - Careless Whisper
Couple already mentioned, but these are my favorite covers, not necessarily better than the original. However, House of the Rising Sun, is definitely better and all time favorite.

Re: Cover Versions
Good thread this.
For me, there's 2 types of cover versions
1) The band/individual actually records it
2) Live versions which never get actually released
My favourite recorded cover version is The Icicle Works version of 'Going Back' - written by Gerry Goffin & Carole King - I think Dusty Springfield did it first but a few artists have covered it. I came across The Icicle Works version on a compilation cassette of their early singles - the flip side was various B-sides including 'Going Back' and their version of 'Into The Mystic' be Van Morrison which is also very good.
It's on YT - I love the intro when Ian McNabb drawls "1-2-3-4" in his scouse accent!
Regarding live versions my favourites are:
1) I saw The Waterboys do a cover of 'Purple Rain' and it was brilliant - couldn't believe they were doing it but that band could do any song.
2) I saw Elvis Costello do a cover of 'Don't Look Back' by The Temptations in 1980 at The Hope & Anchor in London
3) Elvis Costello again doing a live version of 'One Day I'll Fly Away' by Randy Crawford

I saw her not so long ago playing Lowther Gardens in Lytham with Tommy Emmanuel. She was somewhat overshadowed when playing a duet with TE, but you could see the joy in her face trying to keep up with him.
