Pancake Day / Shrove Tuesday

Post by Rowls » Tue Mar 04, 2025 1:08 pm

Hooray it's Pancake Day and Shrove Tuesday.

Time to eat up all the left over batter you have just sitting there in the cupboard.

Time to give up something for Lent.

What are you having on your pancakes and what are you giving up for Lent?

Just picked up some Dutch pre made pancakes from Tesco to go with some lemon.

I have made to many messes in the kitchen to make my own.

Some leftover curry from last night in my home-made pancakes.

Don't knock it til you've tried it!

You can be an atheist and also a cultural Christian. I'm agnostic, however, I'm most definitely a cultural Christian.

Cultural Christians are those who received Christian values or appreciate Christian culture. They may be non-practicing Christians, non-theists, apatheists, transtheists, deists, pantheists, or atheists.

One savoury, one sweet this year...
Savoury will be homemade cod goujons, chips, peas and tartare sauce.
Sweet will be strawberries, blueberries, Nutella and vanilla ice cream :D

100% agree. I too am a cultural Christian, but agnostic

My point was that being an atheist doesn't mean you can't give something up for lent

Sugar and lemon on some and maybe chocolate spread on one.

I eat far too much chocolate so for Lent I will give up feeling guilty about eating too much chocolate.

Forget the pancakes, a couple of nice banana fritters served with sugar and lemon.

Yes, we celebrate the birth of father christmas. One fictional character (who is much nicer) replaces another, why?

I'll only hint at how tiresome it is to poke fun at Christianity (are you openly derogatory about other relgions?) but I will point out that, whether you believe him to be the son of God or not, there is a lot of historical evidence to show Jesus was a real person.

Copy me in when you're being derogatory online about a non-Christian religion and my opinion of you will increase.

Made mine... disgusting. Put half a teaspoon of Biscoff paste on it. Oh my lord I ain't had nothing that sweet since I did that Ttebokki food count!

The pancakes were "technically correct" as I am an absolute boss in the kitchen however!

Day in the life of my 6 year old...
Banana pancakes in the morning with choc chips/melted marshmallow.

Pancake at lunch - topping unknown.

Afternoon school club one pancake , only one dad

Pancakes for pudding - Nutella, sugar, jam

Let's call it a fat day!

Not only does that mean Pancakes, but in my town it's also one of the biggest sporting events of the year... I give you the St Columb Hurl.
https://www.itv.com/news/westcountry/20 ... sh-hurling

The 1979 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records notes:
The largest pitch of any ball game is that of polo, with 12.4 acres… Twice a year in the Parish of St Columb Major, Cornwall, England, a game called hurling (not to be confused with the Irish game) is played on a "pitch" which consists of the entire Parish, approximately 25 square miles.
