O/T Lens Replacement Surgery….

Trying to deflect from today’s debacle….has anyone else had lens replacement surgery? I have worn contact lenses/glasses since I was 9 years old…am now 51.

Yesterday I had lens replacement surgery and today I woke up and feel liberated. They have to still settle down but I can actually see without contacts or lenses….

Highly recommend this if you are even remotely thinking about it…not cheap but I feel it is well worth it!

I had mine done 20+ years ago and I still have better than 20-20 vision at distance. As I'm getting on I have found that recently I have started to need reading glasses.

I would highly recommend it. As your say... It's liberating.

Is this the same as laser eye surgery? I had that 18 years ago and it changed my life, but I find I wear my glasses most of the time now.

No it is different from laser surgery where they 'burn' layers off, they actual implant a lense inside the eye.

My wife had it done last year, her eyes were too bad for laser. The halos are a real issue for her, especially driving at night (keeps being assured they will improve) but overall she is happy and comfortable with money spent.

I was fed up with reading glasses and tv/driving glasses on my head, whilst trying to speak at meetings. Rang Moorfields to ask what could be done.

Too old for laser. Lens replacement.
Took the plunge 3 or 4 years ago. Triple view lens. Brilliant!

On a different note, I have started to lose teeth after an accident where I headbutted a pavement and through bone loss. Now sorted complete replacement via implants. (Can't handle false teeth). Huge cost but a necessity.

I was told that I could have laser but due to my age I would be back wearing glasses in 12 - 18 months so multifocal lens replacement was the better option!! They are taking a day or two to settle down but its kinda weird not having contacts or glasses after 41 years!!

My total was about £10k at Moorfields.
An Ipswich fan was the consultant who performed the op. We were in the prem and they had Pail Cook as manager. Then sacked him, when it was my time for a post op review!

Operation Thursday. Return to work Monday.

I’ve been very fortunate with my eyes. I might not have been blessed with much but I was with superb eyesight.

I have needed reading glasses from age 47 and 18 months ago I had to start wearing distance specs for the first time. It didn’t take me long to get fed up of constantly switching specs so I got some varifocals.

I’m sure I’d have considered other options had I needed them when younger.

They tell you to limit screen time for a week or two, my wife does a lot of time on computer screens every day.

The surgery was done at Allen Day Unit, St Helens Hospital NHS Trust, by Mr. Deepak Chitkara, who had decades of experience in the field. He was recommended by two people in the sector. From memory circa £8k, she paid extra to be under general anesthetic www.viewpointvision.com

Unfortunately that has to wait….12 excruciating weeks lol! But fear not, I have a week booked in Greece for week 13 lol!!!

It's to reduce the glare. I can read quite happily without but choose to use glasses to help.
