Try finding the one where they sing it after winning at Hampden a few years back! Even better I'd say. It's amazing.

Re: Hibs- Sunshine On Leith
We should just knick it, don't think any other English clubs have done yet. We'd just need to make up some believable back story.

It's a great song actually and The Proclaimers are massive Hibs fans and mention the team in certain of their songs. I guess it was an obvious move to sing Sunshine On Leith on the terraces because of that link.ALHAMBRA 1925 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 6:48 pmAbsolutely love this anthem, hairs on the back of you're neck stuff.

Why would we sing 'Sunshine on Leith'?

Re: Hibs- Sunshine On Leith
One of two or three clubs who have anthems I'm jealous of. The others would be Sheffield United (Annie's song) and Liverpool because You'll Never Walk Alone is a fine anthem.
I wish we had one, but you can't impose these things. It has to happen organically, and for whatever reason it never has.
I understand that once upon a time we were one of various clubs that sang Falling in Love with You, and You'll Never Walk Alone, buy for whatever reasons they petered out.

Re: Hibs- Sunshine On Leith
Don't forget, 'No Nay Never' is ours. We invented it.
It used to sound very imposing sang in full, and at the RIGHT SPEED.
It must have had something going for it, seeing as virtually every club throughout the leagues sing their own version of it.

Re: Hibs- Sunshine On Leith
Does it really have to happen organically. 3 teams use YNWA that I'm aware of, only 1 og them could have sang it originally.claretspice wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 7:36 pmOne of two or three clubs who have anthems I'm jealous of. It just needs a backstory with a tenuous link as an excuse to use it really

Re: Hibs- Sunshine On Leith
I mean it needs fans to adopt it organically, en masse on the terraces. I didn't mean that there has to be a particular connection, just that a club can't foist a song on a fan base and expect to stick and even a fan campaign to promote a particular song is always going to an uphill task.
There are various songs we could adopt because the lyrics could be slightly adapted to associate with Burnley, but if it's a club initiative rather than a fan initiative it won't work. See the attempt to impose 500 miles 20 years or so ago (it was a crap song choice but it wouldn't have worked anyway).
As for No Nay Never - it is ours. The trouble is that at many points in time the lyrics either aren't true or have to be tweaked so they don't make sense.

Re: Hibs- Sunshine On Leith
Probably best not to rule football songs out on the basis they aren’t true.
Re: Hibs- Sunshine On Leith
Yep it's just how to create a link to it really. It needs a story behind it for it to catch people's attention imo. Eventually the club could play it but it needs to be fan led.claretspice wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 8:06 pmI mean it needs fans to adopt it organically, en masse on the terraces. Wonder how WBA ended up with the 23rd Psalm! That really is a weird one.
And Wolves "High Ho Silver Lining" is proper crap imo.

And the traditional Irish tune 'Johnny Todd', used by both Everton and Watford.
Borrowed first, of course, to be used as the theme for 'Z Cars'.

Stirring stuff. Wish we had an anthem like this. Really great to see.
Re: Hibs- Sunshine On Leith
Probably my favourite football anthem. That’s the sort of thing I’d love is to have, if the right song can be found and / or adapted.brunlea99 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 6:16 pmThis is an amazing way to celebrate a Derby win.

As Spice says, it’s something that can’t be forced. Perhaps one day that right song will turn up.
I still think that dirty old town is ripe for being adapted to suit Burnley. It would work well as a terrace song.

Always thought ‘Imagine’ had potential for a football anthem, right speed builds up nicely, don’t know if any club ever used it.
Imagine there’s no Ewood, It’s easy if you try …..
Oh well, back to the day job.

I always thought the Flash Gordon theme tune by Queen would make a good anthem for a small club like Burnley

John Mcginn looks like a little lad on the cup final video . Motherwell doing " twist and shout " is pretty special as well.

Used to sound brilliant in a packed out, swaying Longside.
Re: Hibs- Sunshine On Leith
I was in a cab in Edinburgh a couple of years ago, on the day of the derby... the taxi driver was a Hibs fan and we were chatting.
He mentioned Sunshine on Leith, so we watched it in the cab whilst crawling through traffic - incredible stuff, and something I've watched back a few times since simply for its emotive strength.
An anthem like that would be amazing.

Plus the fact that Easter Road is in Leith. You get a great view of it from Arthur’s Seat , especially in the sunshine !Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 6:53 pmIt's a great song actually and The Proclaimers are massive Hibs fans and mention the team in certain of their songs. Their best song is Don’t Turn Out Like Your Mother. Perhaps we can adopt that one!

I thought that, we already have our own unique song. Trying to reinvent the wheel here.dougcollins wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 7:50 pmDon't forget, 'No Nay Never' is ours. We invented it.

West Brom happened due to an FA Cup game being moved to a Sunday years ago, some who went the game started singing it and it has stuck since then

Re: Hibs- Sunshine On Leith
How weird. A few years back we were in Edinburgh and went to Leith for some lunch. We were rather squiffy by late afternoon when we got a cab back into the city and the 5 of us went into a spontaneous rendition of Sunshine on Leith (it was actually a rather nice spring day!) The cab driver looked at us in his mirror and then immediately joined in! He said you're very lucky I'm a Hibs fan as a Hearts fan would have chucked you out here and charged you double!!Leon_C wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 10:25 pmI was in a cab in Edinburgh a couple of years ago, on the day of the derby... the taxi driver was a Hibs fan and we were chatting.

Re: Hibs- Sunshine On Leith
That's true but Annie's song isn't about a lass from Sheffield and Fields of Athenry wasn't about Liverpool. Their fans neatly amended the lyrics because they scanned. "Burnley's my club, Burnley's my town" obviously scans neatly which I think is why Dirty Old Town gets suggested. There are other songs you could do that with (Sunshine on Leath could be "while I'm worth, my place on the Turf - I'll be there with you", etc.).Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 11:30 amTake your point but the song is originally about the place I attended grammar school in the 1960's and that is Salford.
We did that with No Nay Never which is a good song and it's Burnley's. But it is primarily about another club and as I said above, it's often either not true or needs 'will' changing to 'till' which makes it a nonsense. And it's not especially anthemic.
I certainly wish we had a bit more variation in our repertoire. Even 'in our Lancashire Home' has disappeared recently which I think is a shame. But it has to happen organically on the terraces, and clearly that hasn't happened which tends to suggest there's not much appetite for it.

Re: Hibs- Sunshine On Leith
It is interesting how songs get adopted by fans.Delila at Stoke, GoodNight Irene at Bristol Rovers and a rip off by Millwall of No Nay Never.
The one that always winds me up is the nonsense of playing ZCars theme at Watford?
ZCars was filmed in Kikby near to Walton where Goodison is so a perfectly good reason to play as Everton run out.
